Chapter 59: [59]The Mythic Bait, The Golden Scale Gambit

Sovereign Megacity, First Protective Ring. Golden Scale Auction House. Main Lobby.

Vahn had known about the Golden Scale auction for three days.

The terminal in the university laboratory had given him more than just fear. It had given him a schedule.

The Syndicate was planning to arm their commanders with Diamond tier weapons before the next phase of the invasion. The Gale Sunder Heart was the key ingredient.

He had spent the night after the jungle forging the replacement. By morning it was ready. By afternoon they were at the door.

The Golden Scale Auction House was a

cathedral of greed! Even with the world outside burning and Sovereign City reduced to ash, these social elites had not changed at all.

Inside the marble lobby, wealthy guild leaders in Platinum tier armor sipped virtual wine. Their eyes were fixed on the holographic displays of rare drops.

They acted as if the apocalypse was merely a temporary server maintenance. It was just an inconvenience solvable with enough credits!

Vahn Ryker stood in a private viewing booth overlooking the main auction floor. Below him, Lunara was on the stage, her professional calmness fully restored.

She was draped in a gown of shimmering silk that seemed to change color with every step she took.

"You are very quiet, Commander." Sia Vance observed as she stood at the door.

She had polished her obsidian shield until it reflected the surrounding light. "The Syndicate has sent three high ranking representatives. They are currently occupying the front row."

Vahn did not turn away from the glass. His Verdant Chronos Sight was active. He was looking at the security protocols of the building.

"They think they are here to buy the Gale Sunder Heart. They sold off smaller guilds to ensure they have the highest bid."

"And you are going to let them buy it?" Aria asked as she leaned against the table.

"You spent all that energy hunting the T-Rex just to hand the heart to our enemies?"

Vahn finally turned back. A dangerous and calculating smile was playing on his lips.

He reached into his Void Weaver Vault and pulled out a small glowing orb. It looked exactly like the Gale Sunder Heart, but its internal light was a deep dark violet!

"This," Vahn spoke softly, "is a Relic of the Void. It is an environmental anchor I forged using the excess data from the Broodmother."

"To any scanner, it reads as a Mythic tier crafting ingredient. But it is actually a targeted Trojan horse."

Hana was busy trying to teach Kora how to use a fork. Hearing his words, she looked up.

"A Trojan horse? Are you going to blow them up?"

"Nothing so crude, Hana," Vahn replied. "The moment this item is purchased, it will begin to drain their collective mana and EXP."

"It will create a targeted debt that the system will attempt to balance by draining their bank accounts. It is a financial ruin."

Below them, the auction finally began. The air was thick with tension as Lunara presented the exact fake Vahn had prepared.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Lunara’s voice echoed through the hall. "The item before you is the only known Gale Sunder Heart in existence!"

"It is a catalyst capable of forging weapons that can pierce the hide of a Tier 6 entity. The starting bid is ten million credits."

The room erupted instantly. The Lords began shouting bids. Twenty million. Forty million. Seventy million.

Vahn watched as the Syndicate representative stood up. It was Lord Valerius, cousin to the Alpha. His face was flushed with pride.

"One hundred million credits!" he roared. His voice carried the authority of a man who owned the entire city.

"And any who bid against the Syndicate will be hunted outside these walls!"

The room went completely silent. Nobody wanted to cross the Syndicate.

"One hundred million credits, once," Lunara said, her eyes flickering toward Vahn’s booth. "Twice. Sold to the Syndicate!"

Vahn let out a soft and satisfied breath. "Hook, line, and sinker."

"Now what?" Sia asked, touching her sword. "They have the item. They are leaving."

"Now we wait for the system to do the math," Vahn said.

He pulled up his master interface and tapped a single command.

[Initiate Data Re-allocation]

Miles away in the Syndicate headquarters, their central Guild Vault was a massive storage of shared experience points and credits.

The moment Lord Valerius’s adjutant accepted the item into the shared inventory, the Trojan horse activated!

Back in the auction house, the Syndicate representative was walking toward the door.

He stopped at the registration desk to finalize the transfer of funds. But as he tapped his interface, a sharp red warning notification flared in the air.[System Error: Insufficient Funds. Transaction Denied.]

Lord Valerius froze. "What? That is impossible! We have over five hundred million credits!"

He tapped the screen again desperately. Another notification appeared.[Warning: Targeted Debt Detected. Your Guild collective EXP is being drained to cover environmental damages.]

"What environmental damages?!" Valerius screamed, his voice cracking.

Vahn walked out onto the balcony, looking down at the panicked lord.

"The damages caused by your greed, Valerius. You have been over-harvesting the lower floors, creating data voids. The system finally found someone to bill for the repairs."

"Ryker!" Valerius looked up, his eyes burning with rage. "You hacked the system!"

"I did not hack anything," Vahn said. His voice echoed with cold authority.

"I simply provided a bridge between the system needs and your surplus. You bought an item that requires a massive amount of maintenance energy." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Since you lack the mana to sustain it, the system is taking its payment in credits. When those run out, it will take your levels."

The lobby immediately became a scene of absolute chaos.

The other guild leaders backed away from the Syndicate members as if they were infected with a deadly plague.

On the holographic screens, the Syndicate guild ranking began to plummet. Level 40. Level 35. Level 20.

"You are killing us!" Valerius shrieked. He fell to his knees as the Data Bleed began to show.

His skin started to flicker with green static. His Platinum tier armor turned into rusted iron.

"I am devaluing you," Vahn corrected calmly. "You base your worth on numbers. I am showing the world how fragile those numbers are."

Sia and Aria stood behind Vahn, watching the downfall of their former oppressors. Sia smiled with grim satisfaction.

Aria realized that Vahn was more than just a powerful player. He operated on a completely different logic.

"We need to go," Vahn said, turning back to his team. "The Syndicate is bankrupted, but the Alpha will be coming for his revenge soon."

"Where are we going?" Hana asked.

"To the Slime Fields," Vahn said. "It is time to crash the market completely. I want the Syndicate reduced to nothing."

As they exited the Golden Scale, the sounds of screaming were drowned out. Vahn did not look back.
