Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 640: Cause Of Death
Ye Qiu nodded in agreement. "That’s the conclusion they have reached after five years of failure. When Luo Xuan’s incident happened, they lost all contact. Mr. Walker must have thought that he was dead, given how he switched his attention to other mutated Omegas. But recently, my people detected different movements from him."
He Juan seamlessly connected the dots, "They must have established another contact. Now that Mr. Walker knows Luo Xuan is still alive, he will want him back. However, it won’t be so easy, considering Luo Xuan is now closely monitored by the police."
Ye Qiu shot him a look of approval. "You’re right. At this rate, there can only be one outcome— Luo Xuan will try to break free, and his best chance is to go abroad and lay low."
"We can’t let it happen," He Juan stated grimly. "This research must be stopped once and for all. X Serum is a drug that’s not supposed to exist in this world."
Ye Hu, who had been silently observing the talk, grabbed a glass of juice from the table and chugged it down before speaking in frustration, "I just don’t get it. Why is he so obsessed with creating the X serum? Does he genuinely believe that all omegas in the world are as power-hungry as he is? If I had a choice, I wouldn’t have wanted to become a mutated Alpha!"
"Hush," Ye Gu chided him softly. "What do you really know about him? He’s also a product of an experiment, just like us. But unlike us, he managed to survive until now with his own power and tenacity. Who knows what kind of ordeal he has gone through?"
"It still doesn’t justify his actions! What? Just because he’s suffered, does he think everyone else has to suffer too?!"
Ye Qiu rapped her knuckles on the table, halting the argument in an instant. The two young Alphas sealed their mouths shut, cowering up in the face of Ye Qiu’s pressuring pheromones.
The corner of He Juan’s eye twitched as he reached for the glass, taking a small sip in an attempt to suppress his discomfort. It wasn’t easy for him to be in the same room with three hot-blooded and virile Alphas when he was entering his sensitive period. Even the smell of the pheromones made him sick on the stomach. But fortunately, He Juan’s self-control was remarkable and he managed to adjust his facial expression not to reveal anything.
He cleared his throat before speaking, "What you two said is correct. We don’t know what he has gone through, but it doesn’t mean we can justify his actions. I’m pretty sure that all he wants is to create a world where omegas no longer have to be exploited and used, but..." he sighed. "He just had to choose the hardest method."
"What a dreamer," Ye Qiu commented with a derisive snort. "I admit that it’s one hell of a grand dream, but that’s it. Until the end of the time, people will continue to exploit the weak— and it isn’t limited to omegas alone. Even Alphas and Betas suffer at every corner of the world. He simply sympathized more with omegas because he’s one."
Turning to He Juan, she asked, "So what are your plans, XIU? If we want to stop the production of X serum, there’s one surefire method – kill Luo Xuan and burn his body so no one can take his blood. But..." she carefully observed He Juan’s expression. "If you wanted his death, you would have acted earlier instead of waiting until now, would you?"
He Juan shook his head, a self-deprecating smile playing on his lips. "You’ve thought too highly of me. XIU is nothing but a name – a name that should have been forgotten years ago. Look at me now. Without that nickname, I am nothing but a penniless and powerless man. Do you think I could breach through the police’s heavy surveillance and deal with Luo Xuan in my current state?"
"Let me return those words back to you – it’s you who thought too lowly of yourself," Ye Qiu said in retaliation, catching him off guard. "XIU’s glorious days might already be in the past, but those seeds you planted live on and have become towering trees. Perhaps you failed to realize it because you’re too used to being the shield, but Ge... there are more people who are willing to protect you than you think. As long as you say the word, they will become your sword."
Even though her words did not single out any specific person, her earnest and straightforward gaze conveyed that she was one of the aforementioned ’people’.
Not only her and her brothers, but there were also Prime Minister Liang Yuanjun and Han Shan who were always ready to offer him assistance...
He Juan felt a lump forming in his throat. Growing up, he had never thought to rely on anyone else to solve his problems. He would always try to tackle them all on his own, and the realization that there were people willing to go to such lengths for him... it was a little hard to accept. Difficult, but not unpleasant nonetheless.
"That’s very unfair, Ye Qiu..." he rubbed his forehead helplessly. "What do you expect me to do now that you’ve called me Ge? Truth to be told, I am very reluctant to implicate you in my affairs..."
Ye Qiu shot down his argument in a heartbeat. "Well, if we’re talking about boundaries, then aren’t you supposed to be the outsider here? Luo Xuan is a mutated omega, and he is our trouble to take care of. You’re just a normal and innocent person who was being dragged here against your will."
"Alright, I lost." Chuckling, He Juan put up both hands in a gesture of surrender. "You’ve become so good with your words. I can’t possibly win against you."
A satisfied look painted Ye Qiu’s features. "Now we’re finally talking. If you want to get rid of Luo Xuan..." she cast a glance to the two Alphas beside her, who promptly volunteered,
"We can take care of it."
"Yeah, isn’t it only one omega? Ye Gu can distract the guards and I will deal with him real quick." Ye Hu made a slicing gesture across his throat. "Easy peasy lemon squeezy!"
He Juan shook his head in mild amusement. "I appreciate the gesture, but..." a wistful look entered his eyes. "Do you know? For me, death is the easiest punishment there is in the world. Luo Xuan has a hand in my little brother’s death, and I have no intention of letting him off lightly."
Without any preamble, Ye Qiu swiftly changed her tune to accommodate him, "We will handle Mr. Walker then. It will be a little challenging, given the eyes on him. But give us some time and we can get it done. He will die of a heart attack, and nobody will ever trace it back to us. Even if the officers were suspicious of his death, there is nothing they could do to make up for the lack of evidence."
He Juan raised an intrigued brow. "A heart attack? Would you be using drugs? It should be... untraceable..." his brows furrowed as a sense of déjà vu washed over him.
A heart attack caused by an unknown reason? It sounded familiar. Where had he heard it before...
"Ge?" Ye Qiu called him worriedly. "What is it?"
He Juan’s frown deepened as he tried to dig deep into his memory. He signaled to Ye Qiu for a moment of silence and closed his eyes to concentrate. It should be something he heard fairly recently, hence the reason why it was sticking to his mind until now. And the only time when He Juan discussed someone’s death with another person was...
"Oh," he exclaimed softly as a piece of memory surged to the forefront of his mind.
No wonder it had sounded extremely familiar. He had just been reviewing the cases with Mu Yuze a few days ago, and one of the topics they talked about was the mystery of Qin Zhen’s death that was still unsolved until now. That man had died of a heart attack, despite there being no history of heart conditions in his medical record!
He opened his eyes and addressed Ye Qiu urgently, "The method you’re talking about... is it a drug? Can you tell me more about it?"
