Book 6: Chapter 116: An Eerie Strike

Five Deity Lords. A supreme divine artifact. Even for the near-invincible Dragon Eater, it was a situation that guaranteed death. And yet…

“When have you ever seen this queen concede?” Her golden dragon pupils burned like a blazing sun as the Dragon Queen’s declaration of authority resounded across the entire galaxy.

Stars trembled, space quaked.

Everything fell into an eerie stillness, as though all creation and existence had been cowed by the Dragon Queen’s boundlessly arrogant proclamation.

“Worthy of the Dragon Queen.” An equally imposing will descended from the lofty firmament above. “To be unable to witness your splendor at the height of your power is truly a pity for us. But do you truly believe you have even the slightest chance of victory today?”

“And if I have none, so what? Do you think this queen cares?” The Dragon Queen lifted her gaze, staring at the dignified figure crowned with nine layers of regalia at the very apex, and let out a cold laugh.

“So this era’s Supreme Unity turns out to be such a naive being. You think a few glib words are enough to make me admit defeat?”

“I naturally know that you do not care.” Faced with the Dragon Queen’s mockery, the Supreme Unity Deity Lord did not grow angry, his tone remaining calm and even. “But what about your daughter?” 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

“What do you mean?” The Dragon Queen glared furiously, killing intent piercing through the heavens in an instant.

“I have already seen the imagery Thoughtless transmitted earlier, and I can more or less guess your intentions. You seek nothing more than to save your daughter. However, in my view, the power of the Dragon Eater brings only destruction. To use the Dragon Eater’s power to save her is, quite frankly, unwise.”

“Heh. Could it be that you would kindly offer me a way to save her?” the Dragon Queen scoffed in disdain.

“Why not?” The Supreme Unity Deity Lord answered without hesitation.

The Dragon Queen froze. She had never expected that the Supreme Unity Deity Lord, infamous in the Great World for his utter lack of humanity, would truly harbor such a thought.

“Our objective is merely the life of the Dragon Eater, while your daughter is but a pitiable soul trapped within the Dragon Eater’s body. The two appear closely linked, yet they are not truly in conflict. Hand the Dragon Eater over to us, and we will swear an oath to exhaust every means in the Great World to find a suitable body for your daughter and ensure her safety. In this way, both sides are satisfied.”

The Supreme Unity Deity Lord paused, his gaze briefly sweeping past the Sky Ruins Deity Lord. “After all, you are something of a legendary figure in the Great World. If possible, we would rather not fight you to mutual destruction.”

“This…” The Dragon Queen frowned in thought, as though weighing the pros and cons. “I need time to consider.”

“Very well.” The Supreme Unity Deity Lord agreed, then added calmly, “But I know you are stalling for time. Therefore, you have only the time it takes for one stick of incense to burn. After that, regardless of your answer, we will act.”

A small hourglass fell from the heavens, floated in midair, then abruptly flipped over. Golden sand began to flow. The timing of one stick of incense had begun. In truth, it would not even take that long.

Within just a few breaths, the Dragon Queen had already reached her decision. She walked up to the crystalline cocoon, her expression tender as she gently stroked the silken threads, her gaze seeming to pierce through them to the quietly sleeping girl within.

“Lilith… you won’t blame me, will you?” she murmured softly. She then held the great cocoon in her arms, greedily inhaling the lingering scent that belonged to Lilith, clinging to the fleeting warmth of this final moment, brief as a stick of incense.

The five Deity Lords all kept their word, silently waiting as time passed. Then, at last, the golden sand ran dry.

For the Dragon Queen, even this insignificant fragment of fleeting happiness had come to an end.

“Oh, how I hate to part with you.” She sighed softly in regret. Yet when she opened her eyes once more, her majestic golden pupils were filled with unwavering resolve. “I agree,” the Dragon Queen declared to the Supreme Unity Deity Lord.

“Excellent.” The Supreme Unity Deity Lord nodded in satisfaction, while the other Deity Lords could not help but breathe a sigh of relief. After all, unless driven to it, who would willingly fight a mother lion protecting her cub to the death?

Only the Thoughtless Deity Lord frowned slightly, as though unable to comprehend what she was hearing.

“But the separation of Lilith’s soul and body must be carried out by me personally,” the Dragon Queen suddenly added.

“You? Personally lay hands on your daughter?”

“Yes. That’s right. This is my own matter, I’ll handle it myself.” The Dragon Queen lowered her gaze, concealing those majestic eyes. Only an indescribable desolation flowed across the woman who had always stood so proud. “Just think of it as a mother’s final request.”

After a long silence, the Supreme Unity Deity Lord accepted. “Very well.”

Thus, under the unwavering watch of the Five Deity Lords, the Dragon Queen abruptly turned around to face the enormous cocoon that enveloped her daughter.

“Farewell, Lilith.” She spoke softly. And then, vast flames bloomed from her body. They were crimson flames born from the burning of the self. Yet her blood had already been nearly burned away long ago. What, then, was left to burn? Naturally, her very body itself.

The Dragon Queen raised her left arm, now reduced to bare white bone. Upon that seemingly lifeless skeleton, crimson flames raged wildly, as though the bones themselves were being used as firewood. Just as she had done nine million years ago.

And so, boundless power once more returned to her body. She gathered all of that power together and unleashed it in a single strike upon the crystalline cocoon in which Lilith slept.

“This is… she’s serious?”

The observing Deity Lords were all startled by the Dragon Queen’s sudden surge of might. To unleash such overwhelming power at once made it seem less like she was separating her daughter’s body and soul, and more like she was about to kill her with her own hands.

“No!” Only the Thoughtless Deity Lord, who had been deep in contemplation, seemed to realize something. She cried out in alarm, “The Dragon Queen intends to personally kill her own daughter!”

“Isn’t that even better?” The Sky Ruins Deity Lord looked at her in confusion. “If Regalis does it herself, doesn’t that save us quite a bit of trouble?”

“Idiot! If what the Dragon Queen were killing there were anything else, I’d happily watch the show and enjoy myself. But what she’s trying to kill right now… is the damn Dragon Eater!”

“What’s wrong with the Dragon Eater?” Sky Ruins still failed to understand.

“As expected, love really does make people stupid. Even Deity Lords aren’t exempt.” The Thoughtless Deity Lord looked at him with pity, grinding her teeth as she said, “Have you forgotten? The Dragon Eater— cannot be killed!”

That’s right. The Dragon Eater could not be killed. This was a truth discovered through the sacrifice of countless lives nine million years ago. As long as black flames supplied her with energy, the Dragon Eater could revive without limit.

And in the Great World, the only method capable of defeating the Dragon Eater was to use a supreme divine artifact to sever her body from her soul.

Only when she lacked a soul to command her and could no longer replenish energy through black flames could the Dragon Eater’s physical body be slowly worn away over endless time.

Therefore, for the Dragon Queen to attempt to kill the Dragon Eater was nothing short of absurd. Yet she did so anyway, right before the eyes of the Five Deity Lords, unleashing her full power to annihilate the Dragon Eater.
