Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 56: Extra Weight
Ark descended down the stairs in a black tracksuit he found among his new clothes, he also had sneakers on as well which squeaked against the floor as he went down.
It was still very early, around the time when government workers were still tussling around in bed.
Most people in the house were either asleep or still in their room, but when he got to the living room, there was someone sitting on the couch.
Ark took a second to recall her name... Emma.
The girl turned her head to face him at the sound of his shoes, and then a confused expression flashed before her face, just before it calmed.
"Oh, you’re the new guy right?" She gestured with her fingers, urging him to come closer.
Ark was in a hurry to leave and start his training, but he didn’t feel too good about leaving just like that.
’I’ll leave if it’ll take too long.’
Ark walked over to where the girl was, all through that time, she just stared into space, her eyes never meeting him.
Once he got close enough he said:
"Good morning."
"Morning... I hope you don’t mind?" She asked, bringing her hands to his face. "I do this to get a mental picture of people I would be spending time with."
Ark moved slightly closer. "Sure, no problems."
Her warm hands graced his face gently, they went to his nose, forehead and cheeks before finally settling on his ears.
Once she touched them she immediately removed her fingers, a small frown appearing on her face.
Then she felt them once more and twisted his ears slightly.
"Ouc—"
"You... I know you." She said, interrupting him.
’Of course you do.’ Ark thought but otherwise remained silent.
Her face brightened up a second layer. "You’re the clumsy boy from the center! No wonder your footsteps seemed so familiar."
It was then he realized that he had been scammed. It was weird that she asked to feel his face out of the blue with the excuse that it was something she normally did.
’She probably just wanted to sate her curiosity.’
Ark sighed.
"Clumsy, really? I’m offended that that is what you remembered me by."
She laughed, the smile that followed full of mischief.
"You did run into a blind girl didn’t you?"
Ark coughed.
"I did not know you were blind at the time..."
Ark then remembered how she had asked him for directions to the center when they were just a few meters away from it.
’It was obvious from the very beginning...’
"You are going somewhere right?" She rose to her feet. "I need to head to the gym as well."
Emma began walking away before turning back to say: "See you at breakfast!"
***
The squad house was a little distant from civilization and because of this, there was a lot of greenery all around them.
The trees, long grasses and the scarcity of cars made the air around here cool and refreshing.
Ark was completely soaked all over when he finally ended his jog, his legs trembling slightly.
But even then, he could feel it, his body was quickly adapting and reforming itself, getting stronger in the process.
He could run longer without going out of breath, his body felt far healthier and his strength had improved as well.
The training was working.
He diverted off the road just as he had finished his jog and went down on the grass, ready to do his first push up.
That was when he felt a weight settle on his back, Ark looked up to see shimmering Silver hair and reflective eyes staring down at him.
For a moment, he almost flinched while staring at the stranger, but that look in her eyes was all he needed to know who was currently on his back.
"Silver?"
The girl nodded. "What? Why do you seem surprised?"
Ark balanced himself on one hand and pointed at her hair with the other.
"Didn’t you have purple hair?"
She glanced at the strands of hair on her shoulder and it shimmered, turning purple just before it turned back to silver.
"This is my original hair colour, think of it as a promise... Although there are some things beyond my authority to say, as you requested, I will tell you the truth as long as you truly get strong enough, but with one secret at a time."
’So she actually thought about it...’
"Alright, that sounds like a plan."
With Silver sitting atop him, Ark slowly went down, beginning the first out of many push-ups.
*
Ark pushed his body above the ground, lifting himself from a prone position to an erect one.
Sit ups seem rather simple at first but the farther you went the more intense the pain became to the point where it felt like his abdomen was collapsing upon itself.
He needed his core muscles if he wanted to take blows more effectively, not only that, the core was also important for increasing the potency of his attacks.
Or at least that was what Silver had said a few minutes ago...
Pushing through the agonizing pain, he managed to complete the final sit-up before immediately switching to a push-up position, to complete the remaining fifty.
Just as he did, Silver appeared atop him once more, a lollipop in her mouth.
Ark’s shoulders trembled slightly as his body brushed against the grass floor. His elbows were shaky and every fiber of his muscles felt on fire.
"101..."
He went down again, repeating the agonizing process, although Silver was light, it was still a full person sitting on his back...
The process had become exponentially harder.
"149...150."
[Mission Complete!]
He collapsed to the floor, with Silver still atop him.
The girl snickered from above as she rose to her feet. "And here I was thinking you could hit 200..."
She then bent down to stare at him before sitting on his back once more.
"Add an extra fifty— and I’ll teach you to manage your blight."
