Chapter 626: Sixteen Years (2)

Ironically enough, that one sentence was enough to explain everything.

In today’s society, omegas occupied the lowest rung of the social ladder. They were notorious for being perceived as weak and emotional creatures whose body constantly yearned for the presence of an Alpha. For that reason, they were often disparaged and viewed as suitable only for a trophy or wallflower.

It was already strange to begin with for an omega to be seen hanging around this area at such a late hour, but the said omega suddenly proposed such a grand and audacious deal out of nowhere? He Juan’s gaze turned wary as he retreated, keeping a considerable distance between them. "You... you can’t be doing this because you have feelings for me or something, right?"

Truly, He Juan couldn’t be blamed for jumping to conclusions, but it did not mean that Luo Xuan wasn’t pissed. He was so infuriated that he couldn’t help but laugh. The audacity of this brat...

"I’m sorry to disappoint you, but no. You’ve gotten it all wrong." Luo Xuan stood up and stalked toward him, his smile sharp and menacing. "Are you proud to be an Alpha? Do you think you’re capable of overpowering everyone? Sure, if that’s the case, let’s fight."

Luo Xuan would never forget the stupefied look on He Juan’s face as he was pushed back by the force of the so-called ’weak and emotional’ omega’s pheromones. Thrill and satisfaction coursed through him at being able to gain an upper hand over He Juan, who had recently been hailed as the Undefeatable King within the rings. Of course, he was aware that the major part of his success stemmed from the surprise attack, but he would only be foolish to challenge a superior Alpha for a direct battle.

"How is it?" he inquired smugly with an arched brow.

"You... how?" He Juan stared at him in sheer disbelief. "How could you be so strong? Are you really an omega?"

"Do you think I’m strong?" Luo Xuan lowered his gaze, lips tugging into an indecipherable smile. "But I consider myself weak, so weak that I couldn’t even protect the most important person to me. You understand that feeling too, don’t you?"

Gloom and fury clouded over He Juan’s features at the reminder, but he showed remarkable self-control and swiftly calmed himself down. Clenching his fists, he asked, "Is that it? Is that the reason why you chose me, of all people?"

"Hmm..." Luo Xuan tapped his chin and pretended to think for a moment. "You could say that it’s one of the main reasons, but most importantly, you’re an Alpha." He smiled at He Juan, who had a stunned expression on his face. "I’m sure you know how much prejudice omegas are facing right now. For that, I need a shield to protect me, and who’s more suitable than a superior Alpha? You’re an Alpha, but you haven’t treated me differently since you discovered my secondary gender, and that’s more than enough reason for me to choose you."

"You don’t want to be trapped in this filthy and forsaken place forever, do you?" Luo Xuan extended a hand to him, confidence and resolution brimming in his light brown eyes. "Join me, and I will help you exact your revenge."

Recruiting He Juan proved to be the second best decision he’d ever made in his life – the first being to run away from that accursed facility with his omega father after it was confirmed that they would be sent to the higher-ups as bed warmers.

People tended to be skeptical and doubtful when they realized that he was the one leading the group, but they swiftly changed their tunes upon seeing a superior Alpha by his side. The young man’s charisma was undeniable, and with him present, Luo Xuan was able to resolve a lot of issues that had previously caused him an immense headache.

They managed to track down the murderers of He Juan’s parents two years later, when He Juan was nineteen.

The day for the Alpha to unleash the full force of the wrath and sorrow that had been simmering within him for years was here at long last.

Luo Xuan was there when the beggars pleaded for mercy under He Juan’s feet, begging for forgiveness. He was there when He Juan tore them apart with brutal force, drenching his entire body in blood from head to toe. He was also there when He Juan took his first kill, only to puke his guts out when the ordeal was over.

"Urrgh... huekk! Ha... hahahaha!"

Kneeling over the badly mutilated corpses of the beggars, He Juan vomited, laughed and cried at the same time. For it marked the day he officially stepped into the darkness and willingly sank himself into the mire of sins – it was a horrendous path with no return.

But Luo Xuan thought that he’d never looked as breathtaking as now.

Not caring about the stains, he crouched down beside He Juan and reached out, gently wrapping his arms around the man’s broad shoulders. "Congratulations, XIU," he said softly with a smile. "You have completed your revenge."

He Juan’s entire body was shaking as he leaned into Luo Xuan’s embrace, drawing in a shuddering breath. It was the first time He Juan had ever displayed such a vulnerability, and Luo Xuan’s heart couldn’t help but skip a beat upon witnessing it.

But of course, He Juan would never allow himself to remain in such a weakened state for long. He swiftly regained his composure and straightened up, grasping Luo Xuan’s hand with his bloodstained ones in a death grip. Despite his chattering teeth and bloodshot eyes, He Juan gazed at him with the same unwavering resolution as when he went on the ring to fight a bloody battle.

"Yours..." he gritted out with much difficulty. "Yours is next. I will help you exact your revenge... I swear on my life!"

It was the deal they had agreed on – to assist each other in seeking revenge. Now that He Juan had fulfilled his part, it was Luo Xuan’s turn.

But what was his revenge, to be exact?

If they were talking about the hunters who had killed his omega father, Luo Xuan had dealt with them and given them a taste of Hell even before meeting He Juan for the first time. Even then, the quiet fury boiling within him was not abated – not in the slightest.

The hardship and abuse they had endured throughout their lives, the constant fear and anxiety on the run, the fleeting glimpse of hope, only to realize in the end that there was only endless despair— it not something that could be compensated by merely taking the hunters’ lives.

Even now when he closed his eyes, Luo Xuan could vividly recall the suffocating warmth of his father’s last embrace, and his feeble voice whispering in pain, "You... You are our hope, A–Xuan. You’re the hope of all omegas. If only... everyone could be as strong as you..."

Years passed since then. The warmth had long since faded, leaving only a bone-chilling coldness that seemed to permeate his very soul.

How could he rid himself of this persistent chill that clung to him so tenaciously?

Shaking off the haunting memories, Luo Xuan offered a smile and patted He Juan’s shoulder. "Of course. However, we’re still too weak now. We need more power if we want to exact my revenge. Get up, let’s return first. You need a shower." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

He Juan was twenty, and Luo Xuan twenty-three when they established the organization that would soon take the whole country by storm – Xuanlong.

In the hall filled with tens of people, He Juan was the first to get to his knees and swear allegiance to Luo Xuan. It was a gesture that totally caught not only Luo Xuan by surprise, but also everyone present. After all, what were the odds that a superior Alpha would willingly kneel for an omega, who should be way beneath him?

"You..." Luo Xuan gazed at him in incredulity, only to receive a raised brow in return. In that instant, he knew that there was no changing He Juan’s mind – the man was hellbent on putting this dramatic show in front of everyone, and the least Luo Xuan could do was to play along. "Fine!" he gritted out with a sharp smile.

Turning to the others, he announced, "One person has already agreed to join Xuanlong. Who’s next? Or... would you rather challenge me for the position of leader?"

That day might be the first time Luo Xuan’s heart fluttered – not because of dread, anxiety or fear.
