Chapter 109: Belly of the Beast!

Get eaten by a monster, Check!

Never in his short life did Ark ever think he would be ingested and yet here he was wallowing with the belly of a beast.

He heard Emma scream his name a few seconds ago, to her he might have simply disappeared. Or maybe she figured out that he had been eaten, who knows?

The spider’s belly smelled like shit mixed up with bile acids and more shit.

Ark spat but regretted it a second later.

"Why the hell did I open my mouth?!"

"Damn it, I did it agai—"

Ark paused, realizing he was repeating the same mistake. The stench of its stomach was so bad that he could almost taste it, actually, he could in fact taste it— but sometimes it’s best to live in a lie.

He pushed against the thick muscles of the spider forcefully but the muscles of its belly pushed back with equal force.

The stomach acids of the monster were searing his flesh and Ark felt a little numbness. Its belly was probably toxic but due to Ark’s immunity to poisons, he was mostly fine... for now.

A golden screen suddenly flashed in front of his face.

[Really, you got eaten?]

Ark scoffed, relaying his thoughts in his head.

’Why don’t you come in here with me instead of hiding behind the system?’

[Heh]

Ark could practically hear the words.

[I am emissary of a Celeste should reduce myself to becoming Spider gruel?]

[You can’t be serious]

[Well]

[I just came to tell you to hurry up and unlock the next class, you don’t have much time...]

Ark cocked a brow while he pushed against the muscles of the spider.

’What do you mean I don’t have much time?’

[I mean I’m tired of waiting!]

[That will be all for now. Have fun becoming chyme, you seem to like digesting]

The golden screen suddenly disappeared.

Ark scoffed.

"That woman—"

"Shi—"

’Shit, note to self. Never open your mouth in a god-damn stomach!’

***

The world was dark, a fathomless darkness that could not be pierced no matter how much Emma tried.

Emma was not completely blind and so occasionally she would see a bright flash of light, although blurred to the point of being useless it was still a relief.

She couldn’t imagine how it would be if she only saw darkness throughout her life.

And yet she was completely stranded. Normally, Emma could tell the position and shapes of people and things through the vibrations they gave off.

But even now that ability was rendered useless, the spider had disappeared, as though it had merged with the webs.

Occasionally, she would sense it just before it completely vanished once more.

She sighed, her bow still pointed forward.

Ark had told her to wait for his sign and so she waited, up until the point when he disappeared.

"Ark?!"

There was no response...

Cold sweat ran down her back as she waved her bow around slowly.

’Should I go after him?’

When spiders stick to their webs, they begin to move with it. Every single vibration and every single tremor would pass through its body which was what made it hard for her to sense it.

But that was not the worst part— Its body was shockingly similar to its webs

’Maybe I can get it to leave the webs?’

’No.’

She had to trust Ark.

’One minute, if he doesn’t respond in one minute then I’ll—"

"Emma! Now!"

***

The spider had made a fatal mistake, and that mistake was letting someone as destructive as Ark into its belly.

’I mean... this is a basic movie cliche!’

’When a monster gobbles you up...’

Ark pushed against its belly and raised his hands at his side. Distortions in space began to buzz in his fingers, followed by a sharp whisper that sounded like fast moving wind.

Whoosh!

Flesh exploded, blowing out of the monster’s back along with a wave of green blood.

Ark popped his head out of the spider’s belly and sucked in a large gulp of air before screaming at the top of his voice.

"Emma, Now!"

And then Ark quickly retreated back into the safety of its stomach.

Emma immediately turned in the direction of his voice, for a moment she sensed him before he vanished.

But she no longer needed to sense him, it seemed the spider was injured because it was rolling around and destroying the harmony it had with its webs.

Emma held onto her bowstring and an arrow appeared in her fingers, she pulled her powerful bow strong with as much strength as she could muster, her fingers trembling as she got halfway.

"Fire."

A spark appeared on the arrow before it suddenly went ablaze, the orange flames licking the enchanted wood.

And then she let go...

Boom!

The arrow slipped right through the webs and went straight at its target, exploding just as it made contact with the beast.

A bright glow filled Emma’s vision, brightening up the night.

Fire hungrily spread through the webs as they erupted in flames, burning to ash and falling to the floor.

The spider no longer moved, Emma could not see it, but the beast was blacked to a crust, its leg twitching slightly but soon, even that faded.

Out of the charred corpse, someone suddenly peeked his head and sucked in the ashy air.

"Oh how I love the smell of victory!"

Not too far from them, the second colossal spider fell to the ground with a loud thump. There was a gaping hole in its abdomen and green blood was spewing out of it like a river.

Damian let out a long sigh, lowering his rifle to the ground. His body was caked in dirt and his clothes completely soaked by the rain.

He ran his hand through his hair and fell to his knees breathing heavily.

Some of the military curse bearers had various degrees of injuries but apart from that, they seemed fine.

The wall that had kept the beasts at bay for as long as it could was severely damaged, but they had survived, they had won.

Emma heard shuffling as Ark climbed out of the corpse of the spider and walked up to her.

She felt a sticky hand grab onto her shoulder and wrinkled her nose when she noticed the appalling smell coming from him.

He was about to speak when she cut him off.

"What the hell happened to you? You smell like shit."

Ark smiled.

"Tell me about it!"
