Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 81: Zold’s Decision
May 9, 2025.
A day passed.
The 13th Demon Hunter Squad returned to the headquarters in the morning, driving throughout the entire night.
Their safe return didn’t cause any noise. Aside from the Chairman, no one knew where they went and what they had done.
But upon arriving at Hyotekye, they immediately realized that something was wrong.
While they were clearing Tsumogui yesterday, the bubble that was the Second Era Ending Calamity finally popped, chaos and panic spreading across Nihono!
Countless headlines appeared on the internet.
[The Sky Falls! The Strongest of Nihono, Master Kimoto Officially Confirmed Missing!]
[Rogue Awakeners In The Wanted List Resurfaces! The Darkness In Nihono Stirs!]
[Ordinary Objects Possessed by Demonic Artifacts! Countless Families Massacred! Even Daily Items Could Be Monsters In Disguise?!]
The 13th Demon Hunter Squad suddenly stopped.
Even though they cleared a ghost town, nothing had changed.
In fact, the situation deteriorated even further.
Their actions felt meaningless in front of the greater chaos that was the Second Era Ending Calamity.
Shinjuku, Demon Hunter Association Headquarters.
In the Chairman’s office, Nagito leaned against the swivel chair, his expression solemn as he swept his gaze to the members of the 13th Demon Hunter squad.
The members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad wore somber expressions, their eyes heavily cast downwards.
They didn’t show the face of someone who achieved an impossible mission at all.
Nagito inwardly sighed, extremely tired.
’... As expected, he’s not here.’
The person he wanted to see the most amidst all the chaos, the One Without Equal, wasn’t present.
Except for Namita, who always seemed expressionless, the remaining members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad wore heavy expressions, their eyes weary.
Nagito took a slow sip of his coffee, then asked quietly.
"Where’s Captain Starks?"
As if touching a sore spot, most of the members’ expressions changed, but Namit quickly answered in everyone’s stead.
"Chairman, Captain told us to relay to you that he had something important to do. He said he apologized for not being able to respond to your call."
"... I see."
Namita fell silent before nodding calmly, as though he didn’t mind.
"Well, no matter," He put down his coffee, smiling slightly. "What’s with your worried and anxious expressions? I expected the heroes of the nation to be happier. After all, you all managed to clear a Ghost Town!"
Akihito and the rest forced an awkward smile, but the worried expressions on their faces didn’t disappear.
Nagito’s brows furrowed slightly, confused.
He thought it was because of the recent news, but was it deeper than that...
"What’s the matter?"
He asked, his voice was solemn.
The members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad exchanged glances. Namita decided to take a step aside. Akihito stepped forward, asking the question that was in everyone’s mind.
"Captain Zold... told us that our squad is disbanding, is that true?"
His voice was shaky, as if he couldn’t believe it himself.
Even during the ride on the way home, they felt something was wrong.
But when they arrived at the headquarters, Zold’s expression was much colder than usual. He immediately dismissed everyone and didn’t bother to come with them to the Chairman’s office.
However, before he left, he said something that left them stunned:
"Our squad is disbanding soon. Tell Nagito to transfer all of you to another squad."
Maybe a few days ago, it would’ve just left them with an empty feeling, but after their experiences in Tsumogui...
Everyone shifted uncomfortably.
’... It feels like a betrayal.’
Nagito’s pupils dilated, his mouth opening slightly. But just when Akihito and the rest were expecting a decisive answer, his mouth closed, falling silent.
"..."
Akihito and the others’ expressions turned bitter.
They had always been suspicious of their captain’s and the chairman’s connection, but if even the chairman couldn’t answer for certain, clearly their captain’s identity wasn’t as simple as a foreigner from Lunaria.
At the very least, their Captain wasn’t someone that Chairman Nagito could control.
"... Captain Starks said that?"
Nagito raised his eyes, pursing his lips in dissatisfaction.
"Don’t worry about this for now, I’ll talk to him."
Everyone sighed tiredly, not saying anything.
They knew their Captain quite well despite having little interaction with him outside their missions.
Especially Namita, who had met him in Lunaria.
Could Zold really be convinced to change his mind when he decided on something?
’Impossible.’
Namita quickly rejected that thought. Back at their first meeting, he had already sensed they were similar people.
If he knew anything about himself, he was decisive and stubborn.
Zold was no different. Even worse.
But unworried, Nagito changed the topic calmly.
"Let’s talk about something else," He shook his head slightly. "It’s not a good look if you guys look so depressed after entering the Chairman’s office. If the media catches a photo of you guys, the DHA would be doomed."
Everyone didn’t know if he was joking or not, but nobody laughed, simply sighing inwardly.
Regardless, Nagito continued.
"I called you here to thank you on behalf of the nation. Your contribution in clearing a Ghost Town has saved countless lives, even if no one knew. I’m sure it was difficult and grueling for the rest of you, so each of you will be rewarded heavily."
Everyone nodded slightly, already expecting it.
"Do you have any particular requests?"
Nagito briefly scanned everyone in the room.
Everyone exchanged glances.
At this moment, the silent Ayase suddenly spoke.
"... Chairman."
Nagito glanced at her, his eyes widening slightly.
"Don’t let our squad be disbanded. Please."
Ayase bowed slightly.
Her voice was soft, and her commanding tone was gone, replaced by a muted tone that made her words appear like a childish request.
But hearing that, no one in the room said anything. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Nagito’s gaze lingered on Ayase quietly.
After a brief pause, he nodded slightly.
"... I’ll do my best."
"..."
Ayase forced a smile, walking towards Akihito’s back.
After her, no one had any particular requests, so Nagito promptly dismissed them.
"Once again, the nation is deeply grateful to your contributions. Besides each of your monetary rewards, your squad will be exempt from taking missions for the time being."
"Rest well, I’ll call your Captain to have a talk with him."
But before everyone left, Nagito suddenly recalled a matter.
"Oh, wait. Akihito, please stay. I need to talk to you about something."
Akihito was confused, but since it was the chairman’s request, he naturally couldn’t reject it.
He glanced at his squadmates and waved his hands.
"Please go on ahead of me, guys."
Everyone nodded, though Ayase had a slightly worried expression.
Soon, they left.
Akihito and Nagito were left in the room alone.
Just as Akihito was about to ask what was wrong, Nagito broke the silence.
But his next words caused Akihito’s heart to skip a beat.
"Akihito, we found a cure for your sister."
Akihito was in disbelief, his hand shaking slightly. He looked at Nagito, trying his best to keep his composure.
But even then, he couldn’t stop himself from asking, his voice showing cracks.
"... Really?"
"Yes."
Nagito nodded with a smile.
He quickly added.
"This hasn’t been revealed to the public yet, but Olympira succeeded in making a cure for cancer, even for terminal cases. I’ll be sending Shiho to Olympira soon to obtain a few samples, and with your contribution in clearing Tsumogui, you don’t have to worry about waiting in line."
Akihito’s eyes widened in disbelief, the sadness and tension from earlier vanishing immediately.
Nagito smiled slightly.
Unable to keep himself calm, Akihito bit his lips forcefully, his entire body shaking.
He gave a deep bow, his head almost touching the ground as he shouted.
"Thank... thank you, Chairman!"
Nagito shook his head.
"You deserve it, boy. If you need any advice, you can just go to my officer and look for me.
Hearing that, Akihito was startled, but before he could ask the reason, Nagito dismissed him.
"Alright, you may dismiss yourself. I’ll just call you when the time to send your sister arrives."
Hearing that, Akihito restrained his excitement, nodding repeatedly.
"Understood, Chairman!"
"Yes."
Nagito nodded slightly.
Then Akihito turned around, leaving the room.
But as soon as he stepped outside, he saw that all of the members of the squad were waiting for him.
Beside them, another squad was waiting.
Akihito’s eyes flickered in surprise, narrowing slightly.
It was a man with curly white hair and two pairs of pale white eyes, giving off an otherworldly feeling.
It was the Captain of the 1st Demon Hunter Squad, Captain Arima.
From the office, Chairman Nagito’s voice came out.
"1st Demon Hunter Squad, come in."
Arima glanced at Akihito, who was at the door, then nodded slightly.
Once Arima entered, he closed the door, leaving the 13th Demon Hunter Squad alone.
Namita frowned, recalling when their eyes met.
But then Akihito suddenly asked them.
"What are you guys still doing here? Were you waiting for me?"
Namita snapped out of his daze, looking at him, then turned to Seiji.
"Seiji said he wanted to bring you two along."
Akihito and Ayase widened their eyes slightly, turning their gazes to Seiji.
Seiji shrugged, seemingly done with Namita.
"I was just thinking of going out together since we just finished a difficult mission."
Of course, he didn’t say his true reason.
This might be their last gathering if what Zold said was true.
They needed to make it worth it at least.
Sensing his thoughts, everyone exchanged glances, agreeing.
"Sure!"
