DC: A New Beginning-Chapter 51: Chaos Begins
"Barry, no!"
Rachel heard Superman’s shout, and the ground shook around her.
Superman in the sky was fast, and Rachel recognized him.
He was always praised on TV as the hero who could save any disaster in the last minute.
Clearly, the world had a limited understanding of what a true speedster was capable of.
A handful of bright, shiny blood froze in the air, and gold and red lightning exploded.
After the gold and red lightning erupted, everything began moving again, and Rachel saw only Viktor’s figure flying backward through the air.
"Noo."
Rachel stumbled forward toward him with her mind completely blank, but the surging emotion about to tear her magic apart felt like a flood about to break through a dam.
Rachel’s forehead had red cracks that began to glow as the dark magic from the Trigon was on the verge of collapsing.
However, a voice suddenly popped into Rachel’s head just in time. The voice was strange with an electric hum buzzing nearby.
"He’s fine."
Sure enough, Viktor slowly pushed himself up.
Viktor’s chest was covered in blood, but the attack meant for his heart had missed at the last second.
It had only torn his clothes and left a cut across his chest.
"Rachel!"
Viktor quickly grabbed her as she threw herself toward him. He spotted the extra eyes that were almost opening up on her forehead, and spoke quickly.
"Control your emotions for now. If you let Him out now, this planet won’t survive."
Once Rachel began to close her eyes and try to calm her emotions, Viktor finally had time to glance at the scene.
Just as the Flash, who had been ready to pierce his heart, was about to strike, something knocked him out of the way.
Superman landed heavily on the ground and stood between Viktor and the Flash, and another blurry figure that they had never seen before stood beside Superman.
It was a blur of yellow, shaking sounds, and crackling red lightning around him.
The injured Flash gritted his teeth and muttered the identity of the one who intervened.
"Eobard Thawne! You never know when to die."
Superman looked at the top-level alert figure from the Justice League database with a mix of surprise and suspicion.
The Reverse Flash.
The moment anyone encountered this particular individual, the immediate and primary objective was to capture and stop him as soon as possible.
However, this guy had managed to save Viktor in a moment when even Superman couldn’t reach him.
Reverse-Flash ignored Superman completely. He faced the Flash, but no one could see his expression because he was constantly vibrating at extreme speed.
"I never know when to die?"
Reverse Flash seemed somewhat surprised.
Then, as if quickly understood something, he smiled mockingly, but he didn’t respond to the Flash’s words.
"I was wondering why the Speed Force field was being disturbed by something."
Viktor and Superman furrowed their brows at the same time.
Reverse Flash’s way of speaking was completely different from the Flash they were familiar with.
He didn’t speak fast, but his words were so unclear that some parts of his sentences had to be understood through context to fully understand him.
Reverse Flash didn’t seem to care about his unclear accent, making a gesture as if propping his chin.
"Since last night, I felt a change in the Speed Force. And considering you’re the source of everything, I ran back from the future to this moment and waited outside your little girlfriend’s house. You didn’t come out until this morning, and then suddenly dashed out the door. I followed you for the whole morning: the Hall of Justice, the Watchtower, the Batcave. You searched through a lot of information."
"Then you even ran all over Metropolis looking for this... person."
Reverse Flash made a final statement.
"You’re not the Flash from this world. You’re not even from this timeline. There’s no record of you in the future."
He spread his arms, clearly disappointed.
"I thought you were going to do something big enough to change history, but turns out you’re not him. Still, I have to thank you. When you said I never know when to die, you meant that the Reverse-Flash in your world created time remnants, right?"
"Well, now, I’ve learned how to do it too."
Superman, who had been completely lost this whole time, finally started understanding.
Superman’s emotions were all over the place. After a long and exhausting Justice League meeting, Kara suddenly woke up.
The two of them caught up, talked about Krypton with sadness, hugged and cried, and the intense joy was swept away by the earlier tension in the League.
Before he even had the chance to explain her coming powers under Earth’s yellow sun, Superman heard something alarming.
Viktor’s rapidly increasing heartbeat echoes through the center of Metropolis.
Viktor suddenly decided to use all of his power in the middle of the city, and Superman had no choice but to abandon Kara for a while.
Superman had barely taken off when he saw the Flash about to stab Viktor through the heart.
He knew he wouldn’t have been fast enough to stop it in time.
The sudden change from happiness to horror had almost overwhelmed even him.
Fortunately, Superman didn’t notice the girl behind Viktor with her forehead flashing with Trigon’s malicious eyes blinking on her forehead.
Otherwise, it would have made things even worse.
The citizens of Metropolis had no idea that their lives had almost been destroyed several times in just a few minutes.
The injured Flash stared coldly at Viktor.
There was nothing he could do anymore with Reverse Flash and Superman standing in front of him.
Viktor noticed the situation.
After confirming that Rachel’s condition was stabilizing, Viktor stood up calmly, patting the healing wound on his chest.
Superman looked at this Flash from another world and spoke carefully.
"Why did you try to kill Viktor? The Flash I know would never do this."
The Flash briefly averted his intense gaze from Viktor.
"This man showed up near both Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and then this morning’s incident happened. He’s dangerous. He operates the same way Reverse-Flash does, playing a key role in many seemingly insignificant details."
Reverse-Flash, who had just been mentioned, simply shrugged.
The Flash’s face under his broken helmet suddenly became twisted as if his brain was enduring some intense pain.
He grimaced his teeth, his eyes started to twitch uncontrollably, and saliva mixed with blood dripped from the corners of his mouth.
"Like a... butterfly... plucking certain strings of fate... and then the world falls apart from endless chain reactions. He’s dangerous... very dangerous. He shouldn’t even exist in this world. He’s a mistake that was created out of nowhere. It must be fixed. Must be fixed!"
Superman quickly stepped forward and placed a hand on the Flash’s shoulder.
"Wait! What happened with the Justice League has nothing to do with him, I’m sure of that. And you’re not in your right state. Let’s go somewhere and talk—"
"No."
Viktor’s voice was calm and cold as he cut him off.
"I’m sorry, Superman. There’s nothing to discuss. He just tried to take my life. That is a line I will never allow anyone to cross."
Superman’s pupils shrank, and he truly felt overwhelmed.
Reverse Flash smirked as if watching a movie he’d been eagerly waiting for.
"This is something I can’t allow under any circumstances. If anything happens that threatens my life, I will cross the line and principles I follow."
"You can’t hold this Flash forever. The moment Thawne leaves, this Flash could try to kill me again at any time."
The Flash under Superman’s hand began twitching like a zombie, but Superman still turned back to confirm Viktor’s condition.
That was when he saw it.
A faint yellow ring was already on Viktor’s finger.
"I need to ensure my safety first."
The last eight seconds of energy in the ring were released at once.
A signal shot outward.
The sky above Metropolis split open, and a massive rift from the antimatter universe tore across the clouds.
"Finally—"
"I’ve been waiting for this day, the day you put this ring on again."
