CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 108: Fooling Our Eyes
Cassandra did not understand what was happening.
"Duke Salvador?" Princess Cassandra said in a serious tone. Her eyes widened in question as she blinked her eyes a few times.
Duke Salvador looked down at the lady in his arms. "Yes. you will know when we reach there."
Princess Cassandra nodded her head. She looked forward to trying to avoid the situation. Soon they entered a dark alley. Cassandra had never seen such a place in the palace. And what made her eyes wide was the fact that no guards were protecting it.
Cassandra swallowed as she looked up at the Duke who was walking carefully through the darkness. Only his red eyes glowed like rubies making the fifth Princess want to touch it.
’What am I thinking.’
’I cannot touch the Duke so carelessly.’
Cassandra told herself again and again. There was a time for everything and she knew that this was not it.
"What place is this?" Cassandra asked as she raised her eyebrows. "I have never seen such a place in the palace before."
Although Princess Cassandra’s voice was soft, it revolved in the tunnel. Cassandra was shocked as she closed her mouth in a hurry. Her eyes looked everywhere in a panicked state.
Duke Salvador laughed. "Do not worry. There is no one here that will listen to us."
Aiden’s steps were full of force. There was a little seriousness in his tone as he explained. "These were built a long time ago. They are basically the pathways built from each Dukedom to the Palace’s center."
"Have you noticed that all the four dukedoms are situated in four different directions?" Aiden’s tone was low as if telling a child.
"Hmm .." Princess Cassandra nodded her head. She waited for the Duke to continue.
"Well the palace has four tunnels and this one is towards Salvador’s mansion." Duke Salvador smiled. "No one will know if someone from Salvador has entered the palace or not."
Cassandra’s eyes widened. She looked around carefully as a question popped up in her mind. "It is so clear," Cassandra murmured. "Is every tunnel so clear?"
"Well, I cannot tell for sure. None of the dukes know where the tunnels for the other families are. I am not even sure if they use it or not." Aiden confessed. "But we do use it."
"Why didn’t you ask me to use it when you called me out to meet you in your mansion? I would not have been in this mess then." Cassandra whispered under her breath. Her mouth was pouting as she blamed the Duke for her misfortune.
Even though Cassandra thought that her voice was low it was not. Aiden could hear everything loud and clear. "I did not trust you then. I didn’t know that we might grow this close." Duke Salvador’s hold on the fifth Princess tightened. "Trust me, if I had known it back then, I would not have done something so stupid."
Aiden said as he continued walking.
Now that Cassandra said it, It made Aiden realize that it was his mistake.
’Everything would have been normal if I didn’t force Cassandra to come and visit me in my Mansion.’
’Achard Bentham would not have been able to find any loophole and manipulate Cassandra into getting engaged.’
’And nothing following it must have followed.’
’It was my mistake.’
Aiden’s gaze sharpened as he continued blaming himself. But soon he realized that it was all in the past. "We cannot change something that has already happened, but we can change the future for sure."
Aiden said as he looked at the fifth Princess who nodded her head in agreement. A smile played on both of their faces as Aiden continued. "We have reached."
Cassandra’s eyes widened. She looked up to realize that the duke’s words were not wrong, they were at the Salvador Mansion.
"This .." Cassandra tried to say but her body trembled.
Aiden did not wait for anyone as he walked towards the door. As soon as they entered there were people lined up in a row as they bowed to the Duke. Aiden did not pay them any attention but he could see that this affected the fifth Princess.
Cassandra’s eyes shook as she swallowed hard. She tried to push the Duke away as she struggled to get down, but she was held strongly with an equal force.
"Do not do that." Aiden’s tone was soft as he looked down at the fifth princess.
Cassandra felt embarrassed as her face turned pink. She became conscious as everyone was looking at her. Cassandra had no other choice than to hide her face in Aiden’s chest.
Feeling a soft touch, Duke Salvador smiled. His sharp eyes turned relaxed.
’This is a good feeling.’
’I wish this to be ours forever.’
’Maybe I have to work hard but I will make it a reality.’
Aiden’s face was full of determination. There was a small glow in his eyes.
"Master .." The butler said as they reached the room. Aiden nodded his head as the doors opened.
Aiden did not pay any attention to the people inside until he sat the fifth Princess on a chair comfortably.
Aiden sat near Princess Cassandra as he commanded Blazh. "Bring him in."
Blazh’s sight jumped from the fifth Princess to the Duke’s face as he nodded. "Yes."
A man was called inside as he looked at the Duke before showing his respect.
"So he is the one?" Duke Salvador asked as he saw Blazh nod.
"Then why are we wasting our time. If Ed needs to go to the Vivere Kingdom we need an Aiden present there to see him off." Duke Salvador’s words were full of sarcasm as his lips curled up.
Blazh nodded as he gave the man a drink. Cassandra was confused in all of this but soon as the man changed his face Cassandra realized what the Duke said about meeting Duke Salvador.
"He .." Cassandra looked at Aiden in shock, but the man simply smiled.
"Does the man look like me?" Aiden asked as he touched Cassandra’s face with care.
The fifth princess nodded her head as she looked between both the dukes.
"Let me explain." Aiden smiled. "The man is my butler’s son. We needed someone to act as the Duke in my absence so who better than the one I trust."
Cassandra nodded her head. She could tell that the man had a similar build to the duke but his face was very different before the transformation.
’But how did it transform?’
This was the question bugging Cassandra’s mind which made Aiden laugh.
"My butterfly. You should ask the questions that are bugging you." Aiden’s eyes sharpened. "Confidence is the key here and you need to learn to fake it until it is embedded in your skin naturally."
Cassandra looked down as she played with her hands. She knew that what Duke Salvador was saying was true. Cassandra looked up as she smiled. "Then how is he looking like you now?"
"That is because of his power." Aiden smiled as his heart filled with warmth seeing the fifth princess following his words. "His family have a special ability to give illusions"
"Is this an illusion?" Cassandra murmured. "It looks so real."
"Well yes, It is an illusion." Aiden nodded his head. "But they need a stimulator. And the liquid that Blazh gave him was one."
"But how does this work?" Cassandra was confused and full of questions.
Aiden chuckled as he touched the fifth Princess’s hair with love. "You are a fast learner. You started asking so many questions now."
Cassandra’s face turned pink. Her gaze shook a little as she looked down. "You told me to ask .."
"I did." Aiden nodded his head. "So let me explain the situation."
"Blazh is a water mage but with a special power, you know it." Aiden blinked as he continued. "So the liquid that he gazed at was medicinal. But not regular medicine. It had my essence in it. A part of my aura."
Cassandra nodded her head as she listened further.
"When he drinks it, the aura starts to flow in the body and then it acts like a stimulus and he can use his illusion. His face did not change in reality but when someone looks at him he feels like looking at Duke Salvador."
Cassandra understood what the Duke was saying so far. "That means it is fooling our eyes."
Aiden laughed at the fifth Princess’s conclusion. "Yes, exactly. It is fooling our eyes."
"But is it forever?" Cassandra looked up at Aiden in question.
"No." Duke Salvador shook his head. The effect starts to decrease over time but he will know it once that happens. They can roughly estimate when the illusion is going to break."
"Won’t that be a problem?" Cassandra wondered. Her tone was full of worry. She feared that her selfishness would cause trouble to the Duke.
"It won’t be. After all, Blazh has the essence of my aura. He will be provided with it till the time we return."
