Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 99: Rain Walk
"Something is wrong with this place," Emma said as she arranged her shirt.
She had noticed it from the moment she stepped into the building— no, it was long before that.
’It was the walls.’
She had noticed it the moment she stepped close to the walls. Something was dreadfully wrong with them, but she was not sure what.
"I hear whispers..."
Ark seems even more confused by her words, he cocked his head lightly, his hand on his chin as he went over her words.
"Whispers?"
Emma nodded. Because she was blind, her other senses had been improved to an impressive degree but it wasn’t because of them that she could detect those sounds.
Rather it was because of her curse—
"The correct way to say it would be ’I feel them..."
It was confusing but that was the best way she could say it.
"My curse allows me to detect vibrations around me, that is how I’m able to move around well enough and tell people apart, although it is not effective for all types of materials it works well enough."
Ark was absorbing everything she said while staring at her intently.
"The vibrations in this place are weird, everything gives off its own vibration and yet this is different. It almost feels... artificial."
Ark ran a hand through his hair.
"Why do things always have to be so complicated? Alright, I’ll leave so that you can take your shower."
He paused and seemed to go over something for some time.
"I know you are smart enough to know not to tell anyone so I don’t have to tell you that..."
Emma frowned slightly.
"But you just basically did."
"I did? Oh, I guess I did."
She sighed.
Ark was always like this, sometimes he seemed incredibly smart while other times he was the picture perfect definition of an airhead...
He turned to leave before finally saying:
"We’ll take our time to study those around us first, know who to trust and then we’ll investigate."

By the time evening came, the blood moon had passed, revealing the sky above for the first time in a while.
The red moon’s visage could still be visibly seen in the sky but this time it no longer painted the world red.
According to Thalia, it would return once the second wave approaches, but Ark was okay with the temporary relief.
It was evening time, and so Ark decided to take a walk around the facility.
So far, apart from a few beasts that were easily taken down by the torrents, there had been no major monster attacks on the shelter.
The gaping hole on the wall was already under construction, and there was increased security in that area, along with one of the military curse bearers just in case there was something they just couldn’t handle.
Ark had not slept or even had his bath since the journey to the facility and yet he decided to leave them for later.
What Emma had told him was indeed concerning— he was not going to investigate it privately, he meant what he told Emma after all.
What he was going to do was take a look at the people living here. There were a lot of things that one could find out just from the way people lived.
His trek had been pleasant, up until a red bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, and shortly after, the rain began to pour incessantly.
Ark continued to walk underneath the rain without a care in the world. His body was sore from the journey and the raindrops felt like heaven against his skin.
Back in the slums, the rain was his therapist as well as his personal masseuse. You would be amazed by how therapeutic a good soak could feel.
He dismissed the armour to slow the rain free entry then his eyes slowly widened in shock.
"Damn!"
He quickly hurried over to one of the shielded walkways that led to residential Centers.
His plan was to speak to the people living here, how would he do that if they saw him soaking in the rain like a lunatic?
Underneath the shade, he tried to wring his hair and then his clothes but it was inefficient. The only way he could do it was by taking off his shirt which might only make him look crazy.
But looking completely wet was worse...
And so Ark took off his shirt and began to squeeze it when he heard a tiny voice from behind him.
"Uncle is a perv."
Ark’s face turned pale white as a feeling of dread washed over him. He turned around to see a small child watching him with curious eyes.
Initially, Ark froze, unsure of what to say. What if the child was to tell his mom that a dark haired boy with golden eyes was taking off his shirt in front of the shelter?
Parents often had the habit of misinterpreting what their children said...
The rumor would spread fast and the damage to his reputation would be catastrophic.
Ark gulped.
"Uncle is not a perv okay?" Ark pulled out his most polite smile. "He’s just trying to dry his—"
"Perv perv perv!!!"
Ark’s heart sank when the child screamed and began to run towards the building.
Of course he gave chase...
Holding his wet shirt in his hands and basically half naked, he chased after the child to correct his mistake.
A comical sight...
He was just seconds away from grabbing onto his shirt when he heard a bone chilling scream.
A scream so loud that it could be heard over the beating rain.
Ark diverted, leaving the child alone and running towards the direction of the sound.
He heard different whispers as he pushed people past him and bolted toward the voice, until he finally arrived at a gathering.
Many people were huddling around a woman who was kneeling down, in tears.
Ark pushed the people apart and walked towards her. She was trembling and her hands were writhed around herself as she stared at the ground, speaking inaudible words.
When he finally got close enough to her, he grabbed her shoulder causing her to flinch in his grasp.
Ark gingerly lifted her head to face him. "It’s okay, I’m a curse bearer, what happened?"
The woman’s eyes went wide with fear as she remembered the events that had just unfolded, her lips parted and she whispered in a trembling voice.
"Ghost."
