Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 75: Apocalyptic Descent (2)
The battlement was getting hotter with each passing second. The roar of the torrents as well as the shots from the mortar were doing little to salvage the situation.
Luke adjusted his robe feeling slightly annoyed, he hated the heat, it always made his skin crawl, and yet, there was nothing he could do in this situation.
Ark had been shooting away at beasts as though he was playing an FPS game, and Luke would always spare him a glance each time he would forget himself and scream in excitement.
Deep in his heart, he wished he had one of those, but it was too late for that, everyone was too busy trying to stay alive to bother with helping him find a gun. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Beside him, Elise stared at the battle, completely absorbed by it. The flare of the roaring torrents was reflecting in her eyes, making it look as though fires were biting in their very depths.
Her short black hair was flowing at the sides of her face and her fingers were tightened on the hilt of her dagger, ready to jump into battle at any time.
Luke turned away from her, staring at the battle instead. So far, they had managed to keep the beasts at bay with mostly their weapons.
They were currently dominating the horde, but sooner or later the tone of the battle was sure to shift.
And not long after, it did...
Out of the portal came a new wave of beasts, they were just like the earlier skeletons but with beefier bones and instead of coming barehanded, they had large shields in their hands and moved in a coordinated assault.
That was when the weapons began to fail...
The bullets bounced helplessly against their shields, collapsing uselessly on the floor, even the torrents were taking longer to take them down.
The only weapons that were still effective were the short-range mortars and even still, they were slowly failing.
These new beasts, skeleton lieutenants, were swiftly approaching. Luke did not know if it was intentional or not since immoral beasts often lacked intelligence, but their approach was covering the attack of the other beasts that had been previously easily destroyed.
The more they inched closer the more jittery those on the front lines became. Thalia noticed this and was about to issue an order, but instead turned to face Luke.
But he had already taken a step forward...
No one needed to tell him after all.
Luke sucked in a breath, the air around them igniting with little sparks as he pointed his hands forward.
A large blue rune appeared just in front of his fingers slowly rotating as he gazed down on the beasts below.
"Begone."
Whoosh!
The heat on the battlement went up to an uncomfortable degree as large streams of blue flames erupted from his fingers.
The blue flames made contact with the rune and immediately twisted, their form changing and the flames coiling around each other, forming a longer stream of fire.
Boom!
The ground below exploded as the fire consumed the horde of skeletons, turning them into firewood, as the flames rolled across the floor decimating the horde.
The bone skeletons ran around in panic, most of them with torched skulls that brightened up the darkness.
"URAHHHHHHH!"
The soldier screamed as they saw the broken formations, the torrents roared back to life continuing their relentless assault on the beast below.
Luke adjusted his robe once more.
"I hate the heat."
Meanwhile, Elise was watching the scene of utter carnage with wide eyes, she turned to face Luke.
"You’re amazing!"
He shrugged, a faint blush appearing on his cheeks.
"Is that so?"

Thalia watched the battle from high up on the battlements, her eyes taking note of every single thing that was happening.
It was not the first time she was commanding a squad like this before, there were times the commander would leave things to her during an apocalypse and go to single-handedly quel a gate that appeared somewhere else in the city.
He had taught her well. She knew just where to look, just what to watch out for and when to make use of her resources.
That was why she knew that although it looked like they were winning, it was far from it.
The soldiers were getting weary from the continuous bombardment, their bullets were not endless either and so soon they would need to restock.
There was also the issue of the effects the torrents had on mundane humans, they were created out of parts of apocalypse beasts so they could not be exposed to long time use of the weapons.
Because of this, they were constantly being switched out for new operatives.
But that was not the biggest problem...
The wave boss, it was yet to come.
Only after the wave boss was defeated would the wave be considered cleared.
Until she saw what kind of beast it was, she could not lower her guard.
Below them, a beast finally managed to make it to the front lines, a skeleton lieutenant.
Just as it got close to the man, it lashed out at him, batting the riot shield to the side and stabbing its sword right through the man’s neck.
The soldiers unleashed a full barrage of bullets at it, but before they took it down it tossed its sword with all its might, the weapon digging deep into another man’s chest.
It was the first break in the line, but more were no doubt coming.
Thump!
Suddenly, the earth shook to its very core and the battlement rattled underneath the force.
Thump!
Once again, that same sound spread through the area and the ground once again rattled underneath an unseen pressure.
And then it finally emerged.
Thalia saw its head at first, large blood red tusks several meters long that peeked out of the gate, followed by a massive furry head.
The beast was massive, more than capable of dwarfing a small house, and its large furry back was set ablaze, bright yellow flames dancing on its fur and yet leaving it undamaged.
There was a massive ear piercing roar as the beast lifted its colossal trunk high up into the air and blew with all its might.
With a mighty step the earth shook once more, the devil bats all flew towards it, flying around the top of the beast like moths to a flame, making it resemble the very incarnation of the apocalypse.
The beast had four eyes, each one red and burning with unhinged fury, and right now, all those eyes were staring right at the battlement.
Thalia pushed her Scythe off her shoulders and pointed it forward.
"Malevolent rank Hell flame marmot."
The wave boss had arrived.
