Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 648: Stay Like This
Mu Yuze heart skipped a beat. His lips parted, "Why..."
Why does it look like you’re about to cry?
Alas, he had no chance to voice that question because He Juan abruptly staggered as though an invisible force had impaled him, clutching onto his head with a pained groan.
"Gege!" Mu Yuze hastily rushed forward to support him before he could crash to the ground. He led He Juan to sit on the bed before going down on his knees, peering up at the man anxiously. "A–Are you okay? Is your head hurting?! Should we go to the hospital now?!"
"I’m okay..." He Juan offered him a strained smile. Even in this state, he was still trying to reassure Mu Yuze. "I think the blood rushed to my head because I’m too excited. Did he mention what he called me for?"
"No, I think he just wanted to talk to you. But it’s so late, so I told him to call again in the morning. More importantly, are you sure you’re okay?" Mu Yuze gave him a skeptical look, to which He Juan responded with a helpless chuckle.
He finally admitted, "...I forgot to take my medicine today."
"Where do you keep it?"
He Juan pointed at the nightstand. Mu Yuze swiftly retrieved the medicine and poured him a glass of water before handing them over. It wasn’t until he saw He Juan swallow the pills that the tight string around his heart loosened. Even then, he still felt extremely distressed at how pale He Juan’s complexion was. Extending a hand, he gently wiped the sweat away from He Juan’s forehead and asked softly, "Are you feeling better?"
"Hmm-mm," He Juan let out a non-committal hum. Wordlessly, he grasped Mu Yuze’s hand and tugged him closer.
He Juan had not exerted any strength at all, but Mu Yuze still went along until he was standing between the Alpha’s legs. His breath snagged in his throat when He Juan leaned closer and buried his face on his stomach in an obvious display of dependency.
In that split second, he was reminded how he had not taken a shower yet after a long day at work, but the sight of He Juan in such a vulnerable state was simply heartbreaking. How was Mu Yuze supposed to leave when He Juan was clinging onto him so tightly like this?
In the end, he merely released a drawn-out sigh and carded his fingers through He Juan’s hair, massaging his temples and hoping that it would ease his discomfort even for a little.
Mu Yuze sensed it when tension ebbed away from He Juan’s body, and his inner omega purred in delight at the notion of being able to offer comfort to his Alpha. Whoever had made He Juan react like this couldn’t have been ordinary. Mu Yuze told himself that he should tread carefully lest he trigger He Juan’s headaches again.
Allowing the delicate silence to linger between them, it wasn’t until Mu Yuze was certain that He Juan had completely calmed down that he inquired tentatively, "Can you tell me... who’s on the phone?"
He Juan’s arms tightened around him. Just when Mu Yuze was certain that he wouldn’t obtain his answers tonight, his world abruptly tilted on its axis, and the next thing he knew he was laying on the bed while staring at the ceiling. "Wha—!" A cry of surprise escaped him when He Juan draped over him like an overly heated and heavy blanket, almost punching all the air out of his lungs.
"G–Gege...?"
He Juan spoke from where his head was buried in Mu Yuze’s chest, his voice muffled. "Let’s... stay like this a little longer. Can we?"
How could Mu Yuze ever say no to his Gege’s request, especially when it was spoken with such a vulnerable and quiet tone? Shifting his position, he arranged himself more comfortably so that he was lying on his side, with He Juan still held close to his chest. He proceeded to stroke He Juan’s hair because he noticed that the man had enjoyed it when he dried his hair last time.
"Of course, Gege," he murmured softly, his heart so full of love for this man to the point of bursting.
He Juan relaxed in his embrace and snuggled closer as if wishing to erase even the tiniest bit of distance between them. "The person just now... you’ve met him before. But perhaps you’ve forgotten. After all, it has been so many years."
"We’ve met before?" Mu Yuze furrowed his brows, delving into the depths of his memory. He could almost recall everything he had seen or read once, especially when it involved He Juan. But as the man stated earlier, it had been so many years, so the faces that popped up in Mu Yuze’s mind had also become blurry. As far as he could recall, there were only a handful of people who could be considered their mutual acquaintances, and they were—
"Sirius Morningstar." He Juan’s reply managed to unearth the dusty memories of their past.
"Ah," Mu Yuze exclaimed softly as numerous images flashed in his mind. "The brothers who once spent Christmas Eve with us. They also took care of me for a while when you were away. I remember now, that loud and chaotic child who always clung to you. And his brother..."
"Marius," He Juan piped in with a chuckle.
"That’s right, Marius. I remember enjoying his cooking. He’s a great chef compared to you, Gege. Your food sucks." Mu Yuze’s blunt words earned him soft laughter from the Alpha. He could feel himself relaxing— not only because Juan-gege’s condition was visibly improving, but also because the young man was someone he knew rather than a wild man who popped out of nowhere, even though technically they had lost contact for years.
"Did you recently come into contact with them again?" Mu Yuze asked carefully, aware that there was something more than what meets the eye. Otherwise He Juan’s reaction would not be so severe just from that one phone call.
"Actually, no. This is the first time Sirius has attempted to reach out to me, and Marius... he’s gone. He got into an accident seven years ago and has been declared missing since then."
Mu Yuze inhaled sharply, his eyes widening in surprise as he had not seen this coming at all. Seven years ago? Was it not also the same year when He Juan left? Could Marius’ incident have something to do with He Juan’s memory loss?
In Mu Yuze’s recollections, He Juan and Marius seemed extremely close. He couldn’t fathom He Juan’s feelings right now when he had to talk about his friend. Distressed, he tried to catch a glimpse of He Juan’s face, but the man tightened his hold around him.
"Don’t," he said.
Hearing the sharp edge in his tone, Mu Yuze gave up trying to analyze He Juan’s mood. Instead, he brought the Alpha closer to him, wishing that his presence could at least bring him some comfort.
After some time, He Juan continued, "I know, you must be curious about everything that happened seven years ago. I will start telling you everything tomorrow, but for tonight..." he let out a shaky exhale, "Just stay with me like this, okay?"
Did Mu Yuze have any other choice? He was only a weak mortal, after all. Faced with this rare display of vulnerability, he could only give a hum and hug He Juan tighter. "I’m so sorry for your loss, Gege," he expressed sincerely, despite being seven years late.
Even then, He Juan still held him tighter as if drawing all the comfort he could find from his body.
