Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 637: How Sweet
Mu Yuze’s unspoken words hung heavily in the air. Although he did not express it out loud, he was certain that He Juan could discern the weight of his desires.
Is this it? he pondered.
Last time, Mu Yuze had missed his chances because he was too stunned by He Juan’s words, allowing the man to push him away and shut him out of the house. Now, however, he wouldn’t let it slip through his fingers again. He had steered the conversation in the right direction, and if He Juan intended to broach the subject, it was the right timing.
Alas, unbeknownst to Mu Yuze himself, his clenched fists were shaking ever so slightly. Not only that, because he had just cried, the rims of his eyes were tinged with red. When he spoke up to He Juan like this, it was like seeing a little trembling rabbit trying to stand his ground against a predator that could easily overpower him.
He Juan chuckled with a hint of helplessness and released his hold around the back of Mu Yuze’s neck. In an instant, tension visibly drained from the omega’s body.
Acting as if he had not noticed the changes, He Juan dropped his gaze to Mu Yuze’s lips and gently caressed the little bruise at the corner with the tip of his fingers. "What is this? Has Gege kissed you too hard? Ah..." realization dawned on him. "Is this because of what happened in the archive room?"
Mu Yuze blinked, taken aback by the sudden change of topic. But as soon as his thoughts caught up to him, his face immediately erupted in crimson as he recalled the intimate things the two of them had engaged in the heat of the moment. H–How indecent of him to force himself on He Juan like that! As if it was not mortifying enough, he had brazenly promised that he could make it within five minutes, only to fail in the most spectacular manner!
The same scene must also be playing in He Juan’s mind as a mischievous grin tugged on his lips. "So, a punishment, huh?"
Mu Yuze’s breath seized in his throat as he awaited He Juan’s next words. Would He Juan finally broach the subject of his rut? Mu Yuze knew that his Juan-gege was too kind to truly punish him, and the only consequences he could think of was to become the Alpha’s rut partner.
He braced himself for the request, yet He Juan merely shook his head with a mirthful chuckle, "Let me think about it for a while longer. I will let you off the hook for now, my little naughty rabbit."
With those words, He Juan loosened his embrace and stepped back, leaving Mu Yuze cold and utterly stupefied.
That’s it???
He Juan casually took off his suit jacket, tossing it onto the sofa before undoing his cuffs and rolling up his sleeves. He headed to the kitchen, and Mu Yuze trailed behind him every step along the way like a baby duckling.
"What does the Bureau need me for?" he inquired as he looked around the kitchen, presumably comparing it to the one in his memory.
Still a little disoriented, Mu Yuze answered by autopilot, "They want you to give your statement— both about what happened in the hospital today, and everything about seven years ago."
He Juan gave a nonchalant hum and walked toward the refrigerator. Without looking at Mu Yuze, he asked, "Have you heard about the condition I gave?"
"Yes, Captain Li told me about it. I will be the one to— oh!" His cheeks flushed anew when he saw He Juan grabbing a bottle of milk tea out of the refrigerator, raising an amused brow as if asking ’have your taste preferences changed?’ Mu Yuze hurried to explain himself, "I–I bought it for you. You’ve always liked to drink that, so I made sure to keep it stocked..." his voice petered off into a murmur as he fiddled with his fingers. Seconds passed before a belated realization dawned upon him.
Wait a moment, why would he feel shy and awkward about having He Juan’s favorite beverage ready in his house? Was it not natural, considering they had been living together before the accident in the harbor?!
Stupid Mu Yuze, why are you so scatter-brained and clumsy whenever Juan-gege is involved?!
Mu Yuze was ready to salvage the situation when he sensed a shadow looming over him. He froze when He Juan’s lips brushed gently across his cheek and then—
"Ouch!" Mu Yuze held his throbbing cheek and gazed at He Juan in disbelief. "D–Did you just bite me...?!"
Still with their gazes locked in midair, He Juan took a sip out of his milk tea before licking his lips, enhancing the already glistening surface, making it appear even more moist and red. "How sweet," he commented, almost in a purr.
Mu Yuze almost felt light-headed from how quick his blood was rushing to his head, unable to discern whether He Juan was talking about him or the milk tea. He Juan drank another mouthful before speaking, "It’s good that you’ve heard. Don’t worry too much, I will go tomorrow... after I meet my guest."
"Y–Your guest?" Mu Yuze asked, desperately trying to focus on the topic rather than the sexy bob of He Juan’s throat. He really wanted to bite that— no, snap out of it, Mu Yuze!
"Mn," He Juan affirmed, seemingly having no intention to explain further about the aforementioned guest. But then he added, "I will also meet Zhong Yun. Would you like to come with me?"
The mention of his high school buddy, now reduced to a drug addict, managed to snap Mu Yuze out of his intoxicating bubble. It was like having a bucket of cold water being poured over his head. Seriously, Mu Yuze? Your friend is wronged out there, and here you are, blissfully spending your time with Juan-gege and almost forgetting him!
Fortunately, Mu Yuze had gotten some work done prior to He Juan’s arrival, so he quickly dismissed the guilt creeping into his heart. "I think I will pass," he shook his head. "I still have no idea who the traitor in the police is, and coming into contact with Zhong Yun right now doesn’t seem like a good idea. Come with me," he grasped the hem of He Juan’s sleeve and pulled the man out of the kitchen.
Albeit confused, He Juan still followed along and allowed himself to be led into a familiar room – the study. It was the place where he once used to spend most of his time.
Mu Yuze unhesitatingly pushed open the door, and He Juan stilled once he took in the interior. The bookshelves, mahogany table, swivel chair, and even the potted plant on the corner— they were all positioned exactly as he remembered, save for the new addition of a transparent board filled with scribbles and notes.
But how? He remembered clearing out every item from this room!
That left only one explanation – after he left, Mu Yuze had painstakingly purchased each piece of the same furniture and reconstructed the study to how it originally was. An acute pain struck He Juan right in on the chest at the realization, almost robbing him of breath.
Mu Yuze, unaware of his emotional turmoil, strode to the table and picked up a document. "I’ve compiled profiles of the officers who were on duty on the day Zhong Yun was drugged. Take this to him and ask him to identify— Gege?" He paused when he noticed He Juan standing still on the doorway with an indecipherable look on his face. "What’s wrong?"
