CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 83: What Does It Matter to Me if You Live or Die?
"Lianne, if your family looks down on us, then just say so. You knew perfectly well that our Reina has liked Kenneth since they were children. Why didn’t you even tell us he got married? You made our Reina waste all these years pining for a married man, refusing to look at anyone else. And now that we know, Reina couldn’t handle the shock and she..."
"Mr. West, that’s not it. They didn’t invite any friends or family to their wedding..."
Kenneth rushed forward, signaling for Lianne Vance to stop explaining.
"West, I call you ’Uncle’ only out of respect for your seniority and your friendship with my father, so I will hold my tongue. But what gives you the right to accuse my mother? Why should I have to report my personal life to you? Am I supposed to announce my every move to the world? I’ve rejected Reina West countless times. She’s the one who refused to give up and kept harassing me. On top of that, she severely injured my wife before she was fired. I refrained from retaliating out of consideration for our families’ past. And now is the time you choose to come and blame us? If anyone has a right to be pointing fingers, it’s me, for your failure to raise her properly."
Martin West’s face contorted with anger. Lianne Vance pulled on Kenneth Yates from behind, signaling him to stop. A life was on the line; any grudges could be settled later. ’Even if Kenneth doesn’t pursue this, I, Lianne Vance, will confront them head-on. How dare they hurt my precious daughter-in-law! And they didn’t even know. Kenneth must have deliberately kept it from us so we wouldn’t worry.’
A moment later, a doctor emerged from the operating room. Martin West and his wife rushed forward. "How’s Reina?" Martin West asked anxiously.
The doctor removed his mask, his expression grave. "Thankfully, she was brought in just in time. We’ve pumped her stomach, so she’s out of immediate danger. However, she’s fallen into a coma. When she wakes up, it is crucial that you don’t agitate her. The patient’s condition is highly unstable."
"Okay, okay, we understand. When do you think she’ll wake up?"
"She will definitely wake up tonight." After the doctor left, Kenneth Yates stood off to the side, radiating a hostile aura.
"Kenneth, go and see her. After all, she attempted suicide because of you."
Kenneth Yates stood frozen in place for a long while before finally deciding to go see Reina West. ’There are some things I need to make crystal clear to her.’
When Kenneth Yates entered the hospital room, Reina West was lying on the bed like a doll, her face completely drained of color.
She opened her eyes, her parched lips struggling to form words. "Kenneth... I knew you’d come see me." A faint smile touched her pale face.
"I’m here to make things clear. Don’t use these kinds of tricks to get me to come here ever again. This is the one and only time. Don’t assume I’ll always be swayed by our families’ history; any goodwill between us was obliterated the moment you harmed Summer Lancaster. What happens to you has nothing to do with me, and what happens to your family has even less to do with me. Stop humiliating yourself, or I will make your end a miserable one." With that, Kenneth Yates strode out of the room, leaving Reina West with a look of utter disbelief, gasping for breath. A moment later, doctors and nurses came rushing into her room.
That was Kenneth Yates for you. He was never one to show mercy—viciousness was his trademark. As for long-standing family ties? If he no longer wanted them, they could be severed at any time.
"Kenneth, how is she...?"
"She’s awake. Let’s go."
"But I just saw the doctor go back into her room."
"It’s nothing. From now on, we don’t have to concern ourselves with them. Are you really going to pity the person who harmed your daughter-in-law?"
