Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 141 - Transformation
Three more days had passed.
Yang Yi activated the watchtower to scan the surroundings, but once again came up empty, there were no islands within a 1,500-nautical-mile radius.
But he was no longer in a rush to find an island to chop wood and make money, because the price of lumber had already dropped to 4 Shell Coins per unit.
That afternoon, the Brotherhood of Steel also left the Extreme Winter Sea. In the chat channel, they were aggressively buying up steel and sulphur, probably preparing for the level-four upgrade of the Steel Ambition.
Yang Yi glanced at the number of players still stuck in the Extreme Winter Sea, it had sharply declined to just over a hundred thousand.
If it followed the same pattern as the Storm Sea, then the Extreme Winter Sea was likely about to start "kicking people out" as well.
If the remaining players didn’t leave soon, they’d probably end up like those who’d been stranded in the Storm Sea, facing all sorts of deadly dangers, even death.
Back then, if Yang Yi hadn’t happened to enter the buffer zone just in time, he likely would’ve died in the Storm Sea too.
He finished his workout, put down the Ironbreaker (Imitation), and checked his attribute experience. All attributes had improved, especially Strength and Constitution. His Strength had reached 1,932, and Constitution experience had hit 2,849.
Spending long hours training like this yielded a decent rate of experience gain. He had done little besides fishing and training.
His fishing haul had been excellent. The few plump fish he caught were sent to the witch’s lab, and the rest were either eaten or made into dried fish.
“It’s time to do some shopping,” Yang Yi concluded.
Most players had left the Extreme Winter Sea, and market prices had stabilised, especially for food, which had become very cheap due to the extremely high fish catch rate in this sea region.
It wasn't obvious with just one person, but when every player was hauling in that much, it became an overwhelming supply, naturally crashing food prices, especially for meat. After all, most of the sausages players had were made from fish meat.
As for black bread, its main ingredient came from a type of seaweed found in the ocean and could be collected with fishing nets.
Yang Yi checked the chat channel. Some players reported that seaweed had also become more plentiful, which drove the price of black bread down too. He wasn’t sure exactly which type it was, as he had never caught any edible ones himself.
【Name: Delicious and Juicy Seaweed】
【Description: A tasty seaweed that’s delicious no matter how you eat it, rich in juice, sweet and savoury.】
Yang Yi reeled in his net and discovered it was full of large clumps of plump, juicy plants. They looked like succulents but were actually seaweed. A bunch of fish, shrimp, and crabs were clinging to it and munching on it.The cross-sections of the seaweed were leaking white juice that looked like milk.
Yang Yi bundled up the seaweed into a ball, planning to send it to the witch’s lab.
The rest of the seafood, which had no edible value, he tossed into the fire.
Inside the lab, Suna was still feeding the long-legged sardines. The food had changed from delicious mushrooms to delicious fish meat, and it would soon become delicious seaweed.
Their appetite had grown significantly, and their appearance had changed drastically. They had become “Delicious Long-Legged Sardines”, noticeably plumper. The once finger-thin, streamlined bodies had tripled in thickness, though their length remained unchanged, making them look like chubby sausages.
Even their four legs had become round and stubby, not “long-legged” anymore. As they swam, the fat on their bodies jiggled continuously. Their fish scales had all fallen off, leaving their bodies smooth and tender.
According to Suna, the three long-legged sardines were undergoing a transformation and becoming tastier and easier to eat.
She was closely observing and documenting the changes, categorizing the transformation into three stages:
Stage One – Addiction Phase.
When they first tasted the delicious food and became captivated by it. They lost interest in anything else, only wanting to eat delicious food. At this stage, their body didn’t change much, but they gained many benefits, such as faster recovery from injuries, increased vitality, and improved constitution.
It was probably due to the food being both tasty and nutritious. The sardines’ rapid healing after the first night showed that clearly. They fully recovered by the next day and hadn’t been injured since. That was partly thanks to the cushioning effect and partly due to improved physical condition.
They also never seemed to tire or rest, constantly full of energy, always trying to reach the delicious mushrooms Suna had deliberately placed just beyond the glass. Of course, the mushrooms were long gone, with fish meat taking their place.
These foods didn’t even need preservatives — it seemed they tasted even better when rotten.
After consuming a large amount of tasty food, the sardines entered the second stage:
Stage Two – Fattening Phase.
Their bodies swelled up like balloons. Probably because the food was too rich, and their bodies couldn’t metabolise it fast enough, the sardines stored the nutrients as fat.
Yet, they showed no signs of metabolic issues, remaining energetic and physically stronger despite the weight gain.
Once they reached a certain level of fatness, they moved onto the third stage:
Stage Three – Assimilation Phase.
They began to resemble the delicious foods they had eaten, becoming delicious themselves.
The three sardines were at that stage. Their scales had all fallen off, and they exuded a mouthwatering aroma.
Suna planned to dissect one of them tonight to see what had changed.
Fortunately, they were sardines, even if they had become stronger, there was a limit to it. But whether there was a fourth stage, no one could say.
Yang Yi handed the delicious seaweed to Suna and watched as she used her witch’s dagger to pierce one of the delicious long-legged sardines and scoop it out.
Even if the other sardines wanted to attack, they couldn’t do much damage, their bites couldn’t penetrate the gloves Suna was wearing. The ones that leapt out were promptly slammed unconscious and tossed back.
After that, Suna began the dissection. Yang Yi didn’t continue watching; he turned and left the laboratory.
He was planning to head to the Bountiful Sea to gather some intel. If the delicious creatures had come from the Bountiful Sea, then the surrounding waters would be showing some unusual signs. In any case, he could retreat back to the safe sea zone, so the risk was manageable.
The sooner he got intel, the sooner he could prepare. With his plan set, Yang Yi began purchasing supplies.
First, he bought all the base materials needed for upgrading his ship to level 4. In total, he acquired:
Except for the wood, which he bought at 4 Shell Coins per unit, the rest were at standard market prices. The total cost nearly filled up his warehouse capacity.
He also bought a bit extra of each material, just in case anything got consumed along the way.
The only remaining requirement was the endlessly regenerating flesh.
Yang Yi had already commissioned Song Yingwen to help gather intel on that and had also informed him of his plan to visit the Bountiful Sea. In return, he offered to provide exclusive intel about that region.
Song Yingwen agreed gladly.
Afterwards, Yang Yi bought 200 vitality coconuts from Shen Guanquan, at 300 Shell Coins each, spending a total of 60,000.
They had just ripened. The market price was 500 per coconut, much more expensive than ordinary fruits, but since they could boost energy recovery, plenty of players were still willing to buy them.
Lastly, he purchased 5kg of salt, ten packs costing 5,000 Shell Coins.
At that point, Yang Yi had 1,597,500 Shell Coins remaining in his account.
