Extra's Revenge: Reincarnated As A Slave-Chapter 79: Choice (Part 1)
The silence that followed Rey’s words was suffocating.
Every eye in the courtyard fixed on the young man who stood at the center of a massacre, utterly calm despite the carnage surrounding him.
The flickering flames cast dancing shadows across his face, making his expression difficult to read.
But everyone could feel it—the raw, pulsing energy radiating from him.
Chaos Energy.
It rolled off Rey in waves so potent that even the weakened Sunlit Order members could sense it clearly.
Just how did Rey have this much?!
Also, it didn’t seem like he was affected by the Aether Infection. Was his excess Chaos Energy counteracting the imbalance in his body? But wouldn’t that create strange phenomena around him?
His very presence was a paradox difficult for those before him to unravel.
But that didn’t matter..
What mattered most was that he was present in this current situation.
As a potential ally or a potential foe.
’This kid...’
Logan’s mind raced, trying to reconcile what he was seeing with what he knew.
He’d clearly seen Rey die in the Coliseum. After further investigation, he discovered a link between Augustus and the Duke, owner of the Arena.
However, with the Family Head cracking down on spies, it could have been a way to eliminate one of their pawns early.
Speaking of the Family Head...
’I thought he was somewhat aware of our existence, since he went after Davin, but that doesn’t seem like the case. Did we think wrongly on the matter? Were we too hasty?’
Although Logan had these thoughts, he couldn’t voice them out.
After all, he was one of the main champions of attacking as urgently as they could, which ended up leaving this number of sacrifices.
Admitting to his mistakes wouldn’t go well.
’No doubt Serena is also having the same thoughts, but she dares not speak up since she also supported my poaition....’
Back to Rey, though.
’He surely died. But what if he had a hidden card up his sleeve? What if this was all a part of Augustus’ arrangement? No, he looks just as surprised. Could it be the Duke? If such a figure was involved, why would Rey be here all by himself?’
Throughout all of this, no one even suspected Rey of being an Undead.
Rey displayed high levels of intelligence, and Undead were usually mindless. Even mid-tier Undead like the Soulless had their personality stripped away.
Plus, Rey was hiding his appearance with an Artifact, so it seemed like he was just his normal self.
’The most plausible thing I can think of is that Amara somehow had a life-saving Artifact, so he didn’t really die. He only pretended to so he could escape. He would have also been able to break out of Augustus’ slave contract during this period since he was already close to achieving it before the Annual Coliseum Festival’
Everything quickly began to match up in Logan’s head.
’Now free from his Slave Status, he can stand before all of us—even his former Master—confidently; also radiating power that astounds even me.’
So much Chaos!
’He is likely using a Chaos Technique at the moment. That explains the sudden surge of Chaos Energy.’
Each of the Six Arts had their corresponding energy associated with them.
Then there was Ether, the Universal Energy that could connect with them or transform into their states.
If a person had an affinity for Chaos Art, the Ether in their body would be able to transform into Chaos Energy upon the activation of a corresponding Technique.
Thus, the Excessive Chaos Art could be explained by Rey simply using his Ether to create Chaos Energy.
It didn’t necessarily mean Rey was an Undead. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
But—
’Just how strong is he now?’
—Rey’s display of excessive Chaos Energy caused everyone around to deeply suspect his strength.
’What happened to you?’ Logan thought, unable to voice the question.
The automatons’ sensors flickered and whirred, their advanced detection systems analyzing the newcomer.
Red targeting lights swept across Rey’s form, but curiously, they didn’t lock on. The machines’ artificial intelligence seemed confused, their threat assessment algorithms failing to properly categorize him.
"SUBJECT ANALYSIS INCONCLUSIVE," one automaton announced mechanically. "LIFE SIGNS: NEGATIVE. THREAT LEVEL: INDETERMINATE. AWAITING FURTHER PARAMETERS."
Augustus noticed this immediately.
"The automatons aren’t attacking him!" Hope surged through the young noble’s voice. "That means he’s still registered as allied to the Desgarron Household! The household recognition system must still identify him as my property—I mean, my servant!"
This interpretation rippled through both sides, though for vastly different reasons.
The Sunlit Order members exchanged worried glances. If the Desgarron security systems still recognized Rey as an ally, he might side with Augustus by default. That would shift the balance catastrophically against them.
Augustus, meanwhile, felt genuine relief for the first time since this nightmare began.
Rey had been his slave, his property.
Surely that bond, that connection, would mean something now.
Rey, however, knew the truth.
The automatons weren’t identifying him as an ally or enemy—they simply couldn’t identify him at all. His Undead nature meant he registered as neither living nor dead, confusing systems designed to categorize threats based on life signs and conventional energy patterns.
He was a ghost in their sensors. A void where a person should be.
’Interesting,’ Rey thought, keeping his expression neutral. ’This could be useful.’
Serena was the first to break the tense silence, stepping forward with her hands raised in a gesture of peace.
"Young Man, I don’t know how you survived, but your presence here is providential." Her voice took on a persuasive tone, the same one she’d used countless times to recruit desperate Cursed Ones to their cause. "You’ve seen what the Nobles are capable of. You were enslaved by this very family, treated as less than human, scheduled for execution for their entertainment."
She gestured at Augustus, still cradled in the automaton’s protective arms.
"This boy, this heir to House Desgarron, he represents everything that’s kept our people in chains for generations. Help us end this cycle. Help us kill him and break the power of the Noble Houses."
"We can offer you freedom," Logan added, his voice urgent despite his lingering shock. "True freedom. Not just from slavery, but from the entire corrupt system. Join the Sunlit Order, and you’ll have brothers and sisters who understand your suffering. You’ll have the opportunity to venture into a new world."
All of these were lies, though.
Rey had a sole affinity in Chaos Art and his Chaos Energy was too repulsive to these Cursed Ones who never even developed their Chaos Affinity.
They clearly wouldn’t welcome him into their ranks. All they needed was for him to help them out of their current predicament.
Perhaps he could also help them in other ways.
But afterwards—
’He can be our scapegoat as we make our escape...’ Logan smiled to himself.
At this point, Rey’s gaze shifted to him, and for a moment, something cold flickered in those ancient eyes.
Logan had to suppress a shiver.
"You can take revenge," another Order member called out, a woman with burn scars covering half her face.
"Revenge against everyone who wronged you. We all carry that pain, that anger. Channel it into something meaningful!"
’Revenge, huh?’
Rey’s smile broadened slightly.
