Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 34: Lips Pressed Together Without Warning
Chloe Nash arrived at the cemetery and immediately noticed a payment notice placed in front of the tombstone.
Her father’s grave management fee was due.
She set the notice aside and arranged her belongings in front of the tombstone.
Looking at the photos of her grandfather and father, Chloe’s tears couldn’t help but fall.
"Grandpa, Dad, it’s Sienna. I’m sorry I haven’t visited you both for so long, and I’m sorry I’ve come with a stranger’s face to see you.
I used to be in a terrible place and made you worry, but from now on, I won’t. I’ll live happily with this identity as Chloe Nash. I hope you can bless me to be well."
She squatted in front of the tombstone, spoke at length, recounting all her experiences over the years.
She would smile during the good times and cry during the bad.
Unknowingly, a light rain began to fall from the sky. Chloe organized her thoughts, "Grandpa, Dad, I still need to go to the management center to make a payment. I’ll come visit you next time. I’ll leave these things here for you to enjoy slowly."
She stood up, bowed three times toward the tombstone, and then walked toward the management center.
By the time she finished the payment, the drizzling rain had grown denser.
She hadn’t brought an umbrella and was walking briskly toward the parking lot.
It was just as she stepped out not far when she saw someone she couldn’t have been more familiar with approaching.
Silas Prescott, dressed in black, holding a black umbrella in one hand and a bouquet of white chrysanthemums in the other, was standing not far away, staring at her intently.
That scrutinizing gaze felt like a lingering blade to Chloe.
Her back instantly stiffened with fear.
Her eyes became vacant.
She remembered that no one from the Prescott Family was buried in this graveyard, so why was he here?
Could he be here to pay respects to her grandfather and father?
The thought of such a possibility made Chloe’s heart tighten with anxiety.
If Silas Prescott saw the flowers she left there, he would certainly suspect that Sienna Paxton was still alive.
Because aside from Sienna, no one else would visit her grandfather and father’s graves.
The two of them stood looking at each other through the fine veil of rain.
Each had emotions in their eyes that the other could not understand.
Silas took a step towards her and held the umbrella above Chloe’s head, looking at her with deep eyes.
"Dr. Nash, who are you here to pay respects to?"
Chloe tried to keep her breath steady, "A very cherished elder. And what about you, Mr. Prescott?"
Silas’s gaze drifted toward the direction of her grandfather’s tombstone, "I’m here on behalf of Sienna, to visit her grandfather and father."
Hearing this, Chloe’s breath caught.
She hadn’t expected Silas Prescott would do this for her, and for a moment, she was moved.
But that feeling was quickly replaced by panic.
Her instinctive reaction was to stop Silas from going over there.
But she couldn’t find any excuse.
At that moment, Silas placed the umbrella handle in Chloe’s hand, "The roads are slippery in the rain, Dr. Nash. Be careful driving."
After saying that, he walked through the rain towards her grandfather’s tombstone.
Chloe’s position was just a dozen steps away from her grandfather’s tombstone.
As soon as Silas stepped up, he would find out someone had been there.
The truth that Sienna Paxton was still alive would immediately be uncovered by him.
Chloe deliberately let her foot slip and fell down the steps.
In pain, she couldn’t help but cry out.
The cleaning lady hurried over, "Miss, are you hurt? Here, let me help you up."
She was about to reach out to help Chloe when suddenly a tall figure appeared in front of her.
Silas was quicker than the cleaning lady and caught Chloe, looking at her with some concern. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Did you hurt yourself at all?"
Chloe’s eyes were red with pain, "I think I sprained my ankle."
Silas squatted down, his clothes already wet from the rain, clinging tightly to his body, emphasizing his taut muscles.
He gently squeezed Chloe’s ankle, asking softly, "Does it hurt here?"
Chloe inhaled sharply from the pain, "Yes, it hurts."
Silas stood up and handed the bouquet of flowers to the cleaning lady, "Auntie, please help me place this bouquet in front of plot 301 at Elysian Fields Cemetery. I’ll come back later to pay my respects."
He also gave the cleaning lady a little money as a service fee.
Delighted, the cleaning lady took the flowers and left.
Silas picked up the umbrella and placed it in Chloe’s hand, "Hold on to it."
Chloe wasn’t sure what he meant, looking at him with some confusion, "What are you going to do?"
Silas saw her nervous expression and chuckled lightly, "Do you think you can still walk to the parking lot?"
After saying this, he bent down and picked Chloe up, heading towards the parking lot.
Chloe hadn’t expected Silas to do this; she thought he would at most help her walk.
She was completely stunned.
The umbrella in her hand tilted to one side, allowing the fine rain to dampen both of their cheeks.
Several seconds passed before she reacted, struggling to say, "Mr. Prescott, I can walk by myself, please put me down."
Silas glanced at her indifferently, "Doesn’t Dr. Nash know that secondary injuries are worse for bone healing?"
That sentence left Chloe speechless.
She could only cling around Silas’s neck, nervously being held in his embrace.
Silas frowned slightly, "Does Dr. Nash want to get soaked in the rain with me?"
Hearing this, Chloe finally remembered; her umbrella had already tilted.
She quickly raised the umbrella above Silas’s head and asked softly, "Is this okay?"
Silas responded with a faint "Mm."
He carried her back to the car.
He placed Chloe on the back seat and pressed a button.
Chloe knew that the back seat of this car could turn into a big bed, Silas having brought her here many times before.
Thinking of this possibility, Chloe’s first reaction was to escape quickly.
In a moment of desperation, she grabbed Silas’s tie to try to sit up.
Silas, who was already unsteady, was pulled onto Chloe.
Their lips met by surprise.
