Flynn prided himself on rationality.

He was always the type to believe that most situations, no matter how dire, should have a solution.

And he believed that if there was no solution, then the odds simply needed to be tipped in his favor.

"[Telekinetic Series: Force Field]"

-Fuaaammm-!

Noticing the sudden spell the youth casted, Rigurd couldn’t help but speak;

"A futile attempt"

His walls of onyx flame were mere inches from consuming the two youths and burning them to ashes in a few seconds.

Added to that, it seemed like both had already realized their inability to cast any spell or weapon art, further making Rigurd’s words definitive.

However, when the Obelisk Arm realized that the translucent aquamarine barrier the youth had casted, not only persisted but seemed completely stable, his stone-cold expression broke, and a frown replaced it.

"I told you, didn’t I?" Flynn calmly stated instead, his tone emotionless as he expanded the translucent barrier, enough that it now housed all three of them.

Rigurd noted how his onyx flames weren’t corroding the youth’s barrier, causing the frown on his face to deepen even further.

"That confidence of yours, we’ll burn it to the ground" Flynn on the other hand, declared with a resolute gaze.

Instantly, the aquamarine barrier, expanded at an alarming rate, enough that it was larger than two standard football pitches put together.

At the exact same time, Rigurd’s wall of onyx flames, vanished into thin air, effectively rendering his spell useless!

But that wasn’t the highlight of Flynn’s counter spell.

No, far from that, what was getting Rigurd on edge was how literally, in his current state, he could feel no mana in his entire being!

It was almost as if everything was sapped out of him the exact moment the youth’s barrier extended over.

Simply put, Rigurd felt like the average human right now…

… and so did Flynn and Aiden.

The spell Flynn had casted, was a culmination of something he had been experimenting on for a long while now.

And it had started on the very first day he had witnessed Derek cast [Sylph’s Playground] at the academy.

Back then, the idea of effectively reducing someone to a plain old human by messing around with the mana in the air was something he had found equal parts nasty yet interesting.

And gradually, due to the nature of his [Force Field] spell, one that required him to control the mana around him with pinpoint accuracy to solidify into a physical manifestation with different properties, made him wonder if he could employ the exact same tactic with the mana within the Force Field.

His ideas had gradually began taking shape when he had started first, with reflecting and amplifying magical beams of attacks if his [Force Field] could withstand it.

Little by little, he gained a deep understanding of the complexities of how that functioned, and soon, realized that he could filter out the mana within his field in a similar fashion.

However, as at the time he had come to this understanding, he didn’t have enough mana to test out the theory itself as even Derek, probably mastered [Sylph’s Playground] after a few months of being an S-rank.

But, now that Flynn was in a similar power level, he could roughly cast the spell but unfortunately, couldn’t perfect it just as Derek would.

And at the same time, he couldn’t maintain it for too long…

"One minute Aiden! I can only hold this spell for one minute!" Flynn called out, already running towards the far end of the barrier whilst setting a timer on his nano-band.

His priority at the moment was Briar and Butler Frank!

"Roger that!" Aiden on the other hand, ran towards Rigurd who was still dazed by the entire scenario.

However, realizing he only needed to hold off for that long, Rigurd similarly ran towards Flynn!

There was no way he was going to let him save those two!

Unfortunately for him, Aiden wasn’t going to give him that chance.

Within range of a normal human attack, Aiden rammed into the man with a strong shoulder charge!

-Bam-!

Both individuals were sent tumbling to the ground due to this, pained groans escaping their lips.

Rigurd, furious that he couldn’t access even the slightest bit of mana, kept groaning as he struggled to stand up…

…only to receive a brutal dropkick from Aiden that sent him right back to the dirt of the pavement!

-Thud-!

-Thud-!

"Fucking hell that hurt" Aiden let out a muffled groan, his entire body in pain as he performed the action wrongly.

Rigurd on the other hand, pissed by the occurrence, struggled to get up again while declaring inwardly!

’They’re dead meat!’

However, something else soon caught his attention as he gradually got up, all whilst simultaneously picking up the halberd that had slipped from his hands due to Aiden’s dropkick.

’Is that… blood? My… blood?’ the man inwardly commented upon noticing the red droplets of blood from his face.

At the same time, there was also a dagger that had dug deeply into the side of his torso, one that Aiden had simultaneously jammed in when he rammed into him.

’When last have I felt this weak… maybe a hundred years back…’ the man struggled to come to an understanding as he broke off the dagger’s hilt instead of removing it, not noticing the slight greenish ring forming on the edges of the wound.

’Due to my weakness… those nobles killed off my tribe…’ he kept introspecting with a slightly dazed expression.

Slowly touching his bloody nose and burst lips for a few seconds, Rigurd’s fury reached new heights and he tightly grasped onto his halberd!

’One minute should have passed by now!’ he channeled his mana and swung the weapon.

However, he soon realized two things…

One, Flynn Belmont had completely played him by making him think his spell was only going to last for a minute!

And two, he realized just how heavy his titanium-forged weapon truly was without mana strengthening his body on a base level!

He had gotten so used to being strong, he had forgotten how much harder it was for normal humans to lift even the things they as rankers, considered light.

However, those moments of revelation for Rigurd, spelled an opportunity for Aiden whom had quickly discarded his sword and activated his own nano-band.

-Fuaamm-!

Turning invisible, Aiden didn’t stay complacent for one moment as he launched a fist towards Rigurd’s torso.

-Swish-!

Sidestepping at the last minute, the Obelisk Arm, despite being unable to see Aiden, launched a counterpunch of his own.

-Woosh-!

’As expected…’ Aiden inwardly commented whilst ducking, effortlessly evading the punch.

’He can still sense my general direction… just barely…’ the youth closed the gap between he and Rigurd, launching a knee butt that collided with the man’s jaw.

-Thwack-!

Staggering backwards with a mild concussion, another portion of his lip bursting open, Rigurd calmed his breathing whilst waiting for the slightest disturbances in the air.

Even if all his mana-based abilities had been locked out, considering how much of his base foundation and senses he had trained to perfection years back when he was still a youth, sensing an incoming attack wasn’t a tough task.

Reacting and evading it in time however, now that was a different ball game…

Jumping backwards the moment he felt the invisible Aiden within vicinity, Rigurd frowned when he felt himself being pulled right back towards the youth, a black whip-like material wrapping around his torso.

-Thwip-!

In a few seconds, he was right in front of Aiden and despite knowing a punch was headed his way, was unable to dodge it and simply received it at point blank!

-Bam-!

Staggering backwards again, blood dripping down his nose like a tap, Rigurd furiously glared in Aiden’s general direction…

Only to realize from a distance that Flynn, whom he had wanted to stop from reaching the two abductees, had already made it there.

’It’s all for naught though’ a sudden sinister thought sprung up in Rigurd’s mind.

That being said, the man wasn’t afforded the luxury to dwell on said thought as Aiden moved into range to attack again.

---

"Young Master…" Frank barely let out those words as he watched Flynn appear in his blurry field of vision.

"Brother Flynn" Briar on the other hand, extremely tired from all the crying and still very much shaken, managed to let out a weak smile.

However, as if also relieved from all the stress, she slumped almost immediately out of sheer exhaustion.

"I’m sorry we’re late. You’ll be safe now. I promise" Flynn gently picked up their Butler and then the young girl, placing Frank on his left shoulder and Briar in one of his arms.

Feeling the weight of how heavy they both were, Frank especially, Flynn persisted despite how his knees buckled under the immense weight, a small groan escaping his lips.

Taking in a few deep breaths whilst standing still in an effort to adjust to the weight, the youth took the first step, the mana in his core draining at a rapid rate.

Slowly walking, one step after the other, the youth gradually picked up with a slow run and eventually, broke into a commendable, steady sprint even as the depletion of his mana took a heavy toll on him.

Three minutes later, he was out of the barrier he created.

Gently placing Frank on the ground, feeling slightly invigorated by the mana that fueled his entire being from the air, Flynn knew he couldn’t waste even a single second.

Quickly, he retrieved an advanced-grade mana potion and healing potion, downing the two into their Butler’s mouth.

Checking the timer on the band, one that he had set a few seconds after he activated the spell, Flynn realized that only thirty seconds were left before it would destabilize.

In addition to that, blood was constantly dripping down his nose and he was feeling a bit woozy, indicating that he was overdoing it.

"Shit!" he cursed in desperation, struggling to keep his consciousness.

Sure he could use mana potions to recover but then again, potions never recovered fatigue and he was already reaching his limit.

Considering he and Aiden still also needed to hold off Rigurd till Butler Frank and Briar made it out safe and sound, it was necessary he stopped the spell at exactly five minutes.

Watching as Frank’s injuries healed at a rapid rate, color returning to his previously pale face, Flynn gave a simple order;

"Get Briar out of here!"

The Butler whom had sprung up from his resting position and was now fit as a fiddle, nodded resolutely as he responded;

"Yes Young Master!"

No sooner had he said that, Flynn gently brushed his hands through Briar’s hair for a brief second, a light smile on his lips.

Checking the timer, the youth then quickly retrieved two potions, hurled them straight into the skies and way above his barrier, all whilst simultaneously casting a spell.

No sooner had he done this, he swiftly ran right back into the barrier.

At the exact same time, Butler Frank activated his flight spell and took to the skies.

Only five seconds was left on Flynn’s timer!
