Chapter 41: Mutated Lucas

Those five dots were, of course, Flain, Itai, and the three skeletons. They were just approaching the door leading outside, and they hadn't encountered anything unusual on the way.

Now, they stood before the massive iron gate. Flain stepped forward, smirked, aimed his hand at it, and struck it with all his strength.

----

"No group was supposed to go there. It's probably just some lost lizards. Leave them be, but if they attack the gate, take them down," one general said, and the other nodded.

However, when the entire iron gate shook and cracked, shock was visible in the generals' eyes.

"If one of those big lizards went crazy, that would be a serious problem... we'd be dead," one of them muttered.

"Alright, open the gate and prepare for an attack," the second one ordered.

----

A massive crater had formed in the gate, with cracks spreading everywhere. After a moment, the gate began to open, revealing about twenty warriors ready for battle.

When they saw Flain and Itai, they relaxed slightly. They hadn't noticed the skeletons since Itai had ordered them to stay back until Flain handled the situation.

"Who are you?!" one of the generals shouted.

"Just an insignificant warrior, and next to me is my friend," Flain replied with a grin, already eager to kill them all for daring to attempt his execution.

"An insignificant fighter? You've got big spines all over your body. You are under arrest in the name of the Empire of Light for damaging imperial property," the general declared.

"But don't worry, this won't result in imprisonment, just compensation for the damage. That is... unless you fail to pay, in which case, it will be imprisonment," the second general added.

"Sorry, but you don't need to worry about that... because you still have a debt to repay," Flain said.

"A debt? To whom?" the second general asked.

"To all of you," Flain said, pointing at every soldier.

The generals exchanged confused glances, but it was already too late.

Flain dashed forward and started slaughtering the soldiers. The generals hesitated, waiting for orders, but it was futile. Flain dodged every arrow, blocked every strike, and slashed through heads without hesitation. The black sword handled a bit differently than his previous one, but its sheer power more than made up for it, allowing Flain to fully unleash his aggression.

Corpses littered the ground around him as he walked toward the last surviving soldier—one of the generals.

"Please... spare me! I'll do anything!" the general begged on his knees.

Flain smirked. "I have no reason to," he whispered, raising his black sword and swinging it. The blade sliced through the man's neck like butter.

Lucas' Perspective:

Lucas was returning from the forest to the camp, carrying a barrel of water on his back. But when he arrived, his mind collapsed.

He saw a blood-soaked figure standing amidst the scattered corpses of Lucas friends and comrades.

Lucas fell to his knees and started crying. They were his friends—the last people he had left. His entire family was already gone, and now... they were too.

The figure, cloaked in bloodstained fabric, turned toward him, and an overwhelming wave of fury surged through Lucas.

Lucas charged at the figure with all his strength, unleashing a flurry of attacks, but the figure effortlessly dodged and blocked every single one, as if toying with him.

"You're starting to bore me," the figure muttered.

Then, with a single kick to Lucas' stomach, the figure sent him flying. Lucas struggled to get up, trembling and coughing up blood. Just that small kick had nearly killed him—if he hadn't been wearing armor, the figure's hand could have gone straight through his torso.

The figure advanced toward him. Lucas kept falling but eventually managed to stand, though he could barely stay on his feet.

"Why am I so weak and powerless?" Lucas mumbled.

'Do you want revenge? Do you want that being before you to die?' A voice echoed in Lucas' mind.

'Who are you? Or is my mind just making up weird voices?' Lucas thought.

'That's not really important. Just ask, and I will do it,' the voice replied.

'Well... it's worth a try. Kill him for me,' Lucas answered in his mind.

The moment he spoke the words in his head, he instantly lost consciousness.

**Flain's Perspective:**

Flain was just about to finish off the last soldier, someone he had toyed with for a while since he remembered he was one of the main ones involved in his execution attempt during Experiment 12.

Lucas, who had been shakily walking toward Flain, suddenly stopped. Then, his head twisted unnaturally toward the side. His mouth opened so wide it seemed like he might break his own jaw.

Above him, small transparent blue orbs began gathering, each with a shifting face on it—exactly like the souls that had poured out of the shattered vase at the end of the dungeon.

'Maybe this is the boss. A bit delayed, but better late than never,' Flain thought with a smirk.

Then, the souls began flowing into Lucas' body. His body started to grow. Within moments, he had become so massive that his armor shattered. His skin darkened to a deep brown, and small gray growths sprouted across his body. Once he had absorbed all the souls, he had reached a towering height of five meters, with three long, thin, pointed horns protruding from his head.

He turned to Flain. His eyes were completely black, except for the small brown irises with black pupils.

"AAAARRRRRH!"

The monster roared. The sound was so powerful that it shook the entire area. Then, it charged at Flain with speed nearly equal to his own.

'Why does every giant monster in this world have to be fast?' Flain thought.

Flain dodged just as the monster's massive fist smashed into the ground where he had been standing. Without hesitation, Flain dashed forward and delivered a precise strike to the monster's chest.

He felt his blade hit skin as hard as steel. monster reacted instantly—his massive hand shot forward and struck Flain directly in the chest.

Flain was sent flying but immediately got back on his feet.

'So, I'll have to use even more strength. Fine... if that's what you want, I'll give it my all.' Flain thought with a grin...
