Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 166: A call home
That night, Audrey quietly left Lake’s room and went downstairs with her mother.
She sat on the floor while her mother sat on the sofa. Her phone was in her lap, but she just stared at it, not knowing who to call first. Would they even answer her call? Given that she’d blocked them for five years now.
She felt Isabella’s hand on her shoulder and sighed.
"Don’t worry, just give them a call, I’m sure they’ll be happy to pick up," Isabella encouraged.
Audrey bit her lips and slowly nodded, "Alright."
She picked up her phone and dialed Miranda’s number.
She thought she would have to calm down about two times before the call got answered but she was surprised when the call got answered on the third ring.
"Hello?" Miranda’s voice spoke from the phone.
Audrey smiled, a tear slipping down her cheek, hearing Miranda’s voice again made her feel very emotional as the memories she had with her came rushing back into her head.
"Hello? Audrey? Child speak to me," Miranda’s voice sounded as if she was holding back her tears.
Audrey sniffed, wiping her tears; Isabella’s hand on her shoulder served as her encouragement, and she took a deep breath and spoke up.
"Hi, Miranda..." She paused.
Miranda could be heard taking a deep, shaky breath, "Hi, baby, I’ve, no...we’ve missed you. Where are you? Are you okay? How’s my sister? Is she okay?" She asked, sounding so curious and concerned.
Audrey chuckled, "Calm down, Miranda, we’re all fine. We’re currently in Paris, and your sister is fine, she’s looking so young and beautiful," She turned to her mother and smiled at her.
"Oh, the spirits listened to my prayers," Miranda replied.
"Oh, we all miss you both, and Green? I know the girl’s hard to be with but I know she’ll be so trustworthy," Miranda spoke.
Isabella laughed softly, "Not at all, sister, Green’s the best company anyone could ask for," She informed.
Miranda laughed excitedly, "Oh, my darling sister, it’s really you. I’m so glad you think that you think that way about Green," she sighed.
"I just wish I could see you guys one last time," Miranda whispered. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Audrey stared at her mother and nodded at her.
Isabella understood her and smiled, "You don’t have to worry, your wish will come true soon," she said.
Miranda gasped, "You’re coming back to the oak?!" She questioned.
Audrey chuckled, "Yes, we are, and we’re coming back with Lake," She smiled.
"Really? Oh my! That’s true; I totally forgot he went to Paris for business. Wait! Audrey, did he recognize you? Are you coming back as mates, should I prepare for a mating ceremony? Oh my God, everyone is going to be so excited; I knew the spirits would take pity on you, my dear child," Miranda sounded very happy and eager to start up her preparation.
Audrey sighed sadly, "Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be any mating ceremony, Miranda, that’s why I called," She started.
"No?" Miranda asked.
"Yes, he doesn’t recognize me; I’m just coming back for business purposes; after a year, I’ll leave. In the meantime, I need you to help me and inform everyone to act as if they don’t know me, acting otherwise would cause Lake to become suspicious, and if he tries to remember me, we both know how it’ll end for him, I wouldn’t want that, just help me out, maybe, a miracle might happen but if it doesn’t happen, I’ll really have to leave after a year, I wouldn’t want to cause him pain," Audrey explained.
Miranda was quiet for a while, "I understand, dear, you don’t have to worry about anything, I’ll take care of it for you," She promised.
Audrey sighed in relief, "And, I have a surprise for you. You’ll love it, I promise."
"You do? I’m already so eager, Audrey, when are you coming back?" Miranda questioned.
"Probably weekend, that’s in three days. I have to get everything in order in my company before leaving," Audrey stood from the floor and cracked her neck.
"Alright, Dear child, The twins and your friends are going to be so happy to hear this news; we’ll be waiting," Miranda responded.
"Thank you very much, Miranda; I have to go now. See you in three days," Audrey smiled at her phone.
"Goodbye, Audrey, safe flight back home with my sister," Miranda replied and ended the call.
Audrey released a long sigh, rubbing her temple.
"You see? It wasn’t that bad, was it?" Isabella asked behind her.
Audrey shook her head, "It wasn’t, but I’m just thinking of how everything is going to be back there, what’s going to happen between us?" She looked up the stairs as she thought of Lake.
Isabella stood and walked over to her, "Don’t worry about the future, live each day as it comes, take it stride by stride, and everything will work out just fine," She said softly.
Audrey slowly nodded, "I hope so, I really hope so, mother," She turned around and hugged her Mother, placing her head on her shoulder.
"I miss him, Mother, I miss him so much, I want my mate back, I want my man, I love him so much," Audrey broke down in her mother’s arms; she couldn’t hold her feelings in anymore.
Seeing the person she loved every day without being able to tell him how she felt was killing her. She didn’t know how she was going to survive the one year back at the Grey Blood Pack; it was going to be torture for her, but she was determined to see it through. Something told her that she be happy in the end.
"Then try telling him," Isabella whispered.
"Huh?" Audrey asked, pulling away from her mother and looking at her with confused eyes.
"I mean, try telling him you love him, it might help," Isabella suggested.
Audrey shook her head, "That would be pushing it, Mother, it’s still a miracle I could get close to him, you’ve already seen what happened when we..." She paused, her cheeks turning red.
Isabella knew what her daughter wanted to say, she gently patted her cheek and smiled at her, "It’s okay, Audrey, one day at a time, okay?"
Audrey nodded, "Goodnight, Mother; I better go back to him," She hugged her Mother one last time before she walked back up to the room Lake was sleeping in.
That night, Audrey lay beside Lake, watching his calm face until sleep overtook her.
She was glad his temperature wasn’t high anymore; it was back to normal; she would have been anxious all night if he was still burning up.

Lake slowly woke up and found himself lying in an unknown room, but he didn’t panic because the familiar sweet and calming lavender and honey scent entered his nose and made him realize that he wasn’t alone on the bed.
He slowly turned his body so he lay on his side and now stared at Audrey.
Memories of what happened last night filled his mind, he couldn’t help but think that the blurry images and faint voices he saw and heard in his head all belonged to Audrey. But he couldn’t prove it, he never saw the face and never made out the face.
But one thing was certain, as he stared at Audrey, that feeling of familiarity he felt when he first saw her was doubled.
He could almost swear that he knew her from another life or something like that. That was why he was never going to stop until she was his, mated and tied to him forever, she just felt right for him.
He’d never wanted anyone the way he wanted the little woman in front of him.
Lake raised his hand to her face, gently touching her cheek; he vividly remembered her worried cry last night when that painful headache attacked him; he knew she cared about him, but he didn’t understand why she was bent on pushing him away.
It didn’t bother him; he loved the chase, and he’d chase her until she gave in; it would be so worth it in the end when she finally realized just how much he was willing to do for her.
It was Audrey or no one, he didn’t know what anyone had to say.
Audrey felt someone’s fingers caressing her cheeks and she could also feel a pair of eyes staring deeply at her. She immediately knew who it was and silently cursed in her head.
She had planned to leave before he woke up, but it turned out she was too tired and slept way longer than she had planned.
"I can hear your quickened pulse, Kitten, open your eyes," He whispered close to her face.
Audrey slowly opened her eyes, knowing she couldn’t pretend with him.
She opened her eyes to see Lake looking down at him with those deep eyes that had her falling deeper in love with him, all she wanted was to put her arms around his neck to hug and kiss him, but she didn’t, she simply gave him a shirt smile and said, "How are you feeling this morning?"
Lake smiled at her, his dimple showing; he moved closer to her and whispered, "I’m fine; waking this way is just my perfect medicine," He hugged her, shocking Audrey.
