Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 625: Sixteen Years (1)
"I apologize, Mr. Luo, but Nurse Yu is currently occupied with another matter," another nurse expressed regret, accompanied by another officer who shamelessly listened in on the conversation from the doorway. "Would you like me to pass a message to her? Or are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?"
Luo Xuan slowly shook his head. "No, it’s nothing urgent. I just realized that I forgot to thank her after she adjusted my IV needle. I’d appreciate it if you could relay my gratitude."
Their previous conversation had been interrupted at a critical point, so Luo Xuan thought to make up a random excuse to summon Ku Jin here again. But if the man was truly ’occupied’, then he must have left the scene.
Luo Xuan couldn’t help but click his tongue, feeling mildly irritated by Ku Jin and the overall predicament. As though being trapped here was not bad enough, he still had to accommodate that walking time bomb who always acted on his whims.
"Excuse me," Luo Xuan addressed the nurse. "Could you help me adjust the bed a bit? I’d like to sit up."
"Oh, of course!" The nurse promptly assisted him, adjusting the position of the bed and placing a pillow behind his back to make him more comfortable. "How does this feel?"
"Good," Luo Xuan replied faintly. "Could you turn on the TV for me?"
"Uh..." The nurse cast a hesitant glance at the officer, who grunted out a response, "Fifteen minutes."
Luo Xuan would have rolled his eyes if he had the energy to, but no. He would not waste his time on simple quibbles. The way these people guarded him so closely already showcased their incompetence. They feared him, feared what he might do once they lowered their guard down. And he did not mind toying with them a little longer as he recuperated. Either way, it would not be long until he escaped from this place.
Receiving the remote from the nurse, he was drawn by the faint commotion outside. "Is something happening? It sounds quite chaotic."
The officer snapped, "None of your business. Just watch your goddamn TV and don’t even think of trying anything funny."
Luo Xuan nonchalantly shrugged and turned on the TV, switching it to the news channel. While his eyes remained fixated on the screen, his mind was racing a thousand miles per second. Was it Ku Jin’s doing? What kind of trouble was he stirring up now? Let’s hope that he had not blown his cover and put the whole plans in jeopardy.
If only I could get XIU on my side, Luo Xuan lamented with a sigh. If it was him, I could feel more at ease.
Once again, he found his thoughts drifting to the Alpha whom he had become estranged with.
It was often said that people would gradually change as they grew older. However, whether it was that year when he first met He Juan or now, his impression of the man remained unchanged— steadfast, stubborn, and kind.
Their paths first crossed sixteen years ago, when He Juan was a mere seventeen.
Unlike his peers, however, there was no trace of youthful exuberance in his visage. He appeared weary and haggard, just like a battle-worn soldier. Yet at the same time, his eyes exuded undeniable wildness and ferocity akin to a savage beast. It was with that appearance that he dominated the underworld’s illegal boxing ring. Bathed in the stench of blood and sweat, he pummeled his enemies to the ground with the fastest speed possible.
Amidst the morbid yet oddly captivating brutality, Luo Xuan could discern a touch of kindness in him, for he had never killed anyone on the stage despite the amount of money thrown at him.
Foolish, he would say. Such kindness seemed out of place in the underworld, but perhaps it was that exact trait that drew Luo Xuan to him.
This person was clearly brimming with murderous intent – anyone could see it as clear as daylight. So why wouldn’t he kill?
When Luo Xuan finally confronted him about it after observing him for two months straight, the answer he received was, "My anger is reserved for my true enemies. I will not vent it out on others, when the reason they stepped on stage is the same as mine."
What a baffling and unexpected response, especially coming from a seventeen-year-old who should have been enjoying the peak of his youth.
Everyone who ended up in this dark and gritty place had a story to tell. But it was only He Juan’s story that managed to pique his interest – maybe because of how similar they were.
At that moment, Luo Xuan, too, was harboring a hatred and fury so great that he felt like he could take the whole world down with him. He had lost his omega father, the one and only person who wholeheartedly cared for him, to the hunters after years of being on the run. He was aware that it was the fate of all failed products; they were going to be eradicated sooner or later, for they were not supposed to exist in this world.
But Luo Xuan was utterly unreconciled.
It was not easy for the two of them to escape from that hellish facility, it was not easy for them to embrace the freedom laced with anxiety and anticipation, so why... why must they be condemned to death? Was it their fault that they were captured and experimented on?
Getting back to the main point, he and He Juan had a lot of common ground in this matter. They had enemies they wanted to get rid of. They had a goal they were willing to pursue even at the cost of their own lives – a quest for revenge, a thirst for spilled blood. Yet they were currently too powerless to achieve it.
"So why don’t we work together?" Luo Xuan proposed with a mysterious smile as he rested his chin on his palm, staring brazenly as He Juan poured a bottle of mineral water over his head to cleanse away from blood staining his skin.
At the age of seventeen, He Juan had grown to be a tall and broad Alpha. His muscles were firm and well-developed – the kind that wasn’t gained by hours spent in the gym, but by daily bloodshed. Under the dim lights of the locker room, he was like a stunning artwork dominated by a splash of bright crimson, impossible to look away from.
And much like an artwork, he, too, was only suited to be appreciated from a distance, as those daring to touch him would have to bear the consequences.
"Huh?" He Juan titled his head sideways, failing to catch the words for the first time.
"You and me," Luo Xuan pointed at them back and forth. "Let’s join forces. I will help you find your enemies, and you will find mine."
He Juan looked at him as if he had lost his mind, and frankly Luo Xuan felt the same way too. After all, who would choose a brooding teenager as a partner?
Under Luo Xuan’s unrelenting gaze, He Juan carelessly wiped his body with a towel and put on a clean shirt. Only then did he turn to address Luo Xuan. "You are an omega," he stated.
