Extra's Perfect Ending-Chapter 223: Court
The high court wasn’t open many times, usually, when there was a dispute among the nobles, they would be sent to a normal court where it would be held by a priest. However, a high court takes things further by handling the most important case.
Requiring the pope himself to judge the truth from people. On this day the high court had open for a special occasion. To judge a prince on his crime of colluding with a heretic, the main people that accuse him were the Antores household.
A month ago, Brent had mobilized his force and exerted some power as a prince to pressure the Antores family. Using his authority to remove Reeva from his position as the last son of the family. Of course, the prince and his influence alone couldn’t do it. The other family had a hand in this too.
The five other Dukes wouldn’t let the chance to remove one of the sons of house Antores. They have a reputation for raising a good and strong family. The Duke himself has 2 other brothers who are maintaining their house business. Making the Duke himself free to maintain the house and politics within the Eyre empire.
They’d seen firsthand what Antores could accomplish, so removing one of their successors was a prudent decision for anyone with a brain. However, this decision harmed their connection with the Antores, and they realized they needed to finish what they had started.
Two cases will be held in this court, first, the case against Antores about their involvement in raising a heretic known as Reeva and Hilda, both being from Antore’s house is a good attack angle to bring Antores down. The ones leading this matter were none other than the Duke Tudors.
Their territory was close to each other, Their head had been against one another for a long time. This is their moment to take the house down.
Walking into the court was a representative on the Tudor side, Rouos, a hired person for Tudor. He had a cold temperament but charm on his face. He is carefully selected by the Tudors to represent them and pull out any lies that House Antores might come up with.
On the other side, House Antores has sent Haris to be their spoke person. In this world, there’s no need for any lawyer when the truth could be decerned by a priest. However, the person representing them is key to winning any court case.
Usually, if any story gets to court, it would be a complicated matter where it involves many parties with different sets of truths that they believe in. A normal murder case with two suspects could be easily solved by a question; are you the killer? they simply couldn’t lie to the church.
However, if the suspect had 5 differnt people that are not directly involved in the crime but had a piece of accountability, that’s when it’s hard to judge the crime. People often do this in nobility. They muddied the case as much as possible to avoid punishment.
This strategy rarely worked in front of the priest, but it did occasionally allow them to commit a crime. That is sufficient reason to bring them to court. More rules have recently been implemented to avoid the majority of these exploits, but people will always find a method to distort the truth.
It’s up to the person holding the trial to ask the right question to the right person.
Haris tightened up his suit, ready for the upcoming battle with the Tudor representative. Originally it was supposed to be Plutus that would be opposed to house Antores but when he arrives at the capital, he no longer pursues the case.
Then Todor quickly selects another guy to represent them. Haris could see by Tudor’s attitude that they didn’t want to get engaged in his case anymore, but other dukes encouraged them to do so.
The location where the trial took place is none other than the cathedral, it is simply the best location to intimidate someone when asking questions. Normal people would fest up their wrongdoing in fear of divine punishment and noble would have second thoughts lying.
If one is caught lying in court, no matter what reason, they’d be guilty immediately, without any question asked. That is why people fear the court session.
The cathedral is packed full of people from different ages and groups, filling up the church to witness the hearing of today. In the morning, They’d be witnessing the house of Antores defending their position and trying to void the punishment.
In the evening, they would witness the prince trying to defend himself for associating with a heretic. Most people were there to assess the situation—business partners and other noblemen needed to react with lightning speed if Antores was punished or the prince jailed.
The pope got onto the podium. Two people situation in front of him, Haris on his left and Rouos on his right.
"Let’s start this trial," The pope said in a low voice but everyone could hear it. The whole cathedral went silent and dared not to chat when the pope spoke. "O god please witness the conversation between these two individuals and relly your verdict to me"
The pope radiated a bit of light from his body. His eyes shone brighter than before, making him more intimidating, like an incarnation of God himself had come to visit the cathedral.
"Please present your case, Tudor representative."
The pope said.
"Thank you for your time, Your Excellency" Rouos bowed talking "As you might have known the recent event regarding house Antores, Rumor has is that you guys are colluding with heretics, is that true?"
Tudor opens with the main question right away. Since they could only tell nothing but the truth in front of the pope, there was no need to play around.

"No, we have no involvement with heretic"
Haris answers with a firm voice. They have no intention of dealing with a heretic, at least, not one that he knows of.
