The pope assigned Reeva here not because he trusted him but because Reeva was a good token of the morals of the church. Most of the time, the decision is decided by Quin or Max. They only needed his approval to do the thing.

Which he will happily granted.

He couldn’t command the entire army without training. If he took that way, he would only find failures. On the other hand, with Quin and Max directing the knight and priest, he didn’t need to raise a hand.

"We are ready to launch the investigation, please give us your blessing"

"Go ahead, and come back safely."

Quin will took half of the knights and deal with the matter inside the forest. The cold weather forced the knights to wore an extra thick cloak over their already tight knight armor, while the priests had wore thicker robes more than usual.

They gather in front of the village ready to embark on their first mission. It was a clear day for hunting animals, at least as clear as the grey sky of winter could get.

"The god have spoken! We are to eradicate these evil creatures! And we do as he commands. we won’t stop unless we wipe them from the face of this holy continent! You hear me!"

Quin is giving a pep talk to all of them with the best tough guy voice he could muster. Reeva only witnessed the guy talk in short sentences so it’s a surprise to hear his rally.

"Yes sir!"

The knight straightened up in front of the priest. Quin’s presence made their mind sharpen, and his tough muscles intimidated the ones that are out of line.

"This knowledge is given to us by the god," Quin said glancing in Reeva’s direction. the boy could only waved at the brown skin priest "What we are looking for is a hole in the ground, there, you will find the cause of this plague. We will burn it with fire, burn with our lord’s power, and send them to hell!!!!"

"Yesss!!!"

The crowd cheered as the rally came to an end. Quin leaded his troops out of the village to find the mutant animal.

Normally, the weakness of these mutant animal would be revealed much later on when random hunter chance upon the mutant nest. he was not hunting when his foot was suck in by the snow. Upon closer look, it was a hole in the ground no larger than a fist. It was an opening for the thing called a spreader.

It hide underground and used those holes for breathing. The easiest method to kill these beast is to covered the hole up so they won’t be able to breathe anymore. But that would take some luck because the spreader could actually control animals to some extent.

By emitting pheromones into the air, it could entice animals to spread the mutant sickness to those nearby. They can even instruct the animals to dig holes, but they must be close. Otherwise, the command would take too long to register.

With the burning method, the spreader will die instantly. Reeva didn’t know their biology but in the book, fire is basically a kryptonite of these monster. If he had to guess, it’s something to do with them needing the cold weather to spread themselves.

Which he never really got why.

Anyway, that didn’t matter right now, the only thing that matters is Reeva spreading the word of himself! and he had a perfect plan to do that.

After he confirmed that half of the knights have gone out, he visited the village chief. Of course, Max is still here following him everywhere he goes. The priest acts as a guard to keep him in check and to assist Reeva in any request.

It’s like Reeva’s second shadow.

Either way, he had to make this work somehow. He opened the chief’s door and stepped into the living room, where a cozy fireplace crackled softly, casting a warm glow across the room. Moments later, the chief entered, carrying a steaming cup of tea. He offered it to the priest and apostle with a respectful nod, the fragrant steam rising between them.

"I’m sorry for the quality, this is the best our village could offer."

"No worries I’m not that picky"

Reeva took a cautious sip of the tea, grimacing slightly. "Bland," he muttered under his breath. It was mostly hot water with just a hint of tea leaves. If he were a tea expert, he would have rated it a mere 1 out of 10. In truth, calling it water would have been more fitting.

But he’s just an apostle with no taste in Tea, so drinking hot water is not that bad. And after he said that, Max looks at him more positively than before.

"What brings you here Your Excellency?"

"Well, I’m here to give you this"

Reeva cut to the chase since there’s no time to waste. what’s in his hand was a star, a six-pointed star made out of silver. He ordered these to be made the moment that he revealed he was the apostle, with the reason that it gave would him good luck.

"What is this?"

The village chief pointed at the object, a wary expression crossing his face. He hesitated to pick it up. The thought of approaching something so closely tied to the apostle filled him with unease.

"It’s a lucky star, a thing that would make you a little happier. Try to pick it up"

With a shudder of hands, he slowly picked it up. At that moment, he strangely felt good.

"Remember that feeling, and if you ever felt it again pray while holding it in your hand. It would help you and your village."

Reeva said, leaving the chief with the star. He couldn’t let Max know what happened right under his watchful eyes.

"What is that trinket your excellency?"

However, Max remained skeptical, it did not appear to be a standard charm distributed by the Sun Church.

"It’s a unique souvenir for a special occasion. Giving them this signifies that we’ve already been here, if we become lost, we may ask for the star that the village chief had.

"That’s good thinking Your Excellency"

Max would’ve asked further if Reeva was a normal priest but he figured that an apostle couldn’t betray the sun god.
