Chapter 93: An Unknown Variable

If there was one thing that could explain what was happening to Ark, it would be either Silver or the god-Console.

He had been so preoccupied that he had completely forgotten to check it after waking up on the streets.

"Maybe the go—archive... maybe the archive will explain what is going on."

Kiera nodded.

"You think it is a new ability?"

Then she shook her head lightly.

"No, that won’t make sense, we know how to use every ability we have from the moment we get them. It has to be something else..."

What she said was true, although rare, it wasn’t strange for Curse bearers to gain new abilities, something like sub curses...

But these abilities always came with knowledge of how to use them. Even with Ark’s strange circumstances, he still knew how to control each ability he revived, the second form of dragon strike being a prime example.

And yet, he could not rule it off.

If there was one thing that never failed to surprise him, it was his life in the past few months. So many weird things had happened, up to the point that normally strange things seemed perfectly fine to him.

Ark began to write on the paper, replying to Kiera’s initial question.

"I won’t know until I check."

Ark summoned the console, but before he could even take a proper glimpse at it, he was suddenly overcome by an intense drowsiness.

He quickly scribbled down a few words, his handwriting messy as he did.

"I don’t feel so good..."

"What do you mean?" Kiera asked, slight worry finding its way into her voice.

The skeleton suddenly collapsed to a pile of bones before he spoke.

"I feel... Tired."

The location suddenly shifted. Ark felt like his soul was suddenly pulled violently, turning formless for a second before suddenly regaining shape.

And that voice...

It was his— his actual voice, not a voice in his head.

"I see you’re finally back."

Ark sheepishly turned to the woman who was sitting beside him, his side was pressed against hers due to having to share one chair together.

Thalia smiled and turned to the entrance of the vehicle, just as someone dragged the doors open.

But once Kiera entered the room, Ark was already fast asleep.

***

Ark ended up sleeping for a few hours only to wake up on a small bed he didn’t know the vehicle had. When he woke up, that feeling of tiredness he felt was long gone and he felt well rested, meaning he had slept for some time.

His hands also felt strangely soft, it was then Ark realized that he was finally back in his original body.

Everyone was in the vehicle, but the three girls they had rescued were absent, leaving only the original members of the squad around.

Even Vivian was present, most likely done with healing the injured soldiers.

Ark summoned his console.

’77 more points...’

He was only 77 points away from finally unlocking a new class, and considering how much fighting was bound to happen during this apocalypse, he was definitely going to unlock the class before the end of it.

But that was not the only thing he saw.

"Pendant of Ashkew?"

Ark couldn’t not remember ever getting an artifact by that name, or even getting an artifact at all. He mentally tapped the artifact and a new tab appeared.

[Artifact: Pendant of Ashkew] 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

[Rank: Rank 2]

[Charge: 0/50]

Ark slowly nodded, a pleasant smile appearing on his face. ’The goblin king huh?’

Since it had to do with electricity, it had to be from the little guy. Ark almost winced when he remembered how much he had suffered at its hands.

His then eyes strolled down to the next obvious change. The counter for the second form of dragon strike was steadily filling up.

Although it had a far higher counter than that of the first form, it was relatively easy to use, so it should take about the same amount of time to fill.

And then finally Ark’s gaze landed on the most alarming change of them all, something that had not even been there from the start.

[Aslarian Contract - Active]

’Aslarian contract?’

Ark was sure that this so-called contract was the reason why he had been able to inhabit the body of a beast, all while leaving his own body to wander.

But as to how he had obtained this contract... Ark had no idea.

It obviously wasn’t a new class since Ark could still see the class counter at the top of the screen, at the same time it was not an artifact.

What then was it? And how had he come to obtain one?

Ark tried to mentally open the tab but nothing happened. He clicked it with his finger but the results were the same, nothing—

He took a moment to go through everything that happened in the last twenty four hours, trying to figure out what had happened but nothing came to mind...

Nothing save for the void that remained in his head, blocking out a critical part of his memory.

That lapse in his memory most likely contained details about how he had obtained this contract as well as how he had gotten back to the camp completely unharmed.

As Ark continued to ponder on these events, he realized that there was only one person who would have an answer for him.

Someone who had been there the entire time and had most likely witnessed everything that happened.

That person was Silver, but before Ark could summon her, Thalia realized that he was awake and called him to join them.

In front of her, was a large digital screen with four glowing portions on the map of the city.

Thalia took a deep breath.

"The second wave is approaching, it’s time you went to your posts..."
