Chapter 86: Puppet Master

"Ulithi pata!" A goblin screamed, pointing frantically at their puppet all while shaking with fear.

Shadows danced across the room and the flames flickered as though announcing the descent of a deity.

There was another shriek, this time more terrifying than the last.

The crimson moon seemed to shine a little brighter and soon, red liquid began to drip from the roof and down to the floor.

Goblin blood...

The goblins recognized it immediately, the blood only serving to fuel their fear and soon there was a wide clearing where their puppet was to land.

Ark smiled as he watched the result of his actions, pushing the second goblin corpse back and watching what was about to unfold.

He faced the sky once more, twisting his voice to let out a guttural shriek. Kiera gave him the side eye as he giggled childishly before looking down below.

The puppet finally landed on the floor and for a short time there was complete silence, no one took a step. The king goblin had a bored expression on its face as it watched the commotion, unwilling to even take a step.

Among everyone present, it seemed to be the most unmoved by their entire performance.

The puppet stood in the center of the clearing, completely still and soon the fear the goblins once had began to recede.

The boldest goblin took a step forward, its club in hand as it walked closer to the puppet. The goblin got close to the larger goblin and stared at it for some time.

Nothing happened...

The tension in the room dissipated suddenly and there was a wave of depraved laughter. The brave goblin got even closer and poked the puppet, showing that it was completely harmless.

And then it raised its club in the air ready to strike when—

Whoosh!

The goblin’s bald head flew off its shoulders as one of the puppet’s rusty blades cut cleanly through its neck.

Blood shot out of its neck like a fountain, adding to the blood already at the puppet’s feet, Its tiny body remained standing while its head rolled over the floor, right to the group of the horde.

All the goblins stared down at the corpse and back to the bloodied goblin puppet which now took a single step forward.

The room descended into complete insanity, the goblins shrieking loudly, overcome by fear and ran in wild panic stampeding above themselves as they ran straight at the exit.

Of course, the puppet gave chase, spinning around unnaturally, it slashed through the back of a nearby goblin tearing through its back and sprinkling blood all over its face.

And then it jumped, practically flying just to land in front of another panicked group.

Whoosh!

Blood flew through the air as bodies fell. The more goblins died, the more the shrieks of the survivors and the harder they pushed to get out of the room.

They did not even bother to fight back, instead overcome by fear they only sought the preservation of their lives.

Ark stared at the entire situation with wide eyes.

"I didn’t expect it to go this well..."

Their aim was just to distract them, he never expected it to have such an excellent effect.

Beside him, Kiera paid complete attention to the floor below. Her face was stoic, even as she reaped life after life below them.

"It’s my turn I guess."

Ark Jumped right through the window, landing down next to the three girls below.

One of the girls almost screamed, trembling visibly just as he landed, but managed to restrain herself when she saw that he was human.

The relief was evident in their eyes as they realised he must be here to help them— but that relief immediately disappeared the moment he pulled out his dagger.

"It’s for them not for you," Ark sharply whispered, pointing at the goblins.

Two of the girls nodded fervently, doing their best to hide their discomfort.

Ark glanced around the room, ready to cut down any goblin that would approach him but it seemed they were far too interested in fleeing than fighting.

With a single slash, Ark cut through the ropes that kept them bound and began to unwind the material around his body.

"W-who are you?" One of the girls asked, looking slightly wary of him.

The star shaped mark on her forehead was the first thing Ark noticed.

"You are a curse bearer?"

The girl shook her head.

"I haven’t awakened."

Ark nodded and handed them the rope he had fashioned from curtains.

"All of you hold onto this." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

The girl’s friends immediately grabbed onto the rope, their terrified expressions locked on the stampeding goblins around them but the marked girl looked at the rope and frowned.

"I’m not going anywhere with a stranger."

Ark raised a brow.

"Are you serious right now?" He asked in a hushed tone, and yet the girl didn’t budge.

Just then, one of the panicking goblins ran into her, slamming against her back and falling to the floor.

Shaking its bald head, the goblin stood up, its eyes locking on the girl and its hand reaching for its sword.

The previously adamant girl yelped and ran toward Ark, clinging onto his shoulders and peaking at the beast from behind him.

The goblin pulled out its sword, forgetting its earlier panic and lunged at them but Ark intercepted it, delivering a kick to its gut and splitting its neck wide open.

"Grab the rope, now!"

This time the girl did not resist, she hurriedly took the rope in her hands and then Ark held the piece of wood attached to it and tossed it high up into the air.

Instead of falling back down, the wood froze mid-air and the rope grew taut.

’She said she can easily lift three people as long as she doesn’t have to directly use her curse on them...’

"Let’s just hope this works."

Ark grabbed onto the other end of the rope as well just as the wood in the sky began to move, flying up into the air and carrying the four of them along with it.

Everything was going according to plan, the goblins were far too busy trying to escape to notice them, making it possible for them to slip away completely undetected.

Soon they were all lifted high in the air, swiftly moving towards the ceiling. In a few seconds, they would be out of the roof and then they would take the helicopter back to base.

Tzzzzzz

Ark heard the sound of crackling lightning and turned just in time to see the goblin king staring up at them. It had a visible scowl on its face as its staff pulsed with lightning, the currents dancing along the staff and leaving scorch marks on the ground below.

"It c-can control lighting?!" One of the girls asked, panic creeping into her voice.

Another one of the girls was already crying as though she had accepted her fate, while the marked girl and a look of worry on her face.

"Damn it!"

Golden sparks began to form around Ark as the goblin lifted its staff, pointing it right at them.

Btzzzzz!

Blueish white lightning shot out of the staff and blasted forward, charging at the group. At the same time, Ark tossed his axe right at the lightning bolt.

Boom!

The axe was violently flung to the side as the lighting collided with it, but it had done this job, barely managing to redirect the lighting from them.

Kiera was staring at them from above, putting more effort into pulling them up faster but Ark glanced at the goblin king and back at them.

Kiera’s eyes widened slightly, "Don’t you dare!"

But Ark had already let go of the rope, plummeting to the ground below.
