’Oh? The Dark Grimoire is clearer now. It is easy for me to search everything.’ The black cat stroked its whiskers in deep thought.
’Nether Shot is really lacking fire power now. I need to upgrade it into its Rank-2 variation.
Chaos Eyes is also a must. It is essential for every Warlock. And I can’t let someone like Assassin sneak up again.
Page of Imprisonment is so good. I want to upgrade it also. But I don’t have the knowledge to do that yet. I’d need Selina to learn how to craft Emotional Gemstones first. With them, I’ll be able to upgrade Page of Imprisonment.
Force Dome is the greatest defensive spell. I need to upgrade it into its Rank-2 variation also.
So that’s three Rank-2 spells already. Upgraded Nether Shot, upgraded Chaos Eyes, upgraded Force Dome. I’ll leave an empty page for Page of Imprisonment if needed.
I only have one slot left. I still don’t have a movement spell. Let’s inscribe it this time.’
The Dark Grimoire flipped to Nether Shot.
The cat extended its claw. It began to add more details onto the existing painting of Nether Shot.
The original painting of the Nether Shot was a purple sphere that was constantly spinning. Mater extended the sphere into a long beam. The beam spun around its core length, creating an air of vortex wherever it went.
Colors flooded to the page as Nether Shot transformed into Nether Beam. The painting plucked itself out of the Rank-1 Spells Section and moved to Rank-2 Spells Section.
[Nether Beam]
[Rank]: 2
[Effect]: Can fire up to 5 energy beams consecutively. The beams are made of energy that originated from the hell of darkness, capable of destroying the living, the dead, and the spirit.
[Chaos Cost]: 100 Points
Originally, Nether Beam had 2 beams and cost 8,000 Chaos Points to use.
Rank-2 Spells had no cool-down anymore. But they cost Chaos to use repeatedly.
For a human in the same level as Mater, they’d have 400,000 Chaos Points. They could use Nether Beam 50 times repeatedly before their Chaos Well ran dry and shot 100 beams.
With the new cost and beams Mater had, he could...
The black cat raised his paws trying to do math in his head.
’400 beams? 600 beams? I’ll fucking hate math!’
The black cat grabbed its head and rolled on the ground in despair.
Selina sweated profusely, she tried to comfort him. "Are you okay, Mr Mater? Do you need my help?"
"Stay away, woman. I can deal with this!" Mater jumped up and raised his paw in a smug way.
’I don’t need to know the exact number. I just know there are a lot of beams. I feel like I’m becoming that machine gun thingy I saw on the internet.’
Mater was right... in certain aspects. A human could shoot 100 beams if they used all of their Chaos Well. Mater could shoot 1000 beams in total, ten times the original number.
But he’s too bad at math to figure that out.
The black cat ignored its obvious shortcomings and continued to upgrade Chaos Eyes.
The painting of this spell was a pair of red eyes with cross-shaped pupils.
Mater’s claws reached out. He used more Chaos to adjust the painting, especially the pupils of the eyes. It transformed into an eight-winged star with a narrow body.
Red and black flooded to the painting as it plucked itself out of the Rank-1 Section and lay down on the Rank-2 Spells Section.
[Octagram Chaos Eyes]
[Rank]: 2
[Effect]: You are able to see the physical and hidden form of Chaos and any traces it left behind. You can see through invisibility and illusion. You can focus your vision to penetrate into a Psycho Force.
[Cost]: None
"No cost? What does this even mean?" The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
As it finished, Mater squirmed. He lowered his head and bit his eyes close tightly.
"Mater?!" Selina rushed over but the black cat raised its paw to stop her.
"I’m fine!"
Blood leaked out of the crevice between Mater’s eyelids. It flowed non-stop for a minute. The black cat felt like his eyes were dousing in fire and acid.
He groaned quietly.
’Damn it! You can’t beat me, you stupid spell!’ Mater screamed inside.
At last, it stopped. When Mater opened his eyes again, they were no longer golden nor did they have vertical slits.
Instead, his eyes were completely black with two shining red octagrams serving as the irises.
’This spell... It has built itself within me. That is why I need no cost to use it.’
Mater lifted his small cat head up and looked at Selina. He wanted to try and experiment what penetrating a Psycho Force actually meant.
Selina shrunk back. Her body sweated involuntarily just because of Mater’s intention.
"What are you planning to do, Mater? I’m scared!"
Selina was truly afraid. This snapped Mater out of this idea.
"You feel threatened?" Mater meowed.
Selina nodded.
"Welp. You’re probably right. This ability might be dangerous. I was planning to use it on you."
"You wanted to hurt me?" Selina’s eyes welled up in tears.
"No!" The black cat’s deep voice echoed. It jumped onto her shoulder and caressed her cheek gently, "I didn’t know. You have to believe me, Señorita... I will never hurt you."
Selina puffed her cheeks up, "I believe you! But I’m still angry."
"Buying something for you later?"
"I want a house!"
"Damn, gold digger! Deal!"
