Chapter 799: Chapter 799: Long Time No See

At seven in the evening, Evelyn Clayton left home with Sharon right on time.

She got in touch with Yara Reagan and learned that Iris Lockwood had been discharged from the hospital and was planning to return to Riversend the day after tomorrow. Evelyn arranged to visit them then, and turned off her phone.

She didn’t plan on letting anyone else know about tonight’s meeting.

Some things are best done in silence.

As she was leaving with Sharon, Pauline Warren asked about their plans. Evelyn had Sharon get into the car first and told Pauline they were going to visit Iris Lockwood.

Pauline didn’t suspect anything and continued to inquire about Iris’s condition.

With a nervous heart, Evelyn made up a story and then got into the car, driving away from the Sinclair Family residence.

On the road, Sharon’s happiness was evident to the naked eye.

She asked Evelyn to play her favorite songs for her, bouncing around in the backseat in her child seat, a constant smile on her cute, delicate face.

Evelyn glanced at her through the rearview mirror, catching Sharon’s gaze. Evelyn smiled back at Sharon and asked what other songs she wanted to hear.

Sharon listed a few more songs, and Evelyn added each one to the playlist, though her heart grew increasingly heavy.

She didn’t know if what she was doing would lead to any negative consequences in the future.

She didn’t want to think about it too much.

She had been resolutely walking this path for a long, long time.

Arriving at the restaurant where she had agreed to meet James Grant, Evelyn got out of the car with Sharon and put a pretty beret on her.

This was Sharon’s favorite hat, and it perfectly concealed most of Sharon’s face so no one could recognize her.

Inside the restaurant, Evelyn headed to the private room.

Luckily, since it was a weekday, there weren’t too many people in the restaurant, so no one noticed them.

At the door of the private room, Evelyn paused, lost in thought, before pushing the door open and stepping inside after a moment.

Inside the private room, James Grant and Keith Donovan were already there.

As Evelyn entered, both men stood up simultaneously.

James was somewhat restrained, but Keith couldn’t control his eyes, repeatedly glancing at Sharon.

"You’re here." James’s voice was dry, and an unexplainable nervousness filled the air.

Evelyn nodded and put Sharon down.

Eagerly, Sharon lifted the edge of her hat and looked up, meeting James’s gaze.

The room was so silent that a pin drop could be heard.

James’s hands trembled as he slowly crouched down to meet Sharon’s eyes, his heart filled with a bittersweet taste.

Sharon was also nervous, but her smile was bright. After a while, she turned to Evelyn as if seeking approval.

Evelyn’s hand at her side slightly clenched, but she still smiled at Sharon and nodded gently.

Sharon pursed her lips and, after a moment, reached out to James, softly saying, "Daddy—"

In an instant, tears welled up in James’s eyes.

Even Keith couldn’t help but feel both joyful and pained watching from the side.

Joyful for James, yet painful for him as well.

Keith knew just how much James had sacrificed for this moment, to hear Sharon call him "Daddy."

And now...

James really wanted to hug Sharon.

But he restrained himself, holding back his actions.

He reached out, gently holding Sharon’s hand.

Suppressing the hoarseness in his voice, James gave a gentle smile and said, "Sharon, long time no see."
