Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Sienna, You Have to Put Out the Fire

After leaving the hospital, Silas drove to the home he once shared with Sienna.

Sitting in the study, looking at Sienna’s photo on his phone, his voice was edged with pain he couldn’t hide.

"Sienna, what am I supposed to do? Every day without you feels unbearable—I’m begging you, please just come back, will you?"

He bent his head and kissed Sienna in the photograph; but a tear fell onto her image before he realized it. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

This was the photo he had taken of Sienna before she ran away.

Back then, she had been so gentle and compliant—no matter what he asked, she would agree.

To ease the stress from his work, Sienna even climbed onto his lap and kissed him on her own initiative.

He would never forget that night before his business trip.

He was busy in the study, working, when Sienna suddenly pushed open the door and walked in.

She wore a black camisole nightdress, her hair loosely draped across her shoulders.

On her porcelain-white face was a smile both enchanting and sweet.

She walked over to Silas barefoot, her voice soft and sweet: "Brother, it’s already past eleven—why aren’t you sleeping yet? Staying up late all the time is bad for your health."

Hearing that, and seeing that person, Silas felt all his work thoughts instantly fade away.

He pulled Sienna onto his lap in one swift motion, lowering his head to brush her lips with a kiss.

"Sienna, don’t you know it’s dangerous to tell a man to go to bed?"

Sienna wrapped her arms around his neck, her warm lips grazing his ear.

Her voice, tinged with sweetness: "You’re leaving on a business trip tomorrow. I’m going to miss you."

Feeling her hot breath, her touch, Silas’s whole body grew feverish. He pinched Sienna’s chin, gazing at her with ambiguous eyes.

"Sienna, you started this fire. Now you have to put it out."

As soon as he finished, he pressed his lips to hers, kissing her.

This time, Sienna did not dodge; in fact, she was especially willing.

In the heat of the moment, she even whispered many heartfelt blessings to him.

At the time, he was so relieved—finally, his Sienna wouldn’t run away from him anymore, her heart at last truly his.

But it wasn’t until he returned from his trip and found Sienna gone—nowhere to be found—that Silas finally realized all those words that night had been her last, secret farewell.

She’d already had her plan to escape set in stone.

Looking back now, Silas gently brushed Sienna’s photo with his fingertip.

His voice was hoarse and low to the extreme: "Sienna, you lied to me so cruelly. When I find you, I’m going to bully you until you’re crying and begging for mercy."

He scrolled lightly through his phone, every photo he had of Sienna flashing before him.

He was secretly grateful, thankful that he loved taking her photo; it was only with these pictures that he survived these years.

If not, his longing would have made him ill—a sickness to death.

He stared at a photo of Sienna, taken when she was attending a classmate gathering and Silas secretly snapped a picture as he went to pick her up.

Sienna wore a white dress, her ponytail swinging, looking pure and beautiful.

Her smile was radiant as sunshine.

But as Silas was taking in the photo, he suddenly noticed someone there in the background.

Even though that person was far from Sienna, Silas still recognized her.

It was Chloe Nash.

Why were she and Sienna in the same place?

Was this some coincidence, or was there more to it?

Was this gathering with Chloe Nash, or with other friends? Did they have any ties in the past?

With this suspicion, Silas felt his heart pound faster.

He had to get to the bottom of this lead.

A few days later.

Old Master Prescott’s health indicators were all normal, and he was transferred from the ICU to a regular room.

Lucy Rhodes came to see her grandfather, holding his hand. "Grandpa, please wake up soon and do something about my brother. He’s spent these days drinking all the time, ignoring the company, not even taking care of Julian. All he does is stare at Sienna’s photo. I think he’s lost his mind missing her. Do you think they really were together?

But that can’t be—Sienna and I were so close and I never knew about any of this. How did the Prescott family find out?

You don’t know what awful things they’re saying—they call Sienna shameless, ungrateful, saying the Prescott family raised her and she had the nerve to get in my brother’s bed.

They’re even saying she was underage when she got involved with my brother, that she’s just his serving maid and will never be worthy of the family. I got so mad hearing that, I cursed them out right there.

Even if they really were together, so what? They’re not actually related by blood. Sienna’s so wonderful, I’d be happy if she was my sister-in-law.

It’s just... I didn’t have that good luck. She died out there on the battlefield long ago. I’ll never see her again, even though my brother refuses to believe it."

As Lucy Rhodes spoke, she couldn’t help starting to sob quietly.

Her brother missed Sienna, and so did she.

Sienna had been her companion since childhood, and just like that, vanished without a sound.

How could she possibly not be heartbroken?

But what she didn’t know was that, the whole time, Chloe Nash standing at the door already had eyes full of tears, too.

Her fingers clutching the medical report trembled uncontrollably.

Lucy Rhodes turned around, just in time to see Chloe Nash standing there.

She immediately wiped away her tears, went over and took Chloe’s hand. "Dr. Nash, forgive me for embarrassing myself. I just miss my friend too much, couldn’t hold back my tears. You helped my grandpa so much and I haven’t thanked you properly yet. Are you free tonight? Let me buy you dinner."

Chloe barely resisted the urge to hug Lucy Rhodes. Nodding, she said, "I was just doing my job, Miss Rhodes, there’s no need to be so polite."

"Oh, come on! I promised to treat you after your successful surgery! Are you avoiding me because you don’t like me?"

Faced with her best friend, Chloe couldn’t bear to disappoint her.

So she replied, "I’m free tonight. You can pick the restaurant."

Hearing that, Lucy jumped up excitedly: "Great! Do you like French food? There’s this amazing French place here—can we go there?"

"Sure."

"I’ll book a table right now! They’re so popular, if we’re late there’ll be no seats left!"

After finishing her rounds, Chloe found an excuse to leave the hospital room.

As soon as Lucy saw the door shut, she lowered her voice and said, "Grandpa, what do you think of Dr. Nash? I can’t help but feel my brother treats her differently. Tonight I’m going to try and match them up."

That evening.

Chloe was taken to a French restaurant.

She’d been here before, with Silas—the place where they had their very first date.

That seat by the window—the night fireworks burst in the sky, everyone was watching the display, only Silas was there, holding her tight and kissing her breathless.

Nearly suffocating with his kisses.

It was also that night he’d told her, Sienna, you fell for me first. For the rest of your life, you won’t escape.

Memories swept over Chloe, her fingers curling in on themselves almost reflexively.

The past felt as though it was playing right before her eyes.

Just then, Lucy’s voice pierced the air beside her.

"Bro, you’re early tonight!"

Chloe jerked her head up, meeting Silas’s deep, fathomless gaze.
