CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 168: Death Frequency
The girls arrived at the outer premise of the mansion. Becky took out her phone and planned to order a cab for the three of them.
"What are you doing?" Selina said.
"What? I’m not walking." Becky said.
Selina took out her bike key and pressed a button. The motorcycle released a high-pitched ringing noise.
"Woah!" Becky approached the motorbike. "How much is this? This must be a few thousand credits."
"I think it was 9,000 or something like that." Selina said.
"You are so rich." Becky said.
"Don’t tell me that you aren’t. You have finished much more bounties than me." Selina said.
"Yeah. But I didn’t remove the NCEs myself! My job until recently was only to investigate and confirm the existence of NCE.
Actually. Most Iron Rank Hunters are like that. We aren’t like you, start killing NCEs since Iron."
Selina tilted her head and thought about it. Since the beginning, she got quite a lot of rewards from the bounties. But Becky was right. Most of the Iron Bounties only required the Investigator to confirm the existence of the NCE, not remove it.
Investigation jobs were at most a few hundred credits. Removal objectives, however, like what Mater did, were thousands and above.
Everything contributed to her quick rise in the Rankings.
Selina hugged the cat tightly, "All thanks to this little fella."
"Who are you calling little?" Mater growled.
"Well then I guess I will take a cab with Loretta then." Becky said.
"Sorry. But I also have a car." Loretta took out a car key and pressed.
A red car responded. It was a high-quality convertible with a shiny red coat of paint.
"Holy shit. You are even richer than Selina." Becky widened her eyes.
Loretta’s lips curved up slightly, "It’s all because of the ability of a Seer."
"What exactly can a Seer do anyway?" Selina said.
"Well. You’ve seen it already. I can establish a mental connection, which the Institute called Mental Link, and read the memory and thoughts of NCEs and people."
"Isn’t that just telepathy?" Becky said.
"It’s a little different. Telepathy is a very broad term. Mental Link is a Telepath Skill. It is Telepathy. But there are other Telepath Skills.
Mind Reading is a very popular one. But you do not need a connection to do so. You can hear other people’s thoughts just like how you hear normal voices. But it can’t read memory like Mental Link."
"So you read other people’s minds and they gave you money?" Becky said.
Loretta shook her head, "Nope. I get my money via Death Frequency.
That skill allows me to speak with the dead."
Mater was listening in to everything. Warlocks also had a very similar Rank-2 Spell.
"You are much more useful than I thought," The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
Loretta and Becky jerked back in surprise. They already heard Mater speak before but every time he did, they couldn’t help but react.
"You finally talk again!" Loretta said.
"We might need your help in the future. The ability to speak with the dead is very useful." The black cat continued.
"You can ask me for help any time, little kitty! I will give Selina my number." Loretta reached her hand out to pet Mater.
The black cat glanced at her but he allowed her to pet his head gently in the end.
"Did you forget that this cat molested you before?" Becky said.
Loretta froze in place. She stared at the smug black cat.
"Why did you do that anyway?" Loretta said.
"Señorita... Please. I am a man of culture. I can’t help but admire beautiful women like you." The black cat purred. Its deep voice was like sugar.
"This damn cat! Do you even have any dignity left?" Becky said.
She covered her mouth and turned away when Mater stared at her. She almost forgot that the cat was very dangerous. "I’m sorry. Forget what I just said."
Loretta covered her cheeks in embarrassment and turned away.
’Why does he sound so ’sexy’?’ Loretta thought. Her cheeks blush a little.
’I can’t believe this woman!’ Becky rolled her eyes to the back of her head. Then she turned to Selina.
That goth girl was smiling from ear to ear. She was deeply amused.
’I can’t believe this woman also! Are you all stupid or something?’ Becky covered her face.
The girls left the premises. Selina rode her motorcycle while Becky went with Loretta. They found a restaurant nearby to have a meal together.
They watched the horizon in the window as the sun slowly rose up from the sky. The night had passed and with it, the horrors inside the Lambkins’ Mansion.
Unbeknownst to Selina, her name was slowly spreading everywhere in the supernatural world. For some reason, they kept the nickname Little Mitch gave her. She was known as Big Sister, a very powerful Bronze Rank Psychic that could be compared to a Silver Rank.
If Selina knew this, she would definitely strangle Mitch. She wasn’t fat at all but now everyone called her Big.
During the meal, Selina and Becky found out that Loretta was a millionaire. She was quite popular amongst the non-Psychics.
People came to her and asked to speak with their loved ones that passed away. She gained a fortune from those works.
However, as financially successful as she was, Loretta wasn’t that good on the psychic side. She had been stuck in Menace-level for many years now.
As for Becky. The short girl was truly a self-made woman. She was already a somewhat famous detective before becoming a psychic. Many of her works led her to the supernatural world. And soon, she was exposed to the NCEs.
From that day on, Becky chased to be the best Paranormal Investigator there was. She gained quite a lot of followers online and her skill developed nicely. She wasn’t as rich as Loretta but her skills were better.
"What do you think about their offers, Selina?" Becky said.
"Those two Silver Hunters from before?" Selina said. "I don’t intend to join them. They aren’t even at Hazard level."
Loretta giggled, "You said like you are a Hazard Psychic already."
"I’m not. But Mater is as strong if not stronger than one." Selina sipped the coffee mug in her hand.
"Hmmm." Becky stared at the cat. Mater was cleaning his fur and did not care about a thing in the world.
"What?" The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
"Nothing..."
"You know..." Selina smiled, "Maybe we should make an organization of our own."
