CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 109: Some Things Never Change
Soon the day of their departure arrived.
Duke Salvador looked at the man before turning towards the Emperor. The atmosphere was a little stiff but he did not care. "I feel like it’s time for them to leave."
Duke Salvador smiled as he turned towards Ed. "You have to protect the fifth princess at all costs. She is the royal blood as well as your responsibility now. You are a black eagle so you need to behave like one."
Ed nodded his head as he walked behind the carriage with his horse where Princess Cassandra and Princess Teimei sat. He rode the horse as he looked at the man who looked like him with sharp eyes before he nodded his head.
The message was clear. ’You need to handle everything here till I am back.’
The man understood as he nodded his head in response. It was not the only instructions given to him. In case of any problem if the illusion does not work or the liquid containing his aura finishes, they are supposed to tell the people that the Duke had gone to his land away from the capital due to an urgent matter.
Aiden looked at the carriage as his eyes softened. He still remembered Cassandra asking him why he could not tell this in the first place but he knew he could not do so. People will speculate. The first princess and the Emperor will be suspicious. Prince Cedric will try to follow him and if the Vivere Kingdom’s people knew that he was Duke Salvador, they would never allow him to enter their land. But Aiden could not tell all such things to the fifth Princess. He could only smile and hope that she focuses on her problems for now.
Aiden’s eyes looked at the Duke who was standing with the other Dukes. Aiden had selected the man because he trusted him. He knew that their family had been serving Salvador for generations. They would never betray him thus he did not think twice before allowing his butler’s son to act like him.
Princess Cassandra was a little worried as she looked between Ed and the Duke from time to time. Her eyes narrowed before she sat inside with a long face.
"What is troubling you so much, Princess Cassandra?" Princess Teimei asked as she rested her chin on her hand. Princess Cassandra shook her head. She refused to answer the question trustfully instead she said "I have never left the land. I’m not used to traveling. I’m just worried about how I will hold up."
Princess Teimei laughed as a smile played on her face. "The Princess does not have to worry about it. We will make the journey as smooth as possible and your stay as happening as ever. I can swear on my land that you will not miss this Empire ever."
Princess Teimei’s eyes glitter as she said those words to Princess Cassandra whose eyes were dim.
Princess Cassandra did not know why they were so interested in her but she was sure that they needed something from her. Princess Cassandra simply nodded her head as she looked out towards everyone.
Duke Benton was talking to Lord Bentham. Although she could not figure out what they were saying Princess Cassandra could not even hear their thoughts as if they were speaking without thinking a lot.
Cassandra’s eyes shifted towards the Emperor who was having the conversation with Prince Carl, while Prince Cedric stood next to them looking at his sister Princess Valeria with a narrowed gaze.
[I will be the next Emperor.]
[Even if I have to kill you. I will do it.]
Prince Cedric’s thoughts were clouded with such thoughts while Princess Valeria’s were completely opposite.
[Why are they not leaving?]
[They should be out now.]
[The guard looks like a black eagle but I feel like I have seen him somewhere.]
[Is he close to Duke Salvador?]
Princess Cassandra swallowed. She knew that soon there would be a fight in the Empire between the two siblings over the throne. It was not difficult to know this. Almost everyone in the Empire knew it.
Cassandra’s eyes moved towards the Empress who was there standing by her husband’s side, looking straight at her in the eyes.
[I wish you never come back.]
[Now only a few Princesses and Princes need to be eliminated.]
[How long are they taking to move?]
[They should have left a long time ago.]
Princess Cassandra swallowed as she moved her eyes back to Duke Salvador who was standing with the other Duke, smiling and talking like the real Aiden Salvador.
’He is good at acting.’
’Ed was right. The man knows him well so he can impersonate him perfectly.’
Princess Cassandra still could not comprehend the idea that the man was not the original one. He looked so much like him and spoke so similarly. But then she remember Ed telling her that it was all an illusion. An illusion to fool everyone in the Elvira Empire.
Princess Cassandra still remembers asking Aiden Salvador how the man’s voice could be the same but Aiden’s reply was constant. It was an illusion, an illusion of his voice. The man was speaking in his own natural tone but in the ears of the listener, they would hear the exact voice of Duke Salvador.
’There are so many things in the world that I do not know.’
’So many things to uncover.’
’I always thought I was the only one with a unique ability so I was desperate to survive thinking that if my ability was exposed I may not be able to walk on the land freely and yet there are people like me at Salvador’s.’
’Aiden Salvador has been hiding people with unique abilities as if sheltering them.’
’One of them can form illusions.’
’Captain of the black eagle who is a water mage has a unique ability to heal.’
’If I am not mistaken, Duke Salvador is the only Duke whose army possesses people from all the four elements.’
’Who knows how many people the Duke is hiding.’
Princess Cassandra closed her eyes. There was no use to think this now. She took a deep breath as she hoped to leave the Empire soon.
’When will we leave.’
"I hope I could read your minds too." Princess Teimei said in a soft tone. Her eyes sharpened as she smiled. "Who knows what weird things you are thinking?"
"Why would you think I have weird thoughts?" Princess Cassandra opened her eyes as she tilted her head.
"You make a face. I cannot describe it but there is something." Princess Teimei blinked.
"Is it?" Princess Cassandra smiled but did not reply. She ignored the Vivere Kingdom’s Princess as she closed her eyes.
’I do not need your help.’
’The only person who will help me is the man who took the risk to protect me.’
’He is leaving his Mansion and land only to protect me.’
’I will only tell Ed about my thoughts.’
’Is the only one I trust.’
Princess Teimei smiled as she looked out and she saw the guard from Duke Salvador’s side she had seen in the fifth Princess’s room.
Princess Teimei’s eyes narrowed as looked at her brother. Prince Carl nodded as he talked with the Emperor before moving towards the carriage.
"We will be leaving soon." Princess Teimei said as she saw Princess Cassandra open her eyes.
"Amy .." Princess Cassandra murmured as she looked back but princess Teimei laughed.
"Don’t worry Princess. your lady in waiting is traveling smoothly with mine. Nothing will happen to her." Princess Teimei’s words were sharp as she looked at the fifth Princess. "You care a lot for a servant."
Princess Cassandra’s eyes sharpened. "She is my family and my friend." Cassandra’s tone was dull but full of hate. It was as if she would really kill at any time. "I hope that Princess Teimei thinks before she speaks."
Princess Teimei’s smile slipped but her gaze turned soft.
[You always care for others first.]
[Some things never change.]
Soon everyone and everything was settled as the carriage started to move. Princess Cassandra looked back at the palace one last time before she closed her eyes.
’I am leaving everything behind now.’
Princess Cassandra did not know when she fell asleep but soon the carriage stopped. Cassandra opened her eyes as she looked outside in confusion.
The carriage was surrounded by darkness. There was an unfamiliar force that was engulfing it whole.
"We have reached." Princess Teimei smiled as she looked outside. "We are here."
Princess Cassandra did not understand how much time has passed but she just knew that it was not long.
’But to reach the Vivere Kingdom from the Capital of Elvira Empire took at least a week.’
’Then how?’
Princess Cassandra looked at Princess Teimei who smiled as if nothing had happened. He continued looking outside.
As Cassandra followed princess Teimei’s gaze, a smile formed on her face. The Vivere Kingdom’s pace stood in front of her eyes, glowing with lights in the darkness. Cassandra’s mind was filled with thoughts.
’Who knows what the Vivere Kingdom will bring for me.’
’I hope I can get the answers about my powers and my mother.’
