Book 6: Chapter 117: An Unexpected Turn

“Unless she intended to…” Thoughtless Deity Lord clenched her teeth. At this point, there was no time left to think things through. In truth, the moment she had grasped most of the key points, she had already acted.

“Without Thought, without Mind, without Comprehension, without Attainment!” She extended a finger and lightly pointed. “Thoughtless Domain!”

A voidlike shadow spread outward from the tip of the Thoughtless Deity Lord’s finger, its speed inconceivably fast. In a single instant, it enveloped tens of thousands of kilometers of empty space, constructing an illusory projection of a hypothetical world.

Among the Five Deity Lords, the one bearing the title “Thoughtless” might not have possessed the greatest raw combat power, but her methods were by far the most bizarre and unpredictable.

Within this illusory world projection, even the Dragon Queen could not escape its influence. It was as if all thoughts were being stripped away by some uncanny force, leaving her mind blank for a fleeting instant.

But a fleeting instant was already enough.

“Dragon Queen!” From the boundless firmament came the furious roar of the deceived Supreme Unity Deity Lord. “You! You rejected leniency and left me no choice. Foolish arrogance!”

The great sun rose. Limitless heat rapidly converged and, under the will of the Supreme Unity Deity Lord, condensed into a colossal crimson finger. The enormous red finger pressed down violently, like an ordinary person dipping a finger into a bowl of clear water, and in that instant, monstrous waves surged skyward.

The dark void of space was flooded with blinding light and searing heat, visibly beginning to twist and distort. Beneath the supreme law that embodied extreme heat, all that still existed would be melted into nothingness.

Yet the Dragon Queen merely lifted her eyes and sneered. “Against me, you only extend a single finger? I wonder who the truly arrogant one is.”

Then, the Dragon Queen suddenly twisted her power. Terrifying fist intent crashed into a bronze longsword that had struck at her back from some unknown moment.

The ancient bronze longsword trembled violently as chaotic energy roared forth, yet it still could not fully dissipate the dreadful might carried within the Dragon Queen’s punch.

A thin crack burst forth along the blade.

“After all this time, Sky Ruins, you still only know how to launch sneak attacks?” the Dragon Queen mocked aloud.

“It can’t be helped. When one grows old, one’s courage naturally shrinks a little.” Even so, as he looked at the crack on the bronze longsword, Sky Ruins Deity Lord felt such pain in his heart that he nearly spat blood.

“And yet, Dragon Queen, did you truly ignore Supreme Unity’s strike just now?” Sky Ruins sighed. “His temperament may indeed be irritating, but no matter what, he is still the strongest among us.”

“Who said that?” The Dragon Queen smiled playfully. “Didn’t this queen already block it?”

Then, before the stunned gazes of all the Deity Lords, the Dragon Queen guided the great cocoon that enveloped her daughter, drawing it directly into the path of Supreme Unity’s terrifying attack.

“In truth, it doesn’t matter who delivers this blow,” the Dragon Queen said softly.

That’s right. As long as the end result was Lilith being “killed,” who carried out the killing was never important.

“Despicable!” From the heavens came Supreme Unity’s furious shout, humiliated again and again until he was nearly coughing up blood in rage. Yet he had no choice. At the critical moment, he forcibly dispersed the massive crimson finger.

The backlash from actively withdrawing his power still left him far from unscathed. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

“Many thanks.” The Dragon Queen offered her *sincere* gratitude. Using such petty tricks was not her usual style, but for Lilith’s sake, she had no choice but to resort to any means necessary.

Then the Dragon Queen gathered her strength once more and smashed it toward the great cocoon.

“Let there be light!” Another supreme decree of law resounded from the heavens. The Luminous Deity Lord. God said: let there be light. And so, light descended.

Boundless radiance engulfed the Dragon Queen’s vision and perception. The great cocoon that had been right before her moments ago now seemed to have vanished completely.

Countless voices of hymn rose from the depths of the light, carrying endless sacred purity that swept away all filth.

Under those hymns, the Dragon Queen’s agitated and furious heart gradually calmed, as if merely listening forever would usher in eternal peace.

“Peace my a̲s̲s̲!” The Dragon Queen cursed crudely, a rare outburst. Accompanied by flames even fiercer than the light itself, she used her bloodstained fingers to tear the radiance apart like ripping a sheet of white paper.

The great cocoon reappeared before her eyes. The Dragon Queen gathered her power once more and unleashed a full-force strike. Yet as if tripped by something unseen, she suddenly staggered, and that punch unexpectedly struck nothing at all.

It was difficult to imagine that this could be a mistake made by the Dragon Queen.

“Dragon Queen, give it up.” The Luminous Deity Lord offered a pitying admonition. “Burning yourself like this, how long do you think you can last? Right now, you are probably struggling even to stand.”

“None of your business!” The Dragon Queen clenched her teeth and forcibly steadied herself. A fierce wave of exhaustion surged through her again and again. She felt that the moment she relaxed even slightly, she would collapse completely. But she could not fall. At least not now.

She looked at her left arm, which had nearly vanished entirely, and roared like a wounded beast, “It’s just an arm. So what? I still have legs. I still have flesh, blood, and organs. And you think I’ll give up over this? Aren’t you all being far too optimistic!”

Even fiercer flames surged upward once more.

“Is that so? Then there is no helping it.”

The Supreme Unity Deity Lord calmed himself and pronounced his merciless judgment, “Since you cannot be made to abandon this, then the source that allows you to persist must be erased. Infinite Trials, Luminous, follow me in activating the supreme divine artifact. Before the Dragon Queen achieves her goal, we will destroy the Dragon Eater’s soul first!”

“Very well.” With a soft sigh, the black mass beyond the galaxies suddenly began to flow.

It twisted and coiled, ignoring space and distance, like a colossal python, coiling across the firmament. Then crimson spider lilies bloomed one after another. Along the riverbank, following a road paved with withered bones, they spread toward the girl within the cocoon.

That road of bones and those spider lilies were both voidborn existences, immune to interference by any force. Yet once they bloomed upon the Dragon Eater’s body, her soul would inevitably be ferried away.

The Dragon Queen knew this as well. Thus, she prepared to throw everything away without restraint. Scarlet, blazing firelight erupted from the depths of her eyes. She was about to cast everything into the furnace in a single instant, in exchange for the power to rewrite all outcomes.

But at that very moment, she seemed to hear something, and a strange expression surfaced in her eyes. The firelight dimmed slightly. She still held back, no longer acting without reserve.

Instead, she focused all her attention on the full-force strike she was unleashing at that moment. As if she had abandoned resistance, allowing everything to follow its natural course.

Yet just as that Nether Passage was about to extend into the crystalline cocoon… It veered off.

‘It veered off? What the heck is going on?!’

The Sky Ruins Deity Lord, who had already assumed the situation was settled and had even prepared words to console the Dragon Queen, thought he had seen things wrong. He nearly wanted to gouge out his own eyes.

That was a supreme divine artifact. How could it possibly veer off so easily! While Sky Ruins was still baffled, he realized that everyone was staring at him, their gazes hostile.

“It wasn’t me!” He immediately flew into a rage at this lack of trust, hopping mad as he protested, “I didn’t even manipulate the artifact. How could I possibly affect it? This is inertia, pure inertia!”

That was true. Sky Ruins had not been controlling the Nether Passage at all, so how could he have influenced it? The others also came to their senses, exchanging looks. Could it be that…

“Sigh.”

A long sigh echoed calmly. The Infinite Trials Deity Lord, who had not spoken a single word until now and seemed almost devoid of presence, cast a complicated gaze toward the Dragon Queen and said, “In that case, the debt of gratitude I owed you from more than nine million years ago is now repaid, Master.”

#Author’s Note:#

I almost failed to rein myself in and nearly had the Queen get killed off as well. But she can’t die yet, she’s still an important character later on. After this, there will basically be no more sacrifices. This is a brainpower fantasy novel, after all (wink).
