"My mom told me that when I’m in danger, this thing will protect me," Kanku said with a solemn expression.

"Can I borrow it?"

Kanku looked at Holen. The detective’s expression was grave. Clearly, they don’t have any more way to get out of here. The tribe kids gripped the necklace harder. This was the thing that his mother gave him, and it never left his neck for years.

"Yea..."

Kanku trusted the guy, even though they hadn’t met for long, they seemed like good people. The kid unequipped his necklace and gave it to Holen.

"We will not break it, I promise" It’s important to the kid so he didn’t want to break it. Holen looked up to the two knights after getting the necklace. Both of them looked at each other knowing that one of them needed to go.

"I’ll go" Oven suggested after a bit of time.

"Why..." Jell is about to refute but Oven quickly says his reason.

"No, you stayed here and kept him safe. I want to repay you for saving my dumbass in the cave"

"Are you sure?" Holen said, looking into Oven’s eyes. Over the years, there are not many things that they don’t agree with each other. Holen had always been the cold detective in his eyes but he couldn’t deny that Holen was always looking out for them.

Oven felt his heart beat faster, as he himself knew that he would be walking into certain doom.

"I am"

"Alright, go ahead," Holen said. "Be as sneaky as possible and snatch that floating object. There’s likely an invisible force protecting it, so be careful."

From Holen’s observation, there is an invisible thing that the skeleton could control. He noticed this when it was fighting with the vine. It slashed the ground and made a mess with nothing but thin air, so it likely had that something to protect the book too.

"Alright," Oven answered without thinking much.

"Go, we don’t have time to waste"

Hoeln said turning his back on Oven. He felt a wave of something when saying such words. Oven steeled himself and started walking toward the skeleton. He made ten steps before he heard something from behind.

"Come back alive."

Oven felt the weight of those words. The knight hesitated for a moment and glanced back, but he couldn’t find the words to say. He turned his attention back to the skeleton. As he walked, he focused intently on the skeleton, trying to determine whether Holen’s theory about it not noticing him was valid.

Each step felt heavier than the last as he finally grasped the full scale of destruction that the skeleton was capable of. The floor lay in ruins, chopped up by the skeleton, with countless grey vines dying every second. Visibly, the size of the vines appeared to have shrunk.

He knew that his time grew shorter and shorter, if the vine were to die right now he would have no chance of getting out alive. With that in mind, he makes his first step. Going closer and closer to the skeleton.

His gaze shifted slightly toward his goal: the book floating next to the skeleton. It was right beside the monster, so he needed to balance being careful with being fast.

Finally, he walked closer and closer. The skeleton was none the wiser, still attempting to chop down all of the vines. Up close, the Night Emperor looked even more terrifying. His dark, hollow eyes, glowing with a deep red light, seemed straight out of a children’s horror book. Oven held his breath, this was his only chance. If he failed, he would be chopped up by the invisible thing that was cutting the vines.

Fortunately, the skeleton did not fly; otherwise, Oven would have had no way of obtaining the book. He reached out his hand, inching closer. His gaze was split between the book and the skeleton, anticipating when his plan would fail.

Right then, his hand grabbed onto something. It was not the book but an invisible wall. It’s just like Holen predicted, there is a protective barrier around the thing. As soon as he grabbed the wall, the necklace activated.

Oven went into panic mode because he didn’t think the necklace would activate. It’s too soon! Then he could see why, the skeleton that was focusing on the vine turned to look him dead in the eyes.

"Seem like there’s a sneaky rat"

The necklace was fully activated and quickly enveloped Oven’s body. His hand shook when he witnessed and clashed with the mystic force. There was no way he was getting out of here in time, so the last thing he should do was to at least touch the book.

His hand coated with mystic power reached in deeper and touched the book. The skeleton smirked and directed more mystic power at Oven, hoping to crush the guy into a pile of meat.

The mystic force closed in on him, and Oven could feel all of his body getting boxed in. Hlen seeing it from afar couldn’t help but feel his heart drop. The skeleton clearly noticed Oven and he would likely die.

Even though Oven said that to stay here and protect Kanku, he still needed to do something.

"Jell, look after Kanku for me"

At that moment, he felt like this was the wrong decision. He should have stayed out of harm’s way and waited for another opportunity. However, he simply could not let Oven die right in front of him. He ran, as Oven was about to get crushed.

The knight’s armor began to dig into his body, and a muffled scream of pain escaped his lips. Holen ran as if his life depended on it, unaware of what he would do when he arrived, but he knew he had to take action.

However before Holen could reach the Oven, something else happened. The ball of flesh beside the skeleton started to untangle. It turned from an unrecognizable flesh to a human in a blink of an eye.

The skeleton seemed to notice this, too. His skull quickly turned to look at what had happened. His mystic energy, which had been immaculately maintained, had been dispersed. He knew that his control wasn’t that sloppy, so that meant Athan had done something with the mystic energy.

The immortal man smiled when he broke free.

"How did you..."

The skeleton was surprised by the escape, but his attention then pulled back to Oven, who was now holding the Book of Earth. Athan’s surprise caused enough disruption to free the knight.

The guy instantly grabbed the book and ran. He couldn’t be bothered to look back, his life resting on the possibility of the vines and Atahn stalling the skeleton.

"Get back here"

The skeleton stretched his arm out, trying to control the mystic power to stop Oven from escaping. However, the mother blocked his way and sent more waves of vines to and made herself a barrier.

The night emporer felt a bit shocked. All of this happened way too fast; it was as if someone had planned this from the beginning. The skeleton would like to smirk, but his skull couldn’t express that.

He controlled his mystic aura to catch the Oven who was running away, however, the vines were dead set on not letting that happen.

"What are you planning...."

However just as the skeleton muttered his mind could think of one possibility, one that would be very annoying if that happened and finally he could see it. His hand moved much faster than before, he needed to get both of the books back!

However, the vines were now pulling back. They quickly grabbed both Athan and Oven and rushed toward the door. The skeleton sensed the urgency of the situation and used his mystic aura to pursue them. Though his speed was slightly faster than that of the vines, he needed to either catch them or destroy them, which was challenging, especially since the opponent was just a mass of vines.

Again, the skeleton shot his aura at the vines, and it quickly moved out of the way while retreating.

"Get back here!"

The skeleton voice started to weaver. No longer the calm emperor, because he could fail here. The vine traveled at high speed, arriving at the door in about a second. On its way there it also swept Holen who was running toward Oven.

At that moment he couldn’t help but feel fear when the vines. It had been chasing them for this long and couldn’t do anything, now it just helping them escape for whatever reason. He didn’t buy it. However he was also helpless, this vine was something that no matter how much he wiggled would let go.

At this point, his fate was not in his own hands anymore.

When the vines got close to the door, the transparent door began to distort. Both of the books shone brightly and flew inside the door.
