Chapter 106: Love Turned Monster

Explosions rang out in quick succession as Melruen unleashed hell on the Demons.

Demon Grunts, Knights and Mages were eradicated en masse, dying faster than they were created.

Melruen’s speed was blurring, his strength overwhelming, and his tactics chilling to observe.

He ignored the toll on his body. He simply killed, and killed, and killed.

However, no matter how much blood of the Demons he spilled... Emily—the love of his life—was dead.

The thought, fleeting and destructive, attacked his psyche, and it only made his mind sink further into a berserk state.

His body was nearing its limits, but who cared? He could just increase the Quality of his body and produce more power than he would have been able to handle.

He had been stuck at a tight bottleneck for a long time, unable to progress in the mastery of his Ability. He had thought that if he stayed with Emily and fought by her side, he would be enlightened to some things and break past his limit.

Ironically, it was her death that had made him shatter that bottleneck and unlock new powers of his Ability.

Emily’s face flashed in his mind, and he lagged for a second.

A smile crept up his face, hidden behind the blood and tears rolling down it. But as soon as the smile appeared, it vanished, his face twisting into a scowl.

A deep frown marred his visage, his brows wrinkling into sharp angry lines as his jaw set, his teeth grinding audibly.

His Ability washed over his body, and in an instant, his injuries vanished, replaced by a body pulsating with raw energy and vitality.

"Amplify!" Melruen’s voice tore through the air, spreading through the surrounding kilometers.

Responding to his words his muscles bulged, swelling beneath his skin like a beasts and stretching his skin, splintering it at some places.

"Amplify!" His voice came again, and the muscles in his lower body responded, growing also and tearing his clothing off.

"AMPLIFY!" Again, he said, and the regenerative properties of his body skyrocketed, stitching his torn skin and cooling his heated body.

"...amplify," this time, his words came out smoothly, almost inaudible even. But the changes were the greatest as his mind sharpened, entering a state that expelled all forms of distracting thoughts.

Only the image of Emily was left in his mind, fueling his anger.

BANG!

Melruen vanished, the ground where he stood on earlier shattering like thin glass hit by a bowling ball.

The avalanche of attacks, just moments away from hitting him, landed with a thunderous impact, creating a beautiful, yet deadly, picturesque.

The area of impact was cleared, denuded of trees. The battle wasn’t so simple anymore, as most of the Demons had focused their attacks on him.

However, now that he had done something unusual, boosting his physical prowess and healing properties to shocking degrees, they couldn’t even see his movements, talk less of attacking him.

WHOOSH!

Wind blew, a large swath of the gathered Demons suddenly exploded, and a sonic boom echoed, announcing the attack after it had already done damage.

A Demon standing far behind, clad in a suit of black armor, stood without fear on the head of a grotesque beast.

Two of its four arms were folded, while the other two held the hilt of a gigantic Great Sword plunged into the ground.

One could only imagine how large the sword must have been for it to be plunged into the ground, yet the wielder still held it while standing atop a beast twice its size.

The Demon General stared at the destruction unfolding in the jungle ahead. Its eyes followed the individual killing its Demon soldiers like flies, and an annoyed grunt rang out from its bucket helmet.

"Weak!"

No sooner had it spoken these words when Melruen landed before it with a reverberating bang, the soil compressing beneath his might.

He stood to his full height, letting his body be revealed in all its glory.

Melruen was covered in the putrid blood of his enemies, but all his attention was on the Demon standing before him.

Not even his nakedness made him falter.

Melruen could feel it. The energy coming from the Demon was stronger, thicker, and more overbearing.

And the same could be said for the figure by his side.

His gaze shifted to the side, and he stared at the Demoness standing right by the Demon General.

The Demoness retained the looks she had as a human, with only a few changes made to her body by her transformation.

No longer was she the beautiful, playful girl Melruen once knew. Emily was now a Demoness, radiating a chilling aura of death and decay.

Her head was crowned with two short, curved horns, and her body was as pale as a sheet of paper, all the blood seemingly concentrated in her lips, giving it a bright red shade.

A sultry smile played on her lips as the whip in her left hand cracked through the air, her right hand resting confidently on her curvaceous hip.

Her body seemed to have gotten more enchanting, becoming more tempting and enticing.

Her actions just made the temptations stronger, almost drawing Melruen in, but the revulsion of her change calmed any tempting thoughts.

"Killing her wasn’t enough for you... so you turned her body into a tool for your usage," Melruen uttered in a deep, hoarse voice, shifting his gaze back to the Demon General.

The Demon General cocked his head to the side, staring at Melruen with indifference.

"Hmm... Lilith?" The Demon General said, and the Demon-turned-Emily threw him a slutty look, sizing him up as if she would undress and bed him at that moment.

She opened her mouth to speak, but before any words could come out of her mouth, the Demon General interrupted.

"...Kill this Human."

Without hesitating for a moment, Emily, or rather, Lilith’s hand suddenly moved, and her whip lashed out, slicing through the air towards Melruen’s naked body, aiming low to with cruel precision.

Melruen didn’t react as violently as one might expect. But his next actions were still shocking.

His hands moved just as fast as Lilith’s—faster even—grabbing the thorny whip out of the air and letting it wrap around his forearm.

The thorns dug into his skin, wounding him and drawing blood. However, the wounds healed almost instantly, holding onto the whip in a tight lock.

Melruen pulled, dragging the Demoness towards him as he reeled his arm back like a cocked canon.

"Amplify," the words flowed out of his mouth, boosting the sturdiness, rigidity and strength of his arched arm. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The air distorted as he cocked his fist, and then parted as it shot forward, connecting with the face of the shocked Demoness.

She hadn’t expected such a maneuver, believing Melruen would have rather dodge.

Unfortunately, that became her undoing as Melruen’s fist struck true, landing so hard on her face that her nose broke, fragments of bone shooting into her brain and turning it into mush within her head.

His fist continued on, caving her head in and exploding it into a bloody mist, letting her body fall to the ground.
