Chapter 47: Shadow Possession

"I don’t know how it got into your hands, because I personally told that moron, to protect it with his life!" Jamie yelled, his expression cracking to reveal unbridled rage. "So give it back!"

Silence.

Damion didn’t speak for a second or two, contemplating his next words. He had suspicions that the Jaws of Ophidia was related to the Green Rose Poison Heart and the Feral Brotherhood gang, and Jamie had just confirmed that they had hands in the origins of the Jaws of Ophidia.

"I can’t," Damion responded, earning him a surprised stare from Jamie.

"You won’t?" Jamie asked with a raised brow and tilted head.

"No, I didn’t say I won’t, but can’t," Damion replied, resisting the urge to call the student an idiot.

The Jaws of Ophidia was stuck to him, unable to be removed for some unknown reason. If he even told the student before him that, what were the odds that he won’t just try to kill Damion and take it off his dead body?

This was a gang leader, he definitely won’t let Matilda go so easily if he got what he wanted, so he had to play his cards right.

Damion gritted his teeth, his anger rising. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, he didn’t know what to do, and on the other... he didn’t know what to do either!

"Prove it," Jamie said, gesturing at Damion to come forward.

Damion hesitated. How sure was he that the second-year before him won’t try something?

’Don’t!’ Damion heard Matilda say, but on second thought, he suddenly shot her a surprised stare and gasped.

’Did she just speak into my mind?’ Damion thought, gobsmacked.

’You heard me?’ Matilda’s voice came again, shocking the duo once more.

Damion calmed himself down. He accepted things the way they were and linked it to the connection he and Matilda had, now was not the time to be wowed by anything.

’Matilda, listen,’ Damion started in a grim tone. ’I will explain everything to you later, so just do as I say.’

Damion went on to explain a quick plan he had just formulated, giving her orders on what to do. At the same time, he walked forward, taking slow and timed steps towards the second-year.

Matilda, though injured, had her eyes closed, but Jamie didn’t notice this. He was focused on the approaching Damion and activated his ability to its fullest, causing his whole body to turn metallic and gain a silver sheen.

Damion suddenly stopped a few steps away from Jamie and said, "Release her first."

Jamie chuckled lightly and shook his head. "Let’s just say you’re actually right, and the mask can’t be taken off, what would I gain if I let her go?"

"I don’t care, you’re going to lose either way," Damion said and immediately dropped through his shadow, rising from another behind Jamie and grabbing the arm holding onto Matilda’s neck.

Jamie didn’t budge an inch when Damion pulled with all his strength, because he appeared to be just as heavy and sturdy as he looked.

A second went by, but nothing happened. The atmosphere turned awkward as Damion stood there, straining his muscles and pulling with all his strength, and although weak, it was just enough to make Jamie’s grip on Matilda loosen just the slightest bit.

"Err... was something supposed to happen," Jamie asked, smiling in amusement at the weird posture he and Damion had taken.

However, at that moment, Matilda’s eyes flashed open, and without warning, she sank into her shadow, slipping from Jamie’s hand.

[New Skill Unlocked]

––––––––––

The Blessing of Knowledge and Luck activated, forcing Damion to understand his new skill before he even checked, and a smile spread across his face.

"Another clue?"

The realization that Matilda had escaped finally set in, and Jamie’s face twisted into a fierce scowl.

"You little runt! You’re dead!" He hollered as sprang up, bashing Damion’s nose with a powerful headbutt and swinging his arms back wildly.

Damion only smiled as his nose bled, he had saved Matilda, and surely she and Kenzo could get away.

"But first," Damion said as his voice turned sinister all of a sudden.

His head, which was shooting backwards from the force of the headbutt, stopped, and jerked back forcefully. The arms of Jamie were stopped by Damion’s, and as Damion’s gaze fell on Jamie, their eyes meeting at a very close range, Jamie shuddered, an unknown and primal fear creeping into him.

Damion smiled, the purple glow in his pupils seemingly intensifying as his sclera turned pitch black.

Small tears appeared in his skin as his hold on Jamie intensified, and black fog began to pour out of those tears.

His eyes lit up with a cold black flame, but the purple glow of his pupils remained, piercing through the flames.

Black fog billowed out of the corners of his mouth with every breath, and black veins popped up in his skin, threatening to tear through them.

His grip tightened more, and Damion subconsciously activated Dragon’s Reflective Skin, holding back a vein that nearly tore through his flesh.

Jamie began to feel weak in his knees the more he stared into Damion’s eyes. Even after realizing the cause of the primal fear, he couldn’t look away.

"How does it feel to be overpowered?" Damion asked in a deep rumbling voice, his voice spreading out and reverberating in the ears of everyone. "How do, YOU, feel?"

Jamie trembled, tears pouring out of his eyes as he peed his pants.

Damion smirked and raised his arm. His Tang Dao shot into his hands from the ground, and he waved the sword in an arc, detaching Jamie’s arms with some effort.

Even with his focus taken away, his Ability’s defense was still up.

Damion raised his sword again, and in one smooth motion, cleaved down harder than before and took Jamie’s legs.

Jamie didn’t react to the spike of pain even as Damion dropped his torso to the ground. It was only after Damion broke eye contact that he reacted, screaming so loud he might have even been heard from outside.

Drake’s Sight was activated, and it was done almost immediately with no effort. It seemed the effect of his new skill affected the Bond Skills as well.

A green ring circled his purple pupils, creating a set of beautiful, yet scary, eyes. He peered through the walls, going through several bricks and other obstacles before he could see what was going on outside.

Damion found Kenzo facing three second-years all alone, while Matilda was nowhere to be seen. She had probably mistakenly teleported far away after using her Bond Skill for the first time.

Damion looked down at his feet, and seeing

that his shadow wasn’t there just like the new Skill claimed, his smile widened, and he disappeared.
