After demonstrating this, the Priest returned inside the city gate, extended his arms, and took down the burned-out torch from the high wall to replace it with a new one.
Ye Nai saw several burnt-out torch bottoms on the ground and suddenly realized.
She took out her cellphone and quickly noted down the current time to see how long a torch could last.
Then, she put the Priest into the Space.
His usefulness had ended, and it was time for him to rejoin his companions.
Back at the scene, Ye Nai first put away the half-filled canister of unknown powder, then checked the five canisters in the cabinet, all but one of which were full.
Ye Nai was satisfied and collected all four full canisters.
Then, besides the food with expiration dates which she stored in the Space, she stuffed the rest back into various rooms in the city tower.
Returning items to their original places was definitely not an option, spores only take and never return items, so she just stuffed them in there, to be dealt with later.
Afterwards, Ye Nai walked around the base of the wall and clearly observed that the other three city gates and the wall above all had torch holders. The number was not dense, just spaced regularly, and by that time all the torches had burned out and the ashes were cold, but the fog did not cross over the battlements.
It seemed the special powder was effective, and it could maintain its effect for a while after the torches burned out, meaning it was almost time to relight them, or even avoid lighting them at night and just relight in the morning.
“The method is quite simple, it would be nice if there were more of it,” she mused.
“Too bad we can’t communicate, otherwise I would definitely ask how to cross the channel to their world,” she lamented.
Ye Nai scratched her face but wasn’t too regretful. With so many enemies around, there was always a chance of success.
By this time, it was also getting dark. Ye Nai walked down from the city tower, took away the altar, and prepared to bring out the Courtyard House.
But before she could get to the Courtyard House, as soon as the altar entered the Space, several ultra-concentrated ore stones in the Space reacted, causing a familiar space fluctuation.
The one from East Ridge Secret Realm was the first to be entirely depleted, leaving not a speck behind, followed by one of the smaller ones in the Five Bridges Secret Realm, which shrank by half under Ye Nai’s watchful eyes.
When the fluctuations ceased, Ye Nai, with merely a thought, found herself back by the riverside farmlands of the East Ridge Secret Realm.
The East Ridge Secret Realm was also a winter environment, but at least it was dry. Even if it rained or snowed, it could never match the degree of wet and cold in the Sky Smoke Secret Realm.
Now that she was there, Ye Nai didn’t want to go back and endure the damp fog. She set up the Courtyard House in the empty field by the farm, giving herself a two-day break to rest well.
However, she remembered the experimental torch she had lit. Every two hours, she went to check on it, using her cell phone to take a timestamped short video to record how long the torch could burn and how long it could prevent thick fog after burning out.
In her spare time, she also dropped the enemy corpses from the Space onto the ground to count them.
She hadn’t realized until she counted them, but together with the Priest, there were exactly five hundred and one people.
Stacking them up would look quite spectacular, she thought.
Ye Nai put the bodies back into the Space and continued to keep them there.
After recuperating and gathering her energies, Ye Nai returned to the Military Fortress, completely unsurprised to find that the entire open space was shrouded in thick fog. Checking the time on her phone, she roughly estimated that a torch could last for about ten hours, which was perfect for daytime use and not needed at night.
Ye Nai took out a torch she had prepared, lit it, and sprinkled a small pinch of that special powder over it. The fog around her immediately dissipated and did not gather again.
When she released a large amount of spores to search for the next altar, Ye Nai discovered that her spiritual power had strengthened.
The spores used to find altars previously could only relay one specific location at a time, but this time, she found she could “see” the feedback of several locations at once.
That is, wherever she casually glanced in one direction, in the straight-line distance of this direction, tiny light spots representing altars would appear in her mind.
Different directions showed different numbers of little light spots.
If she changed direction, the previously seen little light spots would disappear, and she needed to turn her gaze back to “see” them again.
It was as if the map of the Sky Smoke Secret Realm had already formed in her mind, just not fully acquired yet, so she couldn’t see a spinning miniature map like that of the East Ridge Secret Realm.
The advantage was, as long as she could sustain releasing a large amount of spores continuously, in theory, she could reveal all altars in the Secret Realm at once, without having to spend months in this damp and chilly place, and could move on to the next Secret Realm after finishing her work.
Ye Nai tested it out, and the practical scope of this theory was quite narrow; everything followed her “line of sight.” How much she could “see” determined how much she could take at once; what she couldn’t see, she couldn’t take.
Even so, her efficiency had greatly increased compared to the first few days.
Since her spiritual power was primarily used for releasing and controlling spores, once the spores were in place and began working, the rest was up to them, and she could rest.
This way, she could come in the morning and return in the afternoon, completing everything in just four or five days.
After calculating everything in her mind, Ye Nai acted according to plan and, concerned that lack of spiritual power might shorten the “seeing” distance, after collecting several altars, she used Space Teleportation in that direction to search for any that had been missed.
Under her cautious vigilance, she indeed found some that were overlooked, shattering her idea that the tough days would end in four or five days.
Ye Nai wasn’t surprised that the Sky Smoke Secret Realm had more altars than the Five Bridges Secret Realm. A secret realm with such a complex and special environment having more altars for contingency was quite normal; not just this Military Fortress, finding one or two more wouldn’t be weird. Fully utilizing the environment, the enemies capable of planet invasions surely had plenty of resources.
Since she couldn’t leave for another couple of weeks, Ye Nai was no longer in a rush and even pondered whether this secret realm contained any super condensed large ore deposits.
While the spores worked, Ye Nai also didn’t miss the opportunity to hunt, mainly to complete the checklist her mother had given her.
The excavator was still brought out; using the Military Fortress as a base, she dug a deep pit outside the fort, threw down a large amount of fresh Mutant Beast Meat, and it wasn’t long before predators lured by the scent of blood began appearing one after another. However, before they could get close to the edge of the pit, the spores had already taken them.
After a week and a half of diligent work by Ye Nai, only one altar remained in the entire Secret Realm, and the goods list was also completed.
Ye Nai wasted no more time and left the Sky Smoke Secret Realm.
She deliberately left that one altar uncollected as she walked away, to give herself an alibi later.
Not because she overestimated herself, or thought she was too noticeable, but because the higher-ups weren’t fools. If she left and immediately afterward, the Sky Smoke Secret Realm disappeared, anyone with a bit of sense would instantly connect it to the East Ridge, and a quick check on who entered the Sky Smoke would trace it back to her, an East Ridge person.
Once they became suspicious, long-term surveillance would follow, and with so many secret realms across the country that she needed to explore, she couldn’t afford to have eyes on her so soon.
