Chapter 915: Chapter 915: Injured and Unconscious

As a child, Xaviera Evans was pushed into the water by Mag Evans and nearly drowned. For several years afterward, she was terrified of water. It was only after countless attempts to challenge herself that she slowly learned how to swim. However, before that, there was no way she would go near water, let alone dive in the sea. Yet, such memories were deeply engraved in her mind and could not be wiped away.

“Xaviera.” Caleb Mamet called her softly, then took the yellowed notebook from her hand. He bent down to hold the pained Xaviera in his arms. He gently placed her on the bed and lightly touched her forehead. “Close your eyes and calm down for a while.”

Xaviera could not open her eyes, nor hear any sounds, deeply immersed in her own world. In front of her was a dimly lit beach, surrounded by cold, deep blue seawater. The strong smell of blood and saltwater filled her nostrils. Her hands and feet seemed to be tied, unable to struggle free. She could only sink into the sea helplessly, gradually unable to breathe.

“Xaviera?”

The slightly cold lips fell on her eyes, full of tenderness and trembling. Caleb gently stroked her cheek, afraid of hurting her. His deep and hoarse voice whispered in her ear, but it still couldn’t wake her from her nightmare.

“I will always be with you, don’t be afraid.”

This time, Xaviera fell into a deep slumber for a long time. By the time she woke up, the sky outside had already turned dark. Her temples ached, and she tried to recall the events before she passed out. She vaguely remembered picking up a book and seeing something before she mysteriously fell asleep and had a terrible dream.

Xaviera’s head hurt as if there was a hole in her forehead, missing something. She glanced around, confirming she was still in the office. So, she slept from morning until night? When did she start sleeping so much? She used to work tirelessly on design drafts for two days and two nights without sleep, still full of energy. But recently, it seemed that she could never get enough sleep.

“Awake?”

Caleb’s voice came from behind, and Xaviera suddenly turned, only to find that he had been sitting on the sofa the whole time. The light was dim, and his eyes were hollow like a statue.

Caleb was already accustomed to darkness. Though blind, he could quickly locate the switch, and the room lit up. His eyes gradually returned to their light brown color.

Xaviera stared for a few seconds. Hadn’t she already detoxified Caleb? He should be able to see now, but in the dark, his eyes still looked hollow. Xaviera suddenly became anxious, “Caleb, you can’t see?”

Caleb paused for a moment and replied softly, “Of course I can. Otherwise, why would I be able to find the switch? I could see, just not very clearly.”

“How are you feeling? Is your body still uncomfortable?” Caleb did not give her the chance to ask further, and quickly changed the subject. He approached Xaviera and rubbed her forehead with his hand, smiling, “Mrs. Mamet is really silly.”

Xaviera let out a cry of pain as a dull ache spread across her forehead. There was a mirror opposite her, and she quickly looked at it, only to see her forehead was red and swollen.

What happened? Could it be that she passed out because her head hit the bookshelf?

“How is it? Does your head still hurt?”

Both looked towards the sound, and Eric Salt walked in with a medical kit. Seeing Xaviera awake, he laughed and said, “I thought you’d be unconscious for a while longer. It’s impressive that you could knock yourself out, Miss Evans!”

Xaviera’s face turned red with embarrassment. So she really just fainted from hitting her head? How awkward was that?

Eric handed the medical kit to Caleb, “You can treat her.”

Xaviera looked at him, surprised, and asked, “Why don’t you treat me? You’re the doctor!”

“Treat you? Your jealous husband has to agree first! I just brought the medicine, so I’ll be leaving. Pay attention to your wound for the next few days, and it’ll heal. It’s just a small injury, hardly worth calling me in the middle of the night. Besides, Mrs. Mamet can treat wounds herself, so there’s no need for me to come.”

Caleb gave him a cold glance, “You’ve delivered the medicine. You can go now.”

Eric laughed helplessly and was about to leave when Xaviera called out to him, “Wait, Dr. Salt, do you know Warner Riverside?”

“I do.” Eric nodded, and Xaviera gestured for Eric to come closer. She whispered in his ear, “Tell him about Caleb’s eyes…”
