Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 349: Sweet-talker
Luciana sat on the floor, leaning back on Cardan’s bed as she glanced at the starry sky through the windows.
Her hazy eyes looked into nothingness, her body shivered as she slowly moved.
She hugged her knees. Gradually, her eyes started drooping slowly but suddenly she felt someone’s presence around her.
Luciana sat up straight, immediately on guard as she looked up and found four shadows hovering around her. They were shapeless, faceless but their auras suffocated her. Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath.
’’Who are you?" Luciana raised her hand with utmost difficulty to use her powers but her body did not budge as more and more shadows appeared in the place, towering over her.
Luciana moved back to Cardan’s bed, pressing her back harder against it till her back turned numb.
The shadows did not give her chance to react as they jumped on her and in the next moment, a soul piercing pain shot through her body. It was almost as if someone had crushed her heart or ripped her soul out of her body.
"Ahhhh!" Luciana’s eyes snapped open as she sat up on the bed.
Drenched in cold sweat, she looked around Cardan’s room.
Suddenly, a pair of strong arms held her head and she was pulled into a warm embrace. ’’A nightmare, love?" Cardan’s deep voice entered her ears and the panic in her heart settled down almost immediately, making her blank out for a moment.
Luciana snuggled into his arms, almost on instinct. Various thoughts ran in her mind but her face did did not express even one of them.
’’Will you stay here?" she asked the man softly.
’’What makes you think I would ever leave your side?" Cardan chuckled as he kissed the top of her head.
’’The fact that you wanted to come to this place out of nowhere. Why did you come here? Do you want to stay?" her tone was inquisitive.
Cardan pulled her out of his embrace as he sat on the bed right beside her and her face in his palms. He kissed her lips gently, ’’Do you want me to stay here?"
Luciana frowned without responding to him. What did he want her to say? That she did not want that? But he belonged to this place.
Even though the thought of it made her heart twitch in discomfort.
’’There is nothing in the land of mers that is as important as staying in your lofty position of a heavenly prince.’’
’’There is you,’’ Cardan kissed her forehead, ’’You outweigh every lofty position. Now?"
Luciana’s heart skipped a beat, ’’It does not matter. You do what you feel like doing. If you feel like staying here then stay here. I have nothing to say.’’
’’That hurts,’’ Cardan winced.
Luciana averted her gaze.
’’Fortunately, I have understood how to read your face, Lucy. Your aloof words don’t prick as much now,’’ When she looked at him, he winked.
Luciana looked down at the hands on her lap for a moment before she met his gaze, ’’I want to go back.’’
The smile in Cardan’s eyes did not fade in the slightest, ’’I will take you back. ’’
’’Now,’’ she uttered, moving to get out of the bed.
He pulled her into his arms and carried her before walking towards the door, ’’Now.’’
Luciana glanced at the man, a myriad of emotions intermingling in her chest.
As the door behind them closed, Cardan looked above his shoulder. Through the gap of the door, countless dark shadows were seen occupying the the whole room.
Cardan narrowed his eyes and with slight movement of his lips, he mouthed something. In the next moment, the shadows turned into dust, dispersing into thin air.
Luciana and Cardan entered the portal and appeared in the forest near the crystal castle.
’’Put me down.’’
When Luciana started struggling in his arms, the man reluctantly placed her down.
"Where are you heading off to?" Cardan chased after her as she started walking away from him.
’’To the dungeon.’’
There was a subtle shift in Cardan’s expressions when he heard that, ’’Why?"
Luciana halted in her tracks and turned around to look at him, ’’Do you not know the reason very well?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
His lips parted, ’’Lucy, I...’’
’’Do you know or do you not?" She asked, cutting him off. When he remained standing there, looking at her in silence, she opened her mouth again, ’’All along, you had known what Jeremiah did to my mother. That is the reason why you told His Majesty that you hold a grudge against him and you wanted him to suffer. Rather than killing him, you wanted His Majesty to imprison him in the dungeons of the Crystal Castle.’’
Cardan sighed, reaching out to hold her hand.
Luciana pulled her hand back, ’’I hate it when people keep me in dark. It becomes difficult to trust them again.’’
Cardan glanced at her helplessly, ’’Do you really believe that I intended to keep you in dark. If I had any such intentions, why would I take you to meet Marcus Norwell, despite knowing that he might tell you everything in his muddle-headedness the way he told my guards about it?"
She met his gaze.
He raised his hand and stroked Luciana’s face gently, ’’What do I even get out of it by keeping you in the dark? All I want is to see you shining like the brightest star in the world. Other than that, what ulterior motives can I possibly have? What makes it so difficult for you to even trust me?"
Luciana’s face softened slightly, ’’Stop that.’’
’’What?"
’’The sweet-talking you are doing at the moment. Stop that?"
Cardan chuckled, ’’I mean every word I say, my dear. That’s another thing that you find my words sweet.’’
Luciana rolled her eyes before she turned around and started walking away.
’’Where are you going now?" the man asked, following her without hesitation.
"To find his Majesty.’’
Cardan wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to himself, ’’You don’t have to find him to ask for his permission to visit Jeremiah.’’
She looked up at him in surprise.
’’I have already talked to him before and he knows about this matter.’’
Luciana’s heart warmed.
