"Woohoo!!"
Ark screamed as he collapsed on his bed, taking in heavy breaths as beads of sweat once again stained his clothes and even dampened his sheets.
In the end, it was on the third day that he was finally able to complete every part of the training without incurring the punishment.
The past few days...
They were horrifying. Ark did not fancy himself someone who scared easily, but Silver was very creative, to say the least.
Currently, the girl had gone to whatever place she left whenever she was off her work of torturing him.
All he had to do to summon her was call her name when the console was open but he was in no mood to have another argument with the woman.
"I... need to bathe..."
He had just completed the 100 push-ups and now his hands felt like jelly, the strong feeling of vomiting was still present as well.
’I hate push-ups.’ He thought as he pushed his body to stand and stumble into the shower.
Out of all the exercises, push-ups were unnecessarily difficult and painful...
He walked up to the mirror and stared at his figure, of course, he was still scrawny and very much lacking in muscles.
Exercise was not magic, although some parts of his body had swollen due to hypertrophy, it was just temporary. And then, even this temporary pump was completely rubbish, it just went to show how much more work he needed to do.
’And food...’
He needed to eat far more as well.
Ark took a cold shower to soothe his muscles before putting on his clothes and sitting on the bed to catch his breath.
After the shower, he felt strength flood his muscles, but now he was facing another dilemma. He was hungry.
Thankfully it was dinner time. Waddling out of his room due to the pain in his legs, he slowly made his way to the cafeteria.
A number of young curse bearers were here as well, some already seated while others were getting their food.
Their general perception of him was the same, no one liked a slum dweller but now they must have remembered the reason why they didn’t like them in the first place.
Slum dwellers were dangerous, he was dangerous.
And now, they had come to accept it.
Sitting at the other side of the room, Ethan was watching Ark with barely restrained fury, he too seemed to have recovered from the little ’accident’ but was still oddly fixated on him.
For the first time ever, Ark returned a glare causing him to flinch slightly.
Ark’s message was as clear as day, ’I haven’t forgotten.’
He went by the servers and was about to grab a bowl of rice when he heard a voice in his head.
"No no no! Protein!"
Ark paused, staring at the bowl before putting it back on the table.
"Don’t you ever sleep?" Ark thought.
"Not when I know you don’t know how to plan a diet."
"You really want to lecture me on what to eat as well?"
"Hello?"
Ark turned to see someone by his side.
"Can you move? You’re holding up the line..."
It was a boy with black hair and vibrant green eyes, unlike Ark, he was rather built with broad shoulders and taunt biceps.
"You see, that guy knows how to plan a diet!"
Ark sighed as he continued onward, picking up the food that Silver pointed out.
In the end, his plate was packed with various delicious-looking proteins, a decent amount of carbs and vegetables.
He then walked over to his usual seat.
"Good evening."
Ark picked up his fork from the tray while the girl simply nodded in response.
When she looked at him, her eyebrows rose slightly.
"Are you okay? You look exhausted."
Ark looked up from his food, "Yeah, a mosquito just sneaked into my room recently, I’ve been exhausted trying to chase it out."
This seemed to confuse her the more, she watched him for an awkward second causing Ark to finally cough up the truth.
"I’ve been working out."
"Oh."
Her eyes roamed over to his arms which were just slightly wider than hers. Kiera brought her bowl of rice to her face, using chopsticks to take a bite.
"Oh?"
’What do you mean oh?’
"She means you look weak. And who are you calling a mosquito?!"
Ark ignored Silver and instead ate his food in silence.
"Don’t overdo it." Kiera said after they had finished eating.
"Sorry?"
"Your workout, the selection exams are soon. You need to get a proper rest, the bus moves early on Saturday morning..."
"I’ll try not to."
Ark couldn’t tell her that he had no control over how much exercise he would do.
After that, Kiera picked up her tray and walked away, leaving Ark on the table alone.

For the remaining days before the exams, Ark continued to follow Silver’s workout plan which left him exhausted most of the time.
Still, he could already feel a slight difference, his muscles felt firmer and his endurance had been greatly bolstered.
And then finally, the day of the exams had come.
According to the information that was passed to him by one of the staff at night, the bus was meant to move by 6 am so as early as 4 am, Ark was already up.
He did a few light exercises before getting into the shower.
The professor had recommended that they wear armour in his briefing a few days ago and so that was what most of his pairs would be wearing today.
But armour was very expensive so all Ark had to wear was a simple white shirt, his thickest pair of jeans and a jacket.
Ark stared at the clock. "5:30."
"Alright, time to move."
He walked over to his door and pulled the doorknob, but to his surprise, the door didn’t move.
Ark tried applying a bit more force and even put his shoulder into it but the result was the same.
The door wouldn’t budge.
It was locked.
