Chapter 8: Formal Worries, MythosNet Conundrum

Hart Corp — 50th Floor, Event Hall

The grand hall was a hive of activity.

There were sounds of power drills, hammering, and hurried footsteps as workers bustled about.

They were erecting a massive stage.

The upcoming event was no ordinary product launch — it was a defining moment for Hart Corp, an unveiling of cutting-edge technology that would solidify its dominance in the industry.

Amidst the commotion, a man walked with measured steps as his edged eyes swept across the hall with the scrutiny of a king inspecting his kingdom. Julian Blackwell — one of the company's directors, and more importantly, the uncle of James and Gabriel.

Trailing behind him was his ever-diligent assistant, Oscar, a bespectacled man with slicked-back hair and an almost irritating eagerness to please. He adjusted his glasses with a smug smile and leaned in slightly as he spoke—

"Sir, we've had eyes on the Kang Manor for a while now, and there's been no sign of James. I'm quite certain the bastard is still too ashamed to step out of his shell. The media would devour him the second he did."

Oscar grinned, clearly enjoying his report.

But Julian? He remained unfazed.

"Shame? James?"

Julian scoffed.

"That rotten brat isn't the type to cower because of some bad press."

He yawned lazily, stretching his arms as if this entire situation bored him.

"If he's quiet... it's because he's scheming. Keep watching him. Don't relent."

Oscar straightened and nodded briskly.

"Understood, sir."

As they approached the center of the hall, their eyes landed on the grand stage—the very spot where, just days from now, Julian himself would stand. The assistant practically vibrated with excitement, adjusting his tie like he was the one about to take the stage.

"Soon enough, sir, you'll be standing right where the Chairman used to."

Julian's lips stretched into a slow, wicked grin.

Hart Corp — Chairman's Office

The room screamed old money.

Ornate furniture, deep mahogany walls, and a massive television screen mounted across the office.

Chairman Samuel Hart, a powerful man in his twilight years, sat in his luxurious chair, tapping his fingers rhythmically against the armrest. His wrinkled face was an iron mask that showed nothing, but the slow, deliberate tap of his fingers told another story.

Rage.

The news broadcast played in front of him.

It replayed the now-viral footage of James Kang standing over a poor, defenseless woman. The words from the reporters carried condemnation as each sentence further vilified his grandson.

Across the room, seated on an elegant sofa, Judith Hart — James and Gabriel's mother, and the formidable CEO of Hart Global Corporation — sipped a glass of wine, though her grip on it was tense.

Standing to the side, stiff as ever, was Alfred.

Also present were Julian Blackwell and a young red-haired woman — Leah Blackwell, Julian's daughter.

She was a beautiful young lady with long, wavy hair.

Dressed in formal office attire, her outfit highlighted her curves — though she wasn't as voluptuous as some of the other women in the company, she was still developing.

One look at her face made it clear she was a proud and self-entitled brat.

But at this moment, even she had nothing to say.

The moment the report ended, Julian quickly took his opportunity, bowing his head so low his designer shoes entered his line of sight.

"Chairman Hart, I take full responsibility. I was so foolishly preoccupied preparing for the presentation that I failed to keep an eye on my unruly nephew. I should have done better."

His had that well-rehearsed regret.

But Alfred wasn't fooled.

Neither was Leah, who just rolled her eyes dramatically beside him.

"How could James do something like this?!"

Judith suddenly slammed her fist on her lap.

"Does he want to destroy this company?! This is exactly why I warned you, Father! Golden Partner should have never been allowed to have an executive director on the board, especially not someone as reckless as James!"

The Chairman remained silent.

Always the loyal shadow, Alfred finally spoke.

"Master James had his reasons, and let's not act like the media didn't exaggerate."

He cleared his throat briefly.

"He never laid a hand on that woman."

The Chairman turned his eyes to Alfred — stern, wrinkled, and unimpressed.

"So it's fine because he had his reasons?"

His voice was low and gravelly.

"Or because the media made him look slightly worse than he already is?"

Alfred hesitated.

"Sir, Master James claims the woman stole some—"

"So that justifies attacking someone?"

The Chairman's voice grew colder.

"Sir, Master James didn't—"

"Shut up."

Alfred immediately pressed his lips together and obediently stood down.

Sensing the tension, Julian smoothly inserted himself back into the conversation.

"Perhaps it's the pressure of the upcoming presentation."

He sighed deeply.

"James has always been too proud to admit when he's struggling. This must have been his way of lashing out. If I had paid more attention, I could have guided him better."

Arms crossed, Leah flicked her red hair back with a scoff.

"Oh please."

She narrowed her eyes at her father.

"Sure, it's your fault, but let's not act like my handsome, all-knowing James would be afraid of some little corporate presentation. He's been doing international presentations for Golden Group for years, and he's done them perfectly. Unlike you clowns, James knows what he's doing."

Her sharp tongue was a thing of legend.

Judith's frown deepened.

"Leah, watch your tongue! That's your cousin, and you will not speak of him in such a way."

"Pfft."

Leah smirked, flicking her hand dismissively.

"Oh, please. Father's apology seems like total BS. If he wants to be so dramatic then maybe his old ass should go star in some dumb soap opera... maybe he'll be useful there."

A proud smile appeared on her face.

"Unlike my handsome, loveable cousin, James! I'm a hundred percent sure he's planning something big, and when he returns, he'll shut all of you up."

Judith clicked her tongue, giving Leah a pointed look.

"You claim to be his soulmate, yet he hasn't answered a single one of your calls. Don't you feel stupid yet?"

Leah's confident smirk didn't falter.

"Tch. He's just playing hard to get. Unlike you boring old people, I actually have faith in him. And when he comes back, he's going to be even hotter. Just because James isn't picking up my calls right now doesn't mean he doesn't love me. He's probably just... busy. Yeah."

Julian groaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I swear, I spoiled you too much."

Leah pouted, puffing her cheeks in defiance.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever, old man."

Clearly growing tired of the family drama, the Chairman finally spoke.

"Alfred."

The butler straightened instantly. "Sir."

"Get James back here before the presentation."

His voice was final, absolute.

"If he doesn't show, someone more capable — like Julian — will take his place. And not only that... I'll also apologize to the board for pushing the idea that James would make a good executive director for the company."

Alfred stiffened. That was a clear warning.

"Understood, sir."

With that, the meeting was over. One by one, they bowed their heads and exited the office, leaving the Chairman alone in his silent, heavy thoughts.

He was angry, but at the same time... worried.

『James... don't you want to fight for your inheritance?』

The old man sighed.

Kang Manor — James' Chambers

All this while, what was the man in question doing?

James sat in his chair, slouched, arms crossed, staring at his monitor with an expression that teetered between boredom and mild disbelief.

The chat was active as usual, filled with people rambling about their so-called "epic adventures" — clearing dungeons, slaying dragons, and battling demons like it was just another Tuesday.

It was almost impressive how committed these people were to their roleplaying. Almost.

He yawned, stretching his arms behind his head.

"Been lurking in this group for a few days now, and honestly... it's just a bunch of weirdos LARPing as gods and divine heroes from different mythologies..."

He muttered to himself as he watched the messages flood the chat.

He clicked through the profiles of the most active members and shook his head at their ridiculous names.

Prince Arthur—some clumsy admin who wouldn't shut up about his fiancée, Guinevere.

Loki—a pervert, professional scammer and catfish who hopped from group to group, probably running a dozen fake identities at once.

Zeus and Thor—moderately active and frustratingly delusional considering they claimed to be managing Olympus and Asgard like it was their nine-to-five job.

James smirked. "Bro, what even is this group?"

Then there was Amaterasu—a full-time gamer whose two brothers, Tsukuyomi and Susanoo, hovered around her like overprotective bodyguards. Apparently, they hated Zeus and some weird chick named Artoria, who had once tried to invite Amaterasu to an all-girls chat group.

And speaking of that—James had read some chats about the mythical all-girls chat. None of the male members had ever seen it, but rumors said they spent most of their time gossiping about which divine being was the hottest and who gave off the most big divine energy.

In milder terms, big dick energy.

"Unbelievable..." James muttered, rubbing his face.

But if there was one person who baffled him the most, it was Merlin. The woman had the entire group wrapped around her finger. Whenever she logged in, a swarm of guys would flood her with attention, flirting, simping, and — get this — sending her these expensive things called Ambrosia Coins like it was tribute to some online goddess.

And the worst part? She accepted it all.

James clicked open her profile.

"Four billion followers? Yeah, right..."

He narrowed his eyes at Merlin's profile picture.

Tight purple dress, long flowing hair, a smug, knowing smile — she knew exactly what she was doing.

He scoffed.

"Tch... the gold-digger energy is so strong I can smell it through my screen."

And yet...

He swallowed.

『She's kinda hot... I actually wanna...』

His fingers instinctively twitched toward his crotch before he suddenly froze.

Oh. Right.

His face darkened. Yeah, about that.

James exhaled sharply and leaned back, staring blankly at the ceiling. He wasn't entirely sure how it happened — or why — but his junk had just... disappeared.

Not injured. Not shrunk. Gone.

And the weirdest part? He wasn't freaking out about it.

"Maybe they're the reason it happened..."

His eyes flickered back to the screen.

"Maybe these freaks used some kind of sp—achk! No, no, no, stop. You're feeding into their delusions."

He slapped his forehead.

This was just some medical thing, right? Something that could be fixed.

Yeah. A doctor could handle it. Probably.

A loud ping! interrupted his thoughts.

James shot upright as his eyes snapped to the screen.

But this time... the notification sound was different.

Not from the main group chat.

He quickly moved his cursor, then navigated the MythosNet interface.

The app was weird — a lot of its features were locked off to him, and he couldn't even find any trace of it on the internet. The only reason he even had it on his computer was because he manually transferred the app from his phone.

And now, a private message had appeared.

From someone named Artoria Pendragon.

James' face immediately soured.

『Oh great... another one of these chuuni freaks.』

He rolled his eyes.

『I'm sure she's broke and just wants to ask for money or some dumb shit like that...』

He clicked the message open.

[Artoria: Hi. I got your username from Merlin. I just wanted to know... are you actually a woman? 🤔]

James blinked.

"Huh?"

Of all the things she could've asked — why the hell was that her first question?
