Chapter 108: Another Profane Beast?

Two gigantic shadows suddenly hopped over the wall, crawling down the wall within seconds.

These beasts were large, about the size of an armoured tank. Just like the smaller spiders they were covered in sharp spikes and had a myriad of multiple eyes on their heads, only this time they were more oppressive.

Their bodies shimmered in the soft light as though coated by metal and their spikes looked as strong as steel. They were also fast, far faster than any spider they had previously fought.

The soldiers panicked, fumbling with their weapons and before they could orient themselves, the beasts were already upon them.

Clang!

Ark ran in front of one of the soldiers, defending her from a massive swipe. His entire body vibrated from the impact, his hands trembled and he gritted his teeth.

He put his strength into his arms and barely managed to shove the spider back.

"You guys handle the other spider I’ll take—"

It seemed the second spider was not in agreement with his plan because it launched into the air, charging right at Ark.

Before it could crash into Ark, a cold wind washed over them as an ice arrow suddenly collided with the beast, knocking it back.

Behind him, Emma was already notching another arrow, while the military cure bearers charged at the beast.

Ark spun his axe in the air and stared right at the first spider, seeing his body reflected in its multiple eyes.

And then he moved—

Within seconds, Ark was already at the spider’s side, swinging his axe with vigour. The beast jumped back just as the axe flashed past it and drove its sharp limb forward.

Dodging underneath its swipe, Ark pushed his way toward the creature, and when he was just below it, he delivered a massive uppercut, his hand digging into the underpart of its head.

The spider was knocked up into the air, and before it could land another arrow flew through the air, this one a wind arrow.

Whoosh!

A small tornado appeared for a brief second, pulling the spider into its midst... right where Ark was waiting.

He reared his axe back, ready to deliver a decisive blow when all the spider’s eyes twisted and locked him.

It was then Ark realized that the beast had not been focusing entirely on him at the start.

Just as the golden glow began to emanate from his axe, a silky blue web suddenly shot out of its abdomen and onto the floor.

The spider disappeared from the sky, pulling itself to the floor at an astonishing speed.

Once it landed, everything about it changed. The spider’s back throbbed and then suddenly, something exploded out of it, a massive wave of webs flying in all directions.

Ark swung forward, severing an approaching web while running back to avoid a few others. The webs were everywhere, flying in all directions, he had to remain on his feet to avoid getting caught by them.

By the time the webs had settled... Ark was completely surrounded.

He was in the midst of a forest of blue webs, with the spider standing perfectly still atop it, staring at him with raging eyes.

"Ark? Everything is fuzzy." Emma panicked, her bow waving in the air.

The webs were vibrating slightly in the wind, while the spider stood still.

’The vibrations must be affecting her senses.’

He would be receiving no aid from her in this fight.

Ark raided his axe forward and began to creep forward.

"What can you sense?"

"I can somewhat sense you but the webs... the material is weird, I can’t really tell where the spider is." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Although Emma could not see, Ark nodded.

"Just follow my lead, when I give you the signal, hit me with one of your strongest fire arrows."

There was a moment of silence.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes—"

The webs around Ark suddenly began to vibrate, and then they rushed at him, each one hoping to ensure him.

Ark slashed at the web with his axe but soon realized how pointless it was. The axe was heavy and not well suited to cutting webs, what was needed was his bare hands.

Letting his axe dissipate into a wave of golden sparks, Ark swung his fingers at the approaching webs.

There was a sharp whisper as the webs came apart, and he swung once again, this time at the spider.

Immediately the web in front of the spider was severed, the spider suddenly disappeared, appearing on another web in the opposite direction.

’So it has its danger sensing mechanism.’

This was the spider’s domain, it was foolish to think he could take it out that easily.

But what if it could instantly dodge? All he had to do was break its domain, and break the spider along with it.

As though the spider knew his intentions, the webs all around them began to vibrate violently, and then like before, they all lunged at him, this time faster than before, with more intent and vigour.

Ark was dodging webs every second, his feet moving like an elegant dancer and he jumped, dodged and ducked underneath the onslaught.

He rotated his body, his dagger slipping out of its sheath to sever a relatively large web.

And then the air pulsed as he released a deadly slash. The spider tried to dodge, but this time it was a little late.

The blue webs were stained green with blood as some of its legs were eviscerated in an instant.

The spider shrieked and pounced at Ark, its eyes hungry for violence.

A small smile spread across his face as he raised his fingers in the air, ready to split the beast into strips of meat.

That was when something latched onto his leg—

Whoosh!

One of the webs curled forward and grabbed onto Ark’s feet and before he knew what was happening he was flying through the air.

He slashed at the web, but even when the web was cut, his momentum sent him forward— right into the spider’s waiting maw.

Gulp!
