Chapter 661: Mini Meltdown

Following the address given by He Juan, Mu Yuze drove into an upscale community complex half an hour later, where luxurious residences and villas adorned the landscape.

The security measures were nothing but comprehensive, with controlled access points and CCTV surveillance on every corner of the street. Thanks to his occupational hazard, Mu Yuze studied the security system along the way before coming to a solid conclusion that— the houses here must have cost a fortune.

Didn’t He Juan mention that this was Chen Youzhi’s place? As far as he could recall, the Beta had worked in the nursing home for years, and he lived in a modest studio apartment near his workplace.

So where did this villa come from? Did he secretly have another great source of income?

It was not like Mu Yuze doubted the man or something; this was but a deeply ingrained habit developed over years of working as a crime investigator. As soon as he encountered something peculiar, his brain immediately worked overdrive to analyze it from all angles, trying to come up with a reasonable speculation.

However, all of those doubts and theories bounced out of his mind at once when he caught sight of a familiar figure standing outside the villa which was supposed to be his destination.

Mu Yuze’s heart almost leaped out of his throat, his eyes widening in shock.

That was... He Juan?! What was he doing out here in such cold weather?!

The car’s headlights informed the Alpha of Mu Yuze’s arrival. Shielding the glare with a hand, he flashed a bright smile and jogged toward the shotgun seat as the car came to a stop. Mu Yuze hurriedly unlocked the door for him, and as soon as He Juan slipped in, he unleashed a barrage of questions, a furrow forming on his brow,

"How long have you been standing outside? Why didn’t you just wait in the house? I could’ve called you when I arrived!"

Realizing that his tone was too harsh, Mu Yuze snapped back to his senses, and only then did he realize that the tip of He Juan’s nose was red. In an instant, his heart ached as if it was cut by a sharp glass, his tone softening as if he was speaking to a small injured animal. "Are you okay? Should I turn up the heater? How’s your headache?"

Gingerly, he reached out a hand toward He Juan’s face, hovering a few inches away from the skin.

Despite having confirmed their feelings for each other and slept together (innocently) a few times, somehow Mu Yuze still felt a little nervous touching the Alpha whenever he pleased. He doubted he could ever get used to this— the electric sensation that coursed through his skin from their point of contact, the loud and erratic rhythm of his heartbeat, and the wild flutter in his stomach. And as always, He Juan was able to sense the underlying uneasiness within him and dispel it before it could even take root.

He firmly grasped Mu Yuze’s hand and brought it to his face, nuzzling into it. His lips tugged into a soft and helpless smile, "Why have I never realized that my little bunny is such a nag?"

Mu Yuze felt his whole arm getting weak at that affectionate gesture from He Juan, but the chilly sensation of He Juan’s skin felt so good that he couldn’t bring himself to pull away. Instead, he used his thumb to gently stroke the dark shadows beneath the Alpha’s eye. "If you stop doing things that make me worried, I won’t nag at you," he harrumphed softly.

He Juan chuckled in response, and oh how Mu Yuze wished to capture that delightful sound and tuck it into his pocket so he could take it out and listen to it whenever he wanted.

"Seriously?" He Juan arched his perfect brow and pressed his lips tenderly on Mu Yuze’s palm, throwing the poor omega’s heart into disarray. His beautiful silver eyes were fixed on Mu Yuze, filled with a meaningful smile. "I went out of my way to receive compensation for my gift sooner, and all I received in the end is nagging?"

Breath caught in his throat, Mu Yuze recalled the words he had spoken on the phone— I’m going to give you a kiss. You know, as thanks for the gift.

So, the reason why He Juan stood outside the house on this freezing night was because of... this? A kiss from Mu Yuze?

Their gazes collided in midair, and tension seemed to explode within the enclosed space. Mu Yuze’s heart was pounding so loudly that he was certain He Juan must have heard it. He stared into the Alpha’s eyes for a beat longer before his gaze dropped to the soft and thin lips.

Then as if bewitched by a spell, he extended both arms and wrapped them around He Juan’s neck, pulling him close.

Their lips met in a kiss so soft and tender that it hurt. Careful, tentative and exploring, it was like they were having their first kiss all over again. With He Juan, each kiss they shared might as well feel like the first.

A tiny, embarrassing keen escaped Mu Yuze’s throat when He Juan cradled his jaw and caressed his burning earlobe, pinching it lightly. The kiss was not even deep, devoid of any tongue or saliva, yet Mu Yuze still felt intoxicated the same as he relished in the sensation of the Alpha’s lips moving over his again and again. Somehow, this exchange felt so sensual and intimate in the way Mu Yuze couldn’t describe into words.

"Gege... Gege..." he cried out softly, his fists bunching on He Juan’s shirt as he trembled under the sheer weight of emotions he could never fully express to the man. Not even close.

"Sssh, come here." Feeling a gentle yet powerful tug on his arm, Mu Yuze went along and rose from his seat, crossing the control box until he was straddling the Alpha.

His mind was so muddled that he couldn’t pinpoint when He Juan had unbuckled his seat belt. He just... literally melted on He Juan like a soft, boneless creature, cheek leaning against the Alpha’s shoulder, trying to shrink himself as small as possible to fit into He Juan’s arms.

He Juan stroked his back and scented him as he attempted to regain his bearings. And oh, Mu Yuze almost cried out loud when the familiar scent of rosewood and pheromones filled his car again. He was akin to a parched man who had finally been granted a jug of cool and refreshing water, or a child who regained the most precious treasure he once thought he had lost. So in bliss that he could die right there and then.

In and out, Mu Yuze took a shuddering breath before letting out a shaky exhale. And all the while, He Juan held him without uttering a word as he recovered from his mini meltdown, simply comforting him with his warmth and presence.

"It’s been a long day, huh?" He murmured, his chest vibrating with each word he spoke.

Mu Yuze’s eyelids fluttered shut as he let out a soft ’mn’.

Still caressing his back, He Juan inquired gently, "Do you want to go home and rest instead? We can push the agenda back to tomorrow."

Mu Yuze really liked how He Juan used ’we’ to refer to them. Burying a smile into the Alpha’s shoulder, he returned with another question, "How about you? Are you tired?"

"Not at all," He Juan said, which was definitely a lie. "You’ve been wanting to meet Zhong Yun, haven’t you?"

Once again, Mu Yuze felt his eyes burning at the Alpha’s considerate gesture. Every time He Juan set aside his own needs to fulfill his wishes, a bittersweet ache settled in his heart. Yet at the same time he also felt so blissful for receiving such tender affection from the Alpha of his dreams. The two conflicted feelings clashed within him, causing him to snuggle deeper into He Juan’s arms like a desperate animal seeking warmth.

As if sensing his turmoil, He Juan’s hold tightened impossibly tight around him as if he was the glue preventing Mu Yuze from breaking apart. And in a sense, he was.

What kind of glorious deed had he done in his past life to be rewarded with such a gentle and perfect mate like He Juan? He was so kind, yet so silly at the same time for thinking that Mu Yuze was nervous about meeting Zhong Yun, when the reality couldn’t be further than that...

"If you can’t bear it, we will go home, okay?" He Juan’s concerned voice echoed above him, and Mu Yuze nodded, a faint smile twitching on the corner of his lips.

"Okay." He reluctantly pulled himself away from He Juan, not unlike how one would pull off a sticky gum. Taking a deep breath, Mu Yuze erased any traces of vulnerability from his face and declared, "Okay, let’s go in."
