Chapter 85: Building a god

The door led to a large grandiose room with bright light fixtures, an elegant carpet, a conference table and expensive flooring.

But that was sometime in the past, all it took was a few minutes for the goblins to transform the entire thing into something that fit their image perfectly.

Most of the light fixtures had been destroyed, leaving broken glass scattered around the floor, the carpet was ragged and covered in multiple stains— probably due to the filth of their bodies.

And the room smelled of smoke, urine and roasting meat, due to the large campfire they had in the center of the room.

But that was not the worst part, in this room, there were over a hundred goblins, each one armed with either a crooked sword, a dagger or a club.

"She’s over there," Kiera said, pointing to a spot in the mass of bodies.

At the edge of the room, three girls were tied up with what appeared to be curtain fabric, most likely the minister’s daughter and her friends.

Goblins were dancing around them, each one with lascivious eyes. On the heads of each of the girls, were weaved leaves made to look like hair adornments and muddy drawings had been painted on their faces.

It seemed they were having some sort of ritual, which was the cause of the noise they had heard earlier.

The lust emanating from the goblins was visible even from where they were and yet for whatever reason, they only went as far as watching them with lustful eyes.

It was only when Ark noticed something else in the room that he finally realized why.

Seated at the very end of the room on a white plastic chair that had been decorated to look like a throne was another goblin.

But not any type of goblin, the beast was smaller than the rest, had light blue skin, was dressed far more elaborately and was wielding a long staff.

Kiera slowly shut the door.

"A profane beast."

Their mission had just gotten far more complicated.

Ark was not conceited enough to believe he could take on a hundred goblins and live.

The more monsters he killed, the more his spirit core grew but even still, it was still too much of a stretch.

And that was just the regular goblins, the profane beast was more than enough to single handedly dissuade them, add it to the mix and it became impossible.

But they could not simply leave the girls to their fate, chances were that they were just biding their time, waiting for orders from their king.

The only thing that awaited them if Ark and Kiera left was a fate far worse than death.

Ark sighed and turned to Kiera who also seemed to be contemplating the entire thing.

"What do you think?"

"We can’t fight them all and win." She paused and brought her finger to her chin. "We will have to split them up."

It was a smart idea, but pulling it off was a different story altogether.

"How do you plan on doing that?"

Something as simple as a loud sound at the bottom floor was not nearly enough to cause a massive migration, they needed something far more potent.

Kiera stared up at the ceiling.

"Well, with a little bit of magic of course."

Kiera suddenly rose to her feet and walked up to one of the bodies of the dead goblins.

"My curse makes it harder to control living beings and it gets even harder when it’s humans, at that point, I can mostly do pushing and pulling alone..."

Ark’s mind went to how he was unceremoniously tossed right over the fence, now it made sense...

"But as for a dead body..."

The large goblin suddenly shook and levitated slightly.

"It should be far easier."

A dark smile found its way to her lips as she watched the puppet with a strange look in her eyes.

’This girl...’

***

It took a couple of minutes of practice before Kiera could finally manipulate the bodies of the beasts well enough.

Kiera had well— she had dressed up the goblin to fit its role. There were runic patterns drawn on its bald head with blood, a circle of blood was drawn around its left eye and its clothes were dripping blood.

It looked like some sort of ancient serial killer goblin priest, and the blindfold was not helping matters.

But Kiera insisted that it was a goblin god...

Throughout the time of its creation, Ark took occasional glances into the room to ensure they were not running out of time, and finally, when Kiera was satisfied with her work they left.

They made their way to the roof, two large goblins floating ahead of them. By now they had already solidified their simple yet difficult plan.

The roof had a glass ceiling with a window that could be opened from the top. When they got to the roof, their plan was to lower the corpses down, making the corpse look like an undead goblin deity.

Already, swords had been bound to both their limbs, making them not just a simple distraction, but a lethal one as well.

Kiera could only control one puppet effectively at a time, so the second one was meant to be a backup.

They would cause commotion using the first goblin and when the corpse is hacked down by the goblins, the corpse would rise and flee from the room, hopefully taking the other goblins along with it or at least scaring them enough for Ark to capitalize on.

Ark picked up a long piece of cloth that had a thick piece of wood attached to it and wrapped it around his waist just as they climbed the roof.

To their surprise, on the non-glass portion of the roof, there was a helicopter simply lying there.

"This guy sure has a ton of money. Who has his own personal helicopter parked on his roof?"

Kiera stared at it less enthusiastically.

"We have one back at home..."

Ark let out a sigh. He had almost forgotten that Kiera came from a rich family as well.

"If we had a pilot, that would have been our best option. But whoever was meant to fly this is probably dead."

Getting here had been difficult and it had probably gotten worse now that gates were opening at random.

Kiera stared at the helicopter for some time.

"I can fly it— I think..."

"What do you mean by ’you think’?"

Kiera smirked and walked past him towards the glass roof, ignoring his question.

They both lay flat on the roof, crawled up to the first glass window and peered down.

The room was now dark due to the lack of lighting, so it was rather very difficult for the goblins to spot them.

After making sure that everything was ready, Ark summoned his axe and lifted it high above the glass.

Crash!

He slammed his axe against the glass window, shattering the glass and alerting all the goblins below.

There was a wave of incoherent grunts as they all stared up at the source of the noise, but what they saw made them take a fear-inspired step back.

High up in the sky, descending from above was a goblin like them. It had a blindfold wrapped around its eyes and two deadly swords that gleamed red underneath the crimson moon.

There was a sound of screeching iron, followed by a screech that caused their breath to momentarily freeze.

This flying goblin was slowly descending upon them, ready to bring with it a wave of death and destruction.
