Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 348: Can We Just Be Together?
Brooke conceded and allowed Hannah pack their things. Whilst she watched her, sizing up the bags if they were portable enough, a thought popped up in her head.
"Please resign from working under Cassie." She said all of a sudden.
Hannah snapped her head, "Why?"
"If me and Thane are going into hiding, you won’t have anyone to protect you." She fumbled with her fingers, "And besides, you’ve already done enough." She darted her eyes to the copy of Cassie’s phone sitting on the bed, next to it’s charger.
Her tone firm, she said, "I don’t want to risk you getting hurt."
Hannah refused, "I won’t, I’m very careful Mrs Grayson."
Brooke pinched her temples. "I mean it Hannah. Now that Serena has been kicked out, Cassie will turn her frustrations to you."
"It’s nothing that I can’t handle." She folded some more clothes into the duffel bags. "You worry more about yourself and Mr Grayson. I still want to watch over Cassie and see if she has anymore secrets."
But Brooke felt uneasy about the whole thing. It was as if things were coming to an unavoidable conclusion, and one wrong move on their end could ruin things.
It was as if there was one thing she had forgotten.
One thing she hadn’t taken account for.
One thing that could come around and mess things up for them.
Piercing through her thoughts, Hannah changed the subject. "What about things on your end? With Mr Reginald." She brought up Julian, making Brooke feel uneasy.
She huffed.
All throughout the day she had been trying to push the thought away, she didn’t want to think about it.
She couldn’t afford to.
"Mrs Grayson, do you want me to find a way for you two to meet?" Hannah was more than happy to do so.
But Brooke dismissed the idea. "That won’t be necessary, because I won’t be seeing him."
Hannah’s jaw dropped to the floor. She nearly stopped packing their things. "I don’t understand what you mean." Perhaps she had misheard and misunderstood.
Doubling down, she insulted, "I’ve decided that I won’t meet with him. And I won’t tell him I know anything either."
Hannah interrogated, "What? Why? How could you say that?" She dropped the final coat into Brooke’s dark purple duffel and turned to face her.
"Brooke, you’ve always wanted a family. After what Cassie and Serena did to you, you deserve to be happy." She lowered her tone, "To be with your real father."
But Brooke was not having it.
"What do you think will happen if Thane finds out the truth?" she left her no time to respond, "He’ll make me leave his side and stay with Julian. I can’t-I won’t leave him." she gritted her teeth.
Hannah was heartbroken to say the least, "This is madness, you are willing to deny yourself the one thing you’ve always wanted over a losing-" her words were cut off by the abrupt return of Thane.
"Are you done with the packing?" he asked, alternating his gaze between both women, his brows tightened.
Brooke hooked her arm in his, "We’re all done here. We should get going, no?"
He looked to Hannah, who had her head lowered to her chest, "I’ll load these in the car." she picked up the duffels and marched out of the room.
Thane frowned, "Is something wrong?"
Brooke grinned from ear to ear, "Not anymore." she hugged him from the side, "Everything is perfect again now that you’re here."
They arrived at the safe house at the evening, it was a moderate sized bungalow, at the outskirts of the city, fully stocked with supplies, canned foods and the groceries they purchased on the way.
There was a small farm at the backyard, and a chicken coup which both seemed well maintained.
"I have a worker come in everyday to tend to the place." he explained, carrying their luggage into the much smaller bedroom.
It was smaller when compared to the size of Thane’s mansion, but relatively the size of a luxury apartment master bedroom.
He set the bags on the bed, "But, we can’t have any help come over for the meantime, aside the gardener, Gilbert and ourselves, no one else knows the location of this place."
Brooke went over and helped him unpack. She frowned, "Will Gilbert say anything about this place to your grandfather?"
"I don’t know," he confessed, and she could see he was stressed over the thought. He was always in control over everything, now he was under another man’s mercy. She took out some clothes, "I don’t think he’ll tell anyone." she said.
"My grandfather can be very...persuasive." He stressed.
She doubled down, "Still. I have some faith in him." She knew it was baseless, but nothing good would come out of them worrying so much about it.
"I’m sorry." She heard him say, his face buried in his palms.
Brooke dropped the clothes and sat next to him, she placed her hand on his knee and rubbed it gently. "Why are you apologizing?"
His head pointed down, he said, "I’m not the ideal husband. I make you worry all the time about me, my family caused you so much pain, and I haven’t done anything to deserve you." He turned his head to the opposite side, hiding his face from her.
She parted her lips to try and console him, but his phone rang.
He grunted, "I should get that." He reached for his phone and brought it to his eyes. But Brooke abruptly yanked it out of his hands.
"Thane." She hardened her voice, turning his phone off. "We’re the only two people here, at least for a few days. Don’t you think we should spend this time with each other?" She challenged, dropping his phone next to him.
Her tone softer, she said, "I barely get time to be with you, and frankly speaking," her tone dropped, "I don’t know when we’ll ever get this chance again."
Ethan was still on her tail, and Cassie wasn’t going to leave her alone. She knew his condition was getting worse, they were both on borrowed time, and she knew this.
Thane caught the discomfort in her tone and immediately enveloped her in his arms. She hugged him back, her chin resting on his shoulders, her eyes teary.
"Please, can we just be together?" She cried softly into his shoulder.
He held her tighter but he didn’t say anything back, and that was what scared Brooke the most.
But she was giving up everything to be with him.
