Chapter 28: A Dance with the Shadow Dragon

The smile on Damion’s face failed to move the gang members before him. But it did have some effect, albeit little.

They activated their abilities, trying to intimidate him, but they were in for a little surprise.

"Jerome was weak, having a transformation Ability," the student at the front having short brown hair began, twirling a stream of water between his fingers. "It couldn’t help him fight better, so you defeated him easily."

As he said this, he began to walk forward. "But we on the other hand, are experienced,"

Damion felt the ground quake slightly, and he reacted in time, jumping just as a hole formed where he stood a second ago, and the student at the front waved his hands and punched out.

A stream of water formed and followed the student’s gesture, tearing a path through the air towards Damion.

Unable to dodge, Damion activated Dragon’s Reflective Skin and Shadow Pulse at the same time.

A shadow rose from the ground and shot towards him, but it was too slow.

He ended up eating the attack straight to his crossed arms, and got blasted back by the strong force.

He crashed through the door he had just come through, and slid across the floor.

Before he could even recover, he saw a dagger coming at his chest, however, Shadow Pulse activated at that moment, and the dagger along with the arm driving it forward got pushed back.

Damion frowned and rolled to his knees, planting a foot firmly on the ground while his other knee remained. It seemed like the medics were done healing his previous attacker, and he had taken the short time between Damion talking to the other gang members to prepare a sneak attack.

Damion wasn’t frowning because of the sneak attack, but because it was only now that he seriously thought about the situation.

"Why are you attacking me?" he asked as he rose to his feets.

The student who attempted to stab him took a step back, his eyes darting towards the other gang members before returning to Damion. "You assaulted and cruelly injured one of our own," he said through gritted teeth.

Damion’s expression turned cold. "If you’re talking about Toby, then he had it coming," Damion responded. "That fool, he thought he had a chance at defeating me and ended up on the receiving end. Don’t blame me for his stupidity."

The brown haired leader of the small team chuckled. "You’re just trying to make yourself look righteous, and even if you’re innocent... An attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us."

Damion sighed. "You’re going to end up like him."

Jerome blasted forward, his dagger flashing forward with precision. Damion’s aura changed, and everything seemed to slow. Krav Maga’s power surged, and Damion moved.

As fluid as water but as sturdy as a rock, he dodged the student’s strike, then using his momentum against him, he lifted Jerome off the ground and flung him towards the other gang members.

The other gang members sucked in a cold breath, their eyes widening in shock.

Unfortunately, the scene Damion expected didn’t occur. Instead of catching their falling member, they outright dodged his body to continue their attacks.

Damion’s eyes narrowed. "Despicable," he muttered.

The student to the left charged up a ball of fire, and without hesitation, he flung it with immense speed, ready to nuke Damion.

Damion balled his fist and punched the fireball, destroying it and causing an explosion.

Smoke quickly filled the area, blocking Damion’s vision.

Dragon’s Authority pressed out, and Damion vaguely ’saw’ the outline of something flying towards him.

He moved aside, evading it, but as if sentient, the water projectile made a curve in the air and came back towards him. Damion tried to dodge again, but he found the ground wrapping up his legs with tough earthen bricks.

He groaned and punched the bricks, but its surface merely shattered before it reformed just as fast.

The water projectile was almost upon him, and the earth trap was holding him down. His fate looked to be sealed, but his face said otherwise.

"Shadow Walk,"

Damion vanished, and the water projectile shaped like a snake crashed on the ground, destroying it and raising another cloud of smoke and dust.

The students became wary and frantically looked around. "Where did he go? They chorused.

From within the dorm, where lots of shadows rested, Damion stood tall, his purple eyes glowing in the dark. He took a step forward, and one of the students shot his head in his direction.

"Found him!" He screamed, alerting the rest as three of the four students began to move to find Damion again.

But despite knowing this, the leader of the team stopped them, an evil smirk spreading across his face. "Let Craig handle it."

Understanding dawned on them and they smiled too, thinking that the situation was handled.

Within the dorm, Damion had appeared far back, away from the chaos of the battle. He hadn’t done so because of fear, but because that was the best place to move towards.

He took a step forward, and his steps suddenly paused. He felt something move in the 25 meters range of Dragon’s Authority, and he suppressed the urge to smile.

He continued forward without stopping, pretending to notice nothing.

Around 10 meters to his back, an invisible student followed Damion silently and slowly, his steps like a predators, calculated meticulously to a fault. He stepped on places he was 100% sure won’t make any noises, and he moved in sync with Damion’s steps to mask any sound his movements might make.

His breath was held, and he only breathed when his lungs were almost burning, and even at that, he breathed slowly.

It was with his cunning mind and great treachery that he ranked up in his gang, becoming a high ranking member, yet, he was still not trusted because he had only joined recently. However, he seeked to prove himself, so he willingly followed when the gang was on a mission, helping out and doing most of the work.

Damion walked out of the dorm again, a relaxed expression plastered on his face as he stared at the four students, his eyes lingering on each of their faces.

"And just when we thought you ran away, you came right back," the leader sneered in disdain. "You think you can defeat us with your weak Ability?"

Damion’s smile remained, unfazed by the taunt. "I don’t think," he said, as a matter of fact. "I know."

Without warning, Damion dropped through his shadow, reappearing two meters behind. His hand shot out, grasping the air before him tightly.

Horror masked the students faces as they saw Craig’s invisibility shatter, and he appeared, his neck in Damion’s hand.

Damion’s grip tightened, and with a swift motion, he brought his free hand down, striking Craig on the temple with a sickening crack, knocking him out.

Dion dropped the body, flexed his arms and asked, "Alright... who’s next?"
