Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Inevitable slip of the tongue in the heat of the moment (Additional)
"Say another word, Nia Mitchell, and I swear I won’t kill you."
"OUCH..."
Nia Mitchell jumped into Maxwell Peary’s arms, giving him a big hug. She chuckled. He can still joke, so it seems he isn’t really mad anymore.
"It wasn’t on purpose, you know! In the heat of the moment, one can’t help but make a mistake—oh, not a slip of the hand, a slip of the tongue."
She reached out and gently rubbed his lips. He was no longer bleeding; the wound wasn’t big, just a slight scrape.
HEE HEE, that should keep him from casually kissing me now.
"Need more rest?"
Maxwell smoothed her jet-black hair, his eyes full of adoration.
"No need, I feel much better after my bath."
Nia looked up at him, beaming.
"So, Mrs. Peary, would you like to go out for lunch?"
Nia shook her head, her face radiant with joy.
"Mrs. Peary wants to eat some Tomato and Egg Noodles made by Mr. Peary himself."
Maxwell patted her head. "Mr. Peary is taking a lunch break, so no noodles. Come on, let’s go out!"
Maxwell reached out to scoop up the little woman crouching before him, carried her to the Changing Room, and handed her a simple and understated outfit.
Smiling, Nia also walked over to the row of cabinets on the opposite side, picked out a set of Maxwell’s clothes, and handed them to him.
The two looked at each other and smiled. "Mrs. Peary, see you in two minutes?"
"Okay."
So, one headed to the Changing Room while the other returned to the Bedroom, and they began to change.
「Two minutes later—」
"What does Mrs. Peary plan to do after lunch?"
Nia pretended to think, settling on an answer only once they got in the car.
"How about we go watch a movie?"
"Sure."
「...」
After lunch, the couple arrived at the biggest cinema in Capital Town. While Maxwell went to buy the tickets, Nia went to the restroom. She didn’t expect to run into Mellisa Moreland and... Ralph Perez when she came out.
Nia pointed at the two in astonishment, her face registering shock.
"So, Mellisa, you...?" She pointed at Ralph Perez, curious about their relationship.
Mellisa laughed awkwardly. "It’s not what you’re thinking. I just bumped into the class leader. Actually, I had made arrangements to watch a movie with a friend, but they stood me up, so..."
Nia nodded. So I’d been overthinking it.
"Why are you at the cinema? With your flash-marriage husband?"
Mellisa whispered so that only the two of them could hear. Nia shook her head instinctively.
"Oh, no."
"HUH? Nia Mitchell?"
Suddenly, a woman in flashy clothes, carrying the latest LV bag, came out of the restroom.
"I can’t believe someone like you would actually come to the cinema. How unusual."
The woman didn’t even give Nia a chance to speak before she began her snide commentary.
Nia inwardly sighed at her rotten luck. To think I’d run into her at the cinema—Julia Adams, the belle of University A’s Chinese Department.
"Nia Mitchell, I heard your engagement ceremony was canceled, huh? I told you Hendry Hampton was just playing with you and would dump you sooner or later, but you didn’t believe me. Look at you now, what a huge embarrassment!"
Julia Adams walked towards her, gloating, clearly intending to savor Nia’s dejected look.
"That’s true. Hendry Hampton isn’t mine, but he isn’t yours either."
Julia’s face instantly turned livid, and she glared at Nia furiously.
"At least I’m better off than you! With Hendry, I was the one who dumped him. You, on the other hand, just became a laughingstock. You really thought you could turn from a sparrow into a phoenix, huh? Now, not only did you fail to get the fish, but you also ended up reeking of it."
Julia Adams was famously sharp-tongued; how could she possibly lose a war of words?
