Chapter 35: Trauma

"Ahhhhhh!"

A scream tore through Ark’s throat as the pain of the injury came upon him all at once.

He could feel everything, the blood seeping out of the wound, the broken bones and even down to the raindrops that ignited the wound with fire.

He could see what was left of his femur sticking out, alongside the severed muscles.

Ark crawled backward as though he was trying to escape reality, but it was very much real.

Shaking his head to overcome his panicked state, Ark held onto the end of his thighs to reduce the bleeding, but it was barely doing anything.

At the rate at which he was bleeding—he was going to die.

Ark could already feel his body getting weaker with each passing second.

’How does this make any sense?’

Ark frantically looked around but there was no one in sight to assist him, he was all alone....

’Silver... yes, silver should be able to fix this.’

"Silver! Silver!"

There was no response.

The water flowing past him was now red with blood. Ark’s breathing intensified even more, and he felt his heartbeat skyrocket.

His heart was beating faster in order to compensate for the lack of blood.

’Am I really going die here?’

Ark was at a loss for words. Even if he was to die, he always assumed it would have been a little later at least.

But this was reality, wasn’t it? No one chose their death.

And yet Ark was doing just that. He grabbed onto the wound with renewed vigour, tearing his shirt to pieces just to wrap it around his wounds.

But just as he reached for it, he felt his arms tremble.

He weakly tried to tie the cloth around his legs but it was already too late, he was too weak to do anything.

Ark collapsed by the side, his body embracing the cold floor and his soul lost forever.

He was dead.

*

Ring!

There was a gentle ringing, calm and pleasant, followed by a loud obstinate boom of a much louder bell.

Tak Tak Tak

It was the all too familiar sound of the raindrops exploding on contact with the floor.

"I can’t die!!!!"

With sudden motion Ark suddenly rose to a sitting position, his eyes shot wide open as he observed his surroundings.

There was the rain... there were people as well warily staring at him while they walked past.

’Where am I?’

Immediately, he reached for his legs, frantically, only to find that they were still intact.

"Don’t worry, your legs are secure."

Ark slowly turned to face the petite girl who had bent down to observe him, a small smile on her face.

He took a deep breath

"A-all that... w-what happened?"

She tilted her head slightly. "What do you mean? That was the punishment for failing the task... I programmed it myself."

"Oh." That was all he managed to voice out, his voice slightly high pitched.

’It’s just a little inconvenience.’

That was what she had told him... 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Ark slowly raised a shaky hand to his face and ran it through his wet hair.

Meanwhile, she was smiling.

’This woman... She’s the devil.’

"Move that over there!" A man said as he directed one of the workers carrying a larger large crate.

"Not there fool! That one goes with the others, more to the left!"

Frustrated, the man walked up to his coworker and joined him in carrying the crate to a less congested area.

All around, different men were going around carrying heavy fortified crates from a large truck and placing them on the floor, pending when they would be moved once again.

As such there were many of these similar crates all around the first floor.

The men were in a very remote part of the city with multiple trees dotting the area. Here, nature had been left undisturbed, and as a result, the area was filled with wildlife, including musical birds and incessant insects.

The area had been quiet not too long ago, but shortly after they started work it became like a madhouse, with a second not passing by before they would hear the next scream or shrill.

A man in a well ironed suit walked into the scene, keenly observing the entire area. He nodded approvingly as he began to walk around the site.

He moved over to one of the crates and gave it a tap, causing it to explode in motion.

That was because, in every single one of these crates, an apocalypse beast was being held.

"Hey, don’t stack these two together, space them up a little." The man said to one of the workers.

"Sure thing, Christopher!" The man replied cheerfully as he walked over to the crate.

"Heave hoo! Urgh!" He sucked in a breath and picked up the crate, relocating it a bit farther than before and making sure to drop it gently.

Every single one of these creatures would be used for the exam that would be carried out in a few days, he needed them in perfect condition till then.

The site would be the area for the selection exams and so he was sent there to make sure everything was in order.

There was nothing to report, everything was going smoothly and yet, there was one little thing that bothered him.

’The slum rat...’

Christopher had objected against him participating in the exams due to his roots. People from the slums could not be trusted with such power.

Already, they were the major perpetrators of crimes even with their small population, allowing one of them Awaken... it was a blunder on their part.

The Wielder’s center wouldn’t take his word, but there was another way to do things.

He walked over to a crate that was much larger than the others.

’The Center will never approve but.. it should work.’

Boom!

The cage was violently rocked as a creature shrouded in the darkness of the space rammed into the wall, almost knocking the cage down.

From the darkness, two shiny blue eyes locked on the man, filled with intense malice.

With a satisfied smile on his face, the man turned around and continued his inspection.

"Now, now, don’t disappoint me... pretty."

A dark smile appeared on his lips.
