Chapter 102: Missing Memories

Ark went back to their apartment, had dinner, took a steaming hot shower and went to bed.

He had told everything he discovered to Emma, leaving no detail out, but all he got was a few long moments of laughter.

She couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to get a few laughs from the absurdity of the story but after laughing to her satisfaction, Emma gave it some thought.

Adding this to what she had noticed, it was now clear that something was going on in the fourth shelter, they went over what they knew for some time before deciding to discuss it the next day.

When the clock struck twelve, Ark suddenly sat up straight in one of the rooms and moved through the darkness, until he got to a very stuffed bag.

It was the same bag Emma had asked him about recently.

He ripped it open, smiling at the content within it. Anyone who saw him would be terrified beyond comprehension because in that bag was...

"I should probably ask Silver first."

"Console, Enter the white room."

Suddenly the area around Ark shimmered and was engulfed by a bright white light. Very soon, he was surrounded by the pure white walls of the white room.

He was alone... Silver nowhere in sight.

"Silver?"

For a moment there was silence, and the area in front of him rippled, a girl materialising out of thin air.

Her long silver hair fluttered behind her, and her silver eyes were sharp and focused.

The environment began to change, a large island suddenly emerged from underneath their feet, along with a tall tubular structure.

A lighthouse...

Shortly after, there was a sound of crashing waves, and then a deep blue sea appeared right around them.

It was night and so the lighthouse was casting its bright light atop the ocean, ready to lead any approaching ship to shore... if there were any.

Silver took a moment to observe the area before looking at Ark.

But when she did, she frowned slightly, and then her eyes widened.

"What did you do?!"

She appeared right in front of Ark within seconds and took a whiff of the air around him. Then she began walking around him while paying attention to every single part of his body.

"This is forbidden..."

"What is forbidden?"

There was no response, instead, she continued her search and then she finally stopped in front of him.

Silver grabbed his left hand and flipped it to reveal the back of his hand, and then she passed her hand above it.

Ark’s eyebrows knitted together as he stared at the back of his hand in shock.

Dark blue patterns, like multiple twisted tendrils had appeared on his arm as though they were always there.

They were like a mark but far different, Ark could feel it just by the way it looked.

"What is this?"

Silver looked confused by his question.

"What do you mean ’what is this’? Weren’t you the one that signed the contract?"

Ark shook his head slowly.

"My goodness, what happened in the few days I was away? How can you not remember signing a contract?"

Suddenly, a golden screen appeared before silver and she began to scroll through it.

"A contract can only be signed when both parties are in agreement with the terms. How then did you not know?"

Ark scratched his head as he watched the girl. "Well, that’s what I came to ask. There is a noticeable gap in my memory."

Silver glanced at him from the top of the screen.

"A gap? You don’t remember anything at all?"

Ark nodded.

"That bast—"

She paused and then muttered to herself:

"Someone such as myself cannot utter such words..."

Silver finally stopped scrolling and began to read something from the console.

"Pendant of Ashkew. Does it ring a bell? You signed a contract on that day."

Ark could not exactly remember any contract, but he was sure the pendant was from the goblin king.

"I think I got it from my fight with a goblin king. But I still can’t remember what happened after..."

Silver walked closer to him and stared at him l intently.

"That is because you were poisoned— no, drugged would be more correct— actually that is still wrong."

Her eyes narrowed slightly before she drew back.

"A spell has been cast on you, a memory loss spell. It was done by whoever you signed the contract with..."

Silver took his hand once more and flipped it over.

"Forbidden and yet not exactly terrible... have you found out what it does?"

Ark ran his hand through his hair.

"I think it gives me the power to possess corpses."

She paused and stared at him looking slightly surprised.

"Possession? That is not an ability a regular Aslarian can possess. What would someone of such rank be doing here?" She asked herself.

’Aslarian... Ark had read the term on the system once before.’

"What is an Aslarian?"

Silver glanced at him and shook her head.

"Remember, you get more information the stronger you get. I can see you have progressed but it is not enough."

"Learn how to use this new ability and in exchange I will give you another piece of information."

Ark frowned.

"Really? How am I supposed to use it when I have practically no information on the ability? The system doesn’t even give any information save for its name."

Silver shrugged.

"That is how contracts are. You get information on curses transplanted into your head, but you have to figure out how to use contracts yourself."

"Is that all you wanted to ask me?"

Ark shook his head.

"My memories... can’t you do something about them?"

She seemed to consider it for some time.

"I can... but the pretty lady you fought a while back asked me not to give you handouts, you’ll never grow fast enough that way."

The world slowly began to fall apart and the room

was slowly turning white once more.

But just before the world collapsed, Silver’s eyes suddenly brightened up with concern. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Oh, and by the way, never tell anyone about the contract and cover your hand if you want to use it. If it gets to the ears of some certain people— you will be killed."

Silver smiled and waved as the world was slowly dissipating. "Grind those class upgrade points! You’re very close."

"Wait, wait, what do you mean killed?" Ark tried to ask, but the world collapsed and he was once again in his room, in front of the bag.

He could summon Silver again but what were the chances she would answer his question?

Ark stared into the bag just as a golden screen flashed across his face.

"You didn’t need to tell me..." Ark said to himself as he looked into the bag.

Within the bag was a pile of white bones— the corpse of an undead minion.

"... I already planned on practicing a long time ago."
