Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 87: Playing Hero in the Face of Danger
’Damn, When did I start playing the hero?’ Ark wondered as he stared at the tiny king goblin.
The reason behind his decision to jump was quite simple...
There was no way they could all escape, Kiera was doing her best to pull them faster but between that and concentrating on the puppet, her attention was divided making it more difficult.
If Ark did not come down to distract the goblin king then they would have all been taken down with a single blast.
He had been lucky enough to barely deflect the first time, and that was definitely not the vermin’s full strength.
Still, this was not the main reason behind his decision. Instead, it was their means of transportation that bothered him, helicopters were like baby birds in the air— completely useless when it came to defending themselves.
What would happen if the goblin was to focus his attention on the helicopter while they were retreating?
And yet Kiera was not the least bit happy with it:
"What do you think you’re doing?!"
Ark sighed.
"We will be sitting ducks in that helicopter if someone doesn’t handle this guy, and we can’t take the cars since the swarm has most likely gotten to it."
The goblin king’s staff pulsed once again as it took a step forward and lifted its staff high up.
Whoosh!
Ark flung his dagger right at the goblin, activating the rebound ability of the dagger. The dagger cut through the air moving straight at the goblin when lighting suddenly surged forward, knocking the dagger to the floor.
The goblin turned its attention away from the girls and back at him.
Tzzzzzz!
Ark darted to the side as lightning whistled past his ear, causing a tingling feeling to spread through his body.
He held his axe firmly and dashed forward, closing the distance between them in seconds.
Just as he got within striking range, Ark swung his axe right at the goblin’s head but the beast suddenly disappeared, its body blurred and it appeared a few feet away.
Ark’s axe met open air and he almost lost his footing due to his momentum.
He paused and stared at the tiny beast, he knew goblins were fast... but this was just absurd.
The tiny goblin cracked its neck and smirked but before it could move Ark heard a voice screaming at him from above.
"The girls are safe up here, I’m coming down to join you."
"No!" Ark replied as he dismissed his axe, summoning his dagger instead.
All the goblins had fled the hall already so there was no further need for the puppet, but there was no telling when or if they would return.
If they were to return while they were still here then they would doom not just themselves but the girl as well.
It would have been a different situation if the girls were not here, they could have both escaped the goblins with some difficulty, but that was not the case, right now they had people relying on them.
"We’ll be in trouble if they come back, trust me, I’ll meet you guys back at camp."
Kiera was smart, Ark suspected she already knew how risky the situation was. There was a brief moment of silence and then Ark heard something whistle through the air.
Clang!
Cutting through the air and burrowing deep into the ground was the black sword Kiera had won from the selection exams, but right now, it was different.
The blade pulsed with innate energy, giving off a crimson aura that coiled around the blade.
He stared up to see the girls up on the roof with Kiera. Her gaze was as all of as ever as she rose to her feet, finally letting go of her hold on the puppet.
"Don’t die."
That was what she said before she turned and left, as they made their way to the helicopter.
Some distance away from him, the goblin king stared at him with an expression that could only be described as boredom.
It motioned at the sword as if begging Ark to take it, its staff lying loosely on its shoulders.
He flung his dagger forward once more as he stepped forward. The goblin easily dodged the attack, watching him with contempt.
The gaze of a king staring down at a peasant...
Ark placed his hand on the hilt of the blade and then he felt it, an intense amount of energy surging through his veins with each passing second.
His hands trembled as the aura flowed into him, his golden eyes took a slightly red tint and his muscles felt on fire.
But that was not all—
Accompanying this energy was what sounded like hundreds of screams, each one threatening to pull him closer to madness, to the void in which they belonged.
They were the voices of countless beasts, each one slain by way of this blade.
’An enchantment?’
Ark tried to ignore the voices and focus on the beast in front of him. It was the only beast he wanted to hear scream...
"Here we go.."
Voooom!!
Ark shot forward his body a blur of motion as he appeared right in front of the goblin, the goblin’s eyes widened slightly at the shocking boost in speed and yet it did not falter, instead, it met Ark’s strike with one of its own.
Clang!
Sword met staff as both weapons collided, they both pushed against each other before disengaging only to lunge once again.
Ark struck forward, nearly tearing through the goblin’s ear, but the beast was still faster than him, it slid back, completely avoiding the blade and then appeared right in front of him a second later.
Boom!
The wood collided against Ark’s leg, causing him to buckle and then the goblin rose the staff once more to smash it against his head when Ark swung his sword.
His sword cut right through the goblin’s chest, albeit narrowly, far from being deep enough to be fatal.
The goblin let out a shrill and then dashed backward, clutching its chest.
An angry yellow eye was fixed on him and then the staff began to glow.
Just as Ark began to hear the blades of the helicopter whirl above them, the thundering of lightning filled his ears as well.
Lightning danced in the goblin’s vision as it pointed its staff forward, its lips curled up in a smirk.
"Tifa."
