Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 638: Venting Anger
Mu Yuze was not a crime investigator for nothing. Taking in He Juan’s unusual reaction, he quickly put two and two together. "Oh..." he breathed, realization dawning upon him.
Too excited to bring his investigation results to He Juan, he had momentarily forgotten about the study, and how he had obsessively made it so that nothing had changed in this room, except for the fact that he could never collect as many books as He Juan did.
He dropped his gaze to the floor, feeling strangely like a child who had been caught doing something bad. His heart continued to sink with each passing second without He Juan’s reaction. In the end, he couldn’t endure the silence anymore and decided to bite the bullet, "A–Are you angry? I’m sorry... for doing this on my own. You got rid of everything, so you must not want to see them again. It’s just..." his lips began to tremble as he recalled every moment he had spent staring at the vacant room in a daze. His voice gained a nasal hint, "The room looks so empty and—"
His words abruptly halted when He Juan crossed the room in a few large strides and engulfed him in a smothering embrace, face tucked into the crook of his neck. The sudden movement caused Mu Yuze to drop the document in his hand, causing it to land on the ground with a resounding thud.
"Mu Yuze... Mu Yuze..." He Juan whispered the name again and again, his voice choked with emotion. "Sorry... I’m so sorry. I thought... I should do this. I must, if I wanted to completely disappear from your life. I must not leave anything behind that would remind you of me..." He hastily added when he noticed that Mu Yuze was shaking, "But I know now what a stupid decision it was. I’m sorry for everything I made you go through. I’m so sorry, Xiao Ze..." his voice carried unspeakable pain, yet he knew that nothing he said could ever compensate Mu Yuze for all the sadness and anguish he had caused.
And oh, what a devastating feeling it was.
It felt like a heavy lump was lodged on his throat, blocking his airways and rendering even breathing an impossible task. His hold tightened around the omega’s body with a force enough to crush bones, a gesture laden with raw torment and desperation. But if it hurt, then Mu Yuze said nothing about that.
Instead, he gingerly wrapped his arms behind He Juan’s back, his fists bunching on the fabric of the Alpha’s shirt.
He Juan allowed his eyelids to flutter shut as he took in ragged gasps. Just like that, Mu Yuze held him close until he regained his composure.
"Silly Juan-gege..." he whispered, and his thick nasal voice told He Juan that he must be crying again. "As long as you’re not angry with me, everything is fine."
He Juan ground his jaws as another wave of pain and distress seared through his heart. The more he interacted with Mu Yuze, the more he realized what kind of ordeal he had put the omega through. It must be so hard for him to bear with the sorrow, the grief, the loneliness... when he did not even understand why He Juan had to leave in the first place.
"How could I be angry with you?" He Juan responded with a bitter snort. His anger was directed more at himself, and most importantly, those who had forced him away from his omega. Taking a deep inhale, He Juan straightened up and a pained smile hung on his lips as he wiped the damp corner of Mu Yuze’s eyes. "Look at me, I made you cry again..."
Mu Yuze clasped the hand on his face and nuzzled into it. "It would be a lie if I said that I never blame you, but Gege... does it really matter now that we’re together?"
He Juan blinked, taken aback.
Oh look at how mature his Xiao Ze had become. He had become so dependable now; he could even comfort He Juan when it was supposed to be the other way around. Feeling amused and distressed in equal measure, He Juan held his gaze firmly, "You’re right. It might not matter anymore, but please... blame me. I want you to blame me, Mu Yuze. Get angry at me, vent your grievance on me, you can even punch me if you want. Feel free to throw as many tantrums as you want because I can take it. But don’t..." he drew in a shaky breath, his voice hoarse. "Don’t forgive me too easily." Because I don’t deserve it, he added inwardly.
Their gazes locked for a while, until Mu Yuze let out an amused huff and remarked, "Gege, you’re weird."
It was unbelievable how He Juan’s glum mood instantly brightened at the sight of that tiny precious smile. "Oh?" he raised an inquisitive brow.
"Other people would scramble to ask for forgiveness if they did something wrong, but only you... you asked me not to forgive you." He cupped He Juan’s face with both of his hands, catching the man a little off guard. Then before He Juan could react, Mu Yuze pinched his cheeks.
"There," Mu Yuze exclaimed with a satisfied harrumph.
He Juan blinked, question in his eyes. What?
"What?" He asked aloud.
"Didn’t you tell me to vent my anger on you?" Mu Yuze asked innocuously. "I did. Just now."
He Juan was dumbstruck. "You mean... pinching my cheek?"
"What’s with that look on your face? Not enough?" Raising a challenging brow, Mu Yuze did it again, and he even kneaded the flesh as he pleased. He Juan must have looked silly now with his face all mushed up, but he honestly couldn’t care less about it if it meant he could see Mu Yuze’s smile widening. "How is it? Are you ready to beg for my forgiveness?"
Finally realizing what the omega was up to, soft laughter bubbled out of He Juan’s throat, unbidden. Goodness, how could his Xiao Ze be so... endearing? So lovely and precious? How He Juan wished to swallow his whole person into his stomach!
"Mercy," he played along and raised both hands in surrender. "Please have mercy on me, Officer Mu!"
"Mercy granted," Mu Yuze finally stopped abusing He Juan’s cheeks, though his hands lingered there, this time simply cradling the Alpha’s face. His lips curved into a soft smile as he murmured, "I forgive you, Gege. That’s why, don’t make that kind of face anymore, okay? It’s not only you who doesn’t like to see the other person sad."
He Juan’s heart practically melted into a puddle of rainbow goo at his omega’s sweet words. "Alright," he nuzzled into Mu Yuze’s touch, his silver eyes curving into crescents. "If that’s what my little rabbit wants."
After basking in each other’s presence for a while, they returned to the matter at hand. Mu Yuze handed the list of officers to He Juan with the intention to ask Zhong Yun to identify the mole. "What a brilliant idea!" He Juan did not hold back with his praises. "This is not the kind of information I can obtain with my current network, so your assistance helps a lot. With this, we can zero in on the rats and get rid of them quickly. Good job, Officer Mu!"
Mu Yuze resisted the urge to preen as he replied demurely, "I was just doing my part..."
They discussed their future course of action for a while before He Juan excused himself, saying that he needed to discuss a few things with his men. He did not forget to give Mu Yuze a goodnight kiss before leaving the study.
It wasn’t until Mu Yuze was lying on his bed, all alone, that he recalled how He Juan had never mentioned anything about his rut.
Had Juan-gege forgotten about it? No, that’s impossible. He’d had so many chances to bring it up, but he never did. That left only one possibility—
He Juan had decided to spend his rut alone.
