Draconic King of Shadows-Chapter 49: Defeat
Damion stared at the behemoth the second-year student had become, and the danger he felt from him multiplied by several-fold.
Ida’s smile widened, literally, his face stretching into a hideous grin that unnerved Damion. However, Damion didn’t have the luxury of complaining as the next second, Ida’s massive arm shot out, expanding as it tore through the air towards him.
The ground under Damion’s feet dented slightly as his calves tensed and bulged. He kicked off it a second later, shooting back as fast as he could as the fist approached.
Damion’s eyes widened in horror as the fist accelerated, but right before the fist hit, a figure appeared and pulled him to the side.
The fist skimmed past his body, tearing his shirt off and bruising his torso heavily. His body turned red immediately, and a few droplets of blood fell.
Damion’s eyes fell on Matilda lying on the floor beside him, and his expression turned darker. Her wounds had worsened.
Damion turned to face the incoming fist again, and in a desperate attempt to save himself and Matilda, he activated Shadow Walk in hopes of taking them both.
Shadow Walk had many liabilities, the first and most glaring of them all was its inability to work if another living being was in contact with him —that was why he had forced Jamie to let go of Matilda in order for her to use the Bond Skill.
There were many other liabilities, but this was the most important at that moment.
Damion believed that since there was a strong connection between himself and Matilda, and she was even able to use Shadow Walk, then there was a small chance that he could take her with himself using Shadow Walk.
But, reality was often disappointing. Damion found himself sinking into his shadow, and happy that it was working, he glanced at Matilda, only to find out that she wasn’t coming with him.
Damion’s face drained of all colors instantly. Adding her injuries to the new one she was about to receive from the large fist...
"She won’t survive," Damion concluded, gasping in horror.
The fist fell like a guillotine, aiming to take her life in one swift motion. The second-year didn’t seem to care if he was attacking Damion or someone else, as long as it was a first-year, he was satisfied.
The wide smile on his face was all Damion needed to know Ida was going for the kill.
Damion panicked, not knowing what to do.
The fist was just inches away from Matilda when suddenly, a white crescent energy collided with it from the side, throwing it off course slightly before shattering.
Ida’s fist deviated to the side, yet, it still landed on Matilda’s lower body, obliterating her left leg and right feet.
Her eyes shot wide open when the pain slammed into her, but she passed out just as fast when it all hit her at once.
Damion sighed deeply, but his gaze flickered, and he traced the direction which the slash had come from. His gaze settled on Kenzo, and his heart rate rose again.
Kenzo was in his slashing stance, with five holes in his legs, his left arm missing and an axe halfway into his torso... He had sacrificed his safety just to save his sister.
Regardless, his eyes were trained on Damion. The hatred and anger in them were very clear, and he appeared to be angry at Damion, very, very angry.
Surprisingly, Damion, the cause of all these, was the only one in one piece. Kenzo was going to collapse soon, the only thing holding him being the student holding onto the axe in his body.
Matilda was out of the fight from the beginning, and had only sustained more deadly injuries.
Things looked to be going sideways, and once again, Damion didn’t know what to do. To make matters worse, his Mana completely depleted, and his new skill, Shadow Possession, was canceled.
"You..." Kenzo’s voice drifted into Damion’s ears. "Betrayer."
Damion furrowed his brows. ’What’s he talking about?’ he thought.
"You.. left my... sister... to save yourself!" Kenzo said again, his voice firmer than before. "You disgust me!"
"I won’t bother explaining myself to you," Damion voiced out, already thinking of what to do. "Now’s not the time to talk."
On cue, a fist appeared before him again, but he wasn’t fortunate enough to dodge and ended up getting slammed real hard.
Damion felt his organs get rearranged in real time, before the crumbling of his bones followed after, then his skin burst apart before he partially exploded in a rain of blood, flesh and bone fragments.
The last thing Damion saw before he plunged into darkness was the System screen, and a pair of glowing green eyes.

Damion shot up from the bed he laid on, moving so fast he practically flew out of the bed and landed on his feet.
The two medics standing close to him fell on their butts, their faces as pale as sheets of paper. One of them immediately got up and ran towards Damion, urging him to lay down back while the other ran out to get something.
Damion looked around confused, before his memories came flooding back into his head and causing a migraine.
"And here I was, thinking I was never going to come back here," Damion thought as he sat down, holding onto his head and sighing. "This damn clinic!"
"So the betrayer is awake?" Damion heard someone say. His anger rose for a split second, before he recognized the voice and calmed down.
"There are some things I’d like to keep a secret, Kenzo, but just know one thing," Damion paused and raised his head, his gaze locking onto Kenzo’s. "I didn’t abandon your sister on purpose."
"Oh, and what proof do you have?!!" Kenzo yelled, a vein popping in his head.
"None, unfortunately," Damion replied, unbothered by Kenzo’s tone. It was his problem to deal with, not his.
Damion looked down at his body. He was still in his ragged military uniform, giving him the looks of a psycho. He didn’t mind that though as he was used to that already. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
He opened the system, and a message popped up in his view. He read the words, expecting rewards, but the moment he was done reading the words on the screen though, he gulped audibly.
"I’m so f**ked," he sighed.
